Thanks! Some of my reasons:

  • I don't enjoy showering nor taking the time to shower
  • the most important reason for showering, in my opinion, is removing smelly body odor, which I have extremely little of thanks to this diet
  • I heard that showering (especially with soap) can hamper vitamin D absorption from the sun
  • tap water in my area (and vastly through the United States) has unnatural added fluoride and chlorine, which is not good for skin, nor the body's beneficial bacteria
  • 10 minute shower could be equivalent to drinking 2 liters of tap water ( https://chriskresser.com/is-your-daily-shower-making-you-sick/ )
  • showering makes my beard look frizzy, even if I avoid washing it or directly rinsing it

Now that I think of it, let me paste a response I typed two months ago via private message:

I read that skin is our largest organ and quite permeable -- and that we can absorbs chemicals from a shower equivalent to drinking one or more liters of tap water. I researched if people actually reacted to fluoride or chlorine from showers and found a couple examples (usually skin related). I looked up water quality reports for multiple cities around Dallas, and found fluoride & chlorine was a bit high in my area. Read a book about acne and how the author discovered it was caused by excess fluoride. Read that showering might decrease vitamin D3 synthesis from sunlight (seriously not sure about this one). I saw one or two carnivore Youtubers talking about showering less and not having body order (one of them is Asra Conlu).

I was doing everything in my power to reduce potentially toxic exposures. Based on the above, I figured the less showers, the better (and the shorter the better).

No, I never heard Paleomedicina make any recommendations regarding showering.

Totally not difficult at all to adjust to showering less. I never enjoyed showering that much; always just did it out of habit / necessity. There is much more freedom now. If I have a social event on the calendar, it's comforting to know that I can shower if I want, or I can totally be fine without showering. My body odor on the carnivore diet is drastically reduced. After ~5 days I can smell body order if I directly smell my armpits, bit it never smells bad. Sometimes it smells kind of good. Often it has a 'barnyard' smell -- kind of similar to some of the raw cream I've been eating.

Here is the shower filter I'm using. I don't notice any difference using it, but I didn't expect to, considering how often I shower. https://www.amazon.com/Inline-Filter-Shower-Assembly-Sonaki/dp/B06XZKJ9CF

I also posted the below reply on r/rawzerocarb. Oh, and my sister started raving a couple days ago about how much whiter my teeth were looking. I can't believe the results I'm getting by doing the exact opposite of what everyone recommends, LOL!!!

" I'm only about 25% raw right now, but eat pretty clean carnivore with a 3:1 fat:protein ratio. Decided to go a month without any brushing or flossing as an experiment. I'm now at the end of month two. No bad breath (I can't smell any odor nor does anyone else)! No tooth problems! I am going to find a holistic dentist eventually though and get checked out (and maybe remove a root canal). I'm absolutely loving not brushing & flossing and probably won't go back to it unless it's proven necessary.

I noticed maybe a small 50% increase in plaque / teeth 'roughness' after a week or two but it stabilized and didn't get worse. Then a friend told me about a book she read (Vitamin K2 and the Calcium Paradox) and when she supplements with K2+D3 all her plaque comes off. This coincides with the book Cure Tooth Decay as well as Weston A Price's findings. I bought a bunch of Brie and Gouda two days ago for Vitamin K2. It's a bit early to say for sure, but my teeth are feeling pretty smooth right now.

Also completely removed deodorant. Reduced showers to ~2x per week even though I sweat a lot (including 3 hour long workouts + daily sunbathing in Texas sun). I keep showering less and less often, but I just don't smell bad nor does anyone notice. I've basically eliminated my entire morning / evening hygiene routine saving me hours per week! Love it! "

There are two that have helped me. I hear that others are down on this stuff, but it’s helped me ease into eating organ meats and I’ve absolutely noticed improvements that nothing else could give me. Feel free to DM for more info.

1 - Ancestral Supplements. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XP7Z1KN/. They have a variety of offerings (more on their website) and the owners are really active in answering questions, and their answers built my confidence.

2 - Mountain Sticks organ meat sticks. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CQGRMDI/. They make two flavors. One is even AIP approved. Both are Paleo certified. They’re not the most amazing tasting, but they’re ok and I can tolerate them. I have been sort of started to like the cranberry ones.

I’d like to hear if you learn anything further.

I was taking these as I built up my ability to stomach eating actual organ meats, and I think I’m about ready to do so.
