Photolabrat is correct. I just finished a pharm tech course here in California and can tell you they are %100 right. To break it down in simpler terms tho, here you go.

Here in the US you can either get a pharm tech license by state OR just pass the PTCB/PTCE exam which would then allow you to be licensed in ANY state in the US. That's because the PTCB is the preferred test here for technicians. Most employers will hire you with just a state license but they might require you to take it later on. Also, some employers pay you more for being PTCB certified.

As of right now in 2019, you can sign up to take the PTCB without having taken any prior courses. It's a great thing really if you're good at self-teaching. BUT, this will change starting next year and you WILL be required to take an accredited pharm tech course just to take the test. (The PTCB test itself will be undergoing an update next year as well.)

If I were you, I would just say screw it and do everything I can to take it this year. You already do tech work so it shouldn't be too hard to pass. I say this because you never know how long transferring any necessary paperwork might take you know? Also, transferring any type of license here in the US usually requires you to take the exam for said license anyway so might as well get ahead of the game.

This is one of the more popular books ppl here use to study for the exam. I mean srsly, I have this one friend who is a total, total dum dum and all he did was work at a pharmacy and study this book, and he passed. It is the same book I'm using myself to study for the exam and keep the things I learned in class fresh. If you DM me I actually have a PDF copy of this same book that I don't mind sharing. I just can't post the link here for obvious reasons.

Useful links:

https://dopl.utah.gov/pharm/index.html This is the Utah board of pharmacy website which has a contact section where you can probably call them and ask them all sorts of questions. (Every state has its own board here, hope this link helps.)

https://ptcb.org/

https://home.pearsonvue.com/ptcb

Note: You'll have to register at the PTCB website and pay for the exam there ($129). Afterwards, after your payment is approved, you'll get a link in your email to the Pearson Vue website to schedule your exam.

One girl at my store always gets the pharmacists something... a personalized badge holder or a neat pen or something. She's the only one who does, because what also happens is that the pharmacists throw a huge party for us and we all do a white elephant gift exchange but then the pharmacists will also get a personalized gift for someone sometimes, like maybe the lead tech or someone who just got married or something. My point is, mostly the pharmacists give US gifts.

Having said that, here are some ideas!

Chill Pill Bath Bombs

Pens that look like syringes

Highlighters that look like syringes

PharmD Coffee Mug

Funny wine glass

Candles in Beakers

Chill Pill Ice Cube Molds

Anyway... hope you find something cool.

There are plenty of massage therapists who don't make a lot of money either. But at least with massage therapy, there's opportunity for advancement. You can run your own spa one day or work as an independent contractor, going to people's homes to give massages and building up your clientele. You can accumulate more skills, techniques, and experience and eventually, be able to charge more. So long as you have the skills and know how to market yourself (in a rich area preferably). You're directly rewarded for being better at your job. As a Pharmacy Technician, not so much. It is not uncommon to have a few years more experience than a new tech, and still make the same hourly pay as that person.

Culinary Arts is not the worst choice either. I know someone from high school who went to Delaware Tech for Culinary Arts. She worked at a couple of kitchens making under $10/hour as a cook. Eventually, she started her own cooking blog from home. Now she makes well over $100,000 a year! Granted, it took a few years for that to build up. Here's how it works: she lets companies put ads on her site. The more visitors she gets to visit her blog and view the ads, the more money she makes. There's books on how to run a successful cooking blog from home. https://www.amazon.com/Career-Food-Blogging-Blog-Business-ebook/dp/B00KGC30M2/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=cooking+blog&qid=1569263946&sr=8-3

http://www.quicktestprep.com has a pharmacy technician course. I am the instructor. If you feel it is not enough for you, I'll buy some pharmacy tech books on my dime and mail them to you, for free. I guarantee that my course will prepare you for the PTCB exam. I've been doing this for decades and I keep all the information updated.

At midnight tonight, for the next 5 day, the following e-flash card study aid to help you learn drug names is free: https://www.amazon.com/Top-Drugs-Flash-Cards-2017-ebook/dp/B01LZ6TEND/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=top+200+drug+flash+cards

You my borrow books from your library for free to help you prepare for the PTCB exam.

There is also an inexpensive online course you may use:

Yes I bought both they were pretty helpful to get an idea of the test.

And this is the [book] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/1635303796/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_crH0CbD558D4D) but be careful cause that book is only 4 practice tests and answers I thought there was gonna be like reviews and whatnot.

PTCB Exam Simplified, 2nd... https://www.amazon.com/dp/1942682018?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Is the best investment I could have gotten for studying for the test. It’s a little expensive I got mine used. I highly recommend this book. The book has sections on everything that will be on the test, retail and hospital. I was nervous about the test because it had sterile compounding on it and working in a retail pharmacy I haven’t learned much about that but the book has everything you need to know about it as well as other things in it.

I ordered this book for about $12 and that is all I used to self study. It took me about 6 months and passed the first time.
