The controller needs an active charging cable that also sends the data signal. So many phone chargers will work, but not all of them. Apple specifically likes to use non-standard chargers which will only work with their own devices.
You can also charge any PlayStation 3 or 4 controller by plugging it into a computer USB port.
Another way to charge the controller is by using its dedicated charging port. I use a dedicated charging stand/cradle like this one: charging cradle
Do look around before you buy, there are many variants and price differences.
I had this problem as well. I replaced the battery but that didn’t make a difference. So I bought This Charger that uses the port on the bottom. Works AWESOME and can do two at a time, and you don’t even need have it plugged in by your console.
Is it one of those cheapie extention cords, the ones that are generally a fire hazard? Like this?
If it is, those things are usually not enough to transfer the amount of power needed for the PS3. Maybe a surge protector with a very long cord will do better, like this.
If its an industrial-type extension cord, like one of the orange ones you would use for outdoor equipment, that may not be the best idea, either.
Electronics are confusing.
After a while, the R2 and L2 buttons start messing up and you need to press them harder. Back when I played gran turismo a lot, I realized I had to smash the buttons in to reach full speed. First, I'd take the controller apart and see about cleaning it, if you'd rather go the easier route, buying a trigger bumper works. You don't have to open up the controller. Just stick it on the button and it takes less effort to push it down.. Here's a link to the one I bought http://www.amazon.com/Triggers-DUAL-SHOCK-Controllers-Playstation-3/dp/B00AKXTBMK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1464939752&sr=8-2&keywords=Ps3+controller+trigger
You might need to get an adaptor and just plug it into the scart port
Something like this will work
I have a Turlte Beach Earforce P11 I use, tho for it to work on both you need an adapter. They make one called the DAC1 ( digital to analog converter ). I have big ears and I can use them for about an hour before I have to take a rest from them.
Though the link I provided for the P11 doesn't offer any new, the adapter is designed to work with various models of headsets. Not the best option maybe, but it will work for both consoles.
