If your friend has a kindle, smartphone or tablet, then a nice little extra would be a good phrasebook. The one that I have is perfect and it's just a few euros - this one. It's definitely a perfect book to start with, to learn pronunciation, shopping vocab, directions etc.

Or, to get more in depth with the language... this book goes into detail about the grammar of the language.

If you're looking for Czech authors in English translation, sadly anglophone publishers aren't too interested in the period after the revolution, so there isn't much to choose from. Jáchym Topol, one of the most famous contemporary Czech authors, is an exception. He writes a lot about post-89 Prague, although mostly about the early 90s and the changes that came with the revolution. If that sounds interesting, check out City, Sister, Silver or A Trip to the Train Station, you can read an excerpt in English here. Unfortunately his novel Anděl, which focusses on the Anděl district in Prague, hasn't yet been fully translated into English but there is an excerpt.

Other books that might be interesting, are Time Is a Mid-Night Scream (poetry) or Prague, I see a city…, although they might require a slightly more in-depth understanding of Prague to appreciate them.

Of Kids and Parents also comes to mind, it takes place in post-89 Prague, but a lot of the dialogue is about the past.

If it’s beers you’re after (and not just ticking off pubs) then just go to Zly Casy, try a few beers and eat, then get the tram up the hill and go to Kulovy Blesk. If you’re not satiated by that lot you’ll need to walk up the hill (or get a tram one stop) to Prague Beer Museum. Right here in these three pubs you’ve got at least 30 distinct beers in many different varieties.

If it’s pubs you want to tick off then this book is very helpful, albeit a little out of date.

Hi. Amazon should deliver to Czechia. It's usually very cheap and fast delivery as they have very big warehouse near Prague.
I usually prefer German Amazon (you can switch to other languages). This book can be pre-ordered there.
https://www.amazon.de/gp/aw/d/0751572543/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1522093640&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=The+World%27s+Fittest+Book&dpPl=1&dpID=516Z%2BAH%2B3UL&

You can even go to http://Amazon.cz (it will redirect you to German Amazon in czech)

Mall.cz or Alza.cz are our shitty versions of Amazon.
Aukro.cz is our shitty version of eBay.

Both Amazon and Ebay works in CZ very well. no real reason to use our shitty versions (only if you insist in Czech specific 2 years warranty)

For example, couple monthes ago we buy this robotic cleaner from Amazon.de for 449 EUR and free shipping which was something like 12200 CZK with EUR/CZK exchange rate back then. exact same thing here for at least 16000
