The Hyperkin GN6 on Amazon is super cheap and I've heard it's very comparable to the original 6-button. My personal favorite is the SG-18 a.k.a. the Series III by Honey Bee, I have the Competition Pro branded version. It's an awesome controller, best d-pad I've ever used on a third-party controller, love the larger form-factor (similar in size to the original 3-button controller), and I just think it looks pretty cool. I like it so much I ended up getting their SF-3 SNES controller.

Before everyone points you to ebay please read up on http://www.retrorgb.com, it has a slew of great info. I purchase all my cables through http://www.retrogamingcables.com, make sure you choose the model 2 genesis to rgb scart cable with c-sync on the cable. Its a free option when you go to purchase the cable. This is the converter I use, http://www.amazon.com/SPECIALTY-AV-SCART-Component-Converter-Genesis/dp/B004XSSDPO . Like many have said on the reviews I had to pop the lid off and adjust the color with the caps. Mine came with to much green, its as simple as find a small screw driver and turning until you get the desired picture.

The incomplete, ever expanding Genesis startup guide:

First, determine if you've got a Genesis, Genesis 2, or Genesis 3. For a Genesis 1, the instructions are a little different. For the 2 and 3, they're the same. Here we go.

For the Genesis 1, you want to buy two cables. This cable gives you your video. This cable gives you stereo audio from the Genesis headset jack.

For the Genesis 2/3, Stereo sound is built into the AV hookup, so you only need this one cable. This is not the same cable you'd buy for the Genesis 1. The hookup is completely different.

Make sure, whatever you do, that you avoid an RF adapter. They'll put your games on the screen, but the quality isn't nearly as nice.

Now for games. Here's a random sampling of few favorites for you: Aladdin, Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle, Ecco the Dolphin, The Lion King, Mortal Kombat II Phantasy Star IV, Phelios, Ristar, Rocket Knight Adventures, and X-Men.

As for the controller, you can find one on Amazon just as easily as the cables.

What model is your Sega Genesis I have a Samsung flat screen TV from around 2005 - 2007 and it works amazing on it. Look up stuff like this https://www.amazon.ca/Sega-Genesis-Standard-Cable-Packaging/dp/B002FY0CM0 because I had to ditch the old wires and buy these new ones that work perfectly on my TV. Just make sure you have the correct model!

The guys who make the HD Retrovision cables did some testing on some inexpensive UL rated power supplies and suggested this one from Amazon, which you can add adapters to to use with tons of different consoles.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001BRKFII

I have it and it works great with my Genesis and Super Famicom. They list the adapters you need here:

http://www.hdretrovision.com/vote3rdparty

Everything I needed was less than $20 and it seems like a very reliable power supply.

You megadrive output's stereo, but just from the headphone jack in the front. The A/V plug only outputs mono.

If you want stereo you need to get something like this. Plug one end into the headphone jack on the megadrive and set the volume slider to a about at the middle (any farther any the sound will start to hiss a little bit).

Then just plug the white and red ends into your TV or sound system.

You can also get SCART cables specially made to plug into the model 1 headphone jack to get stereo.

The first option with the cheap cable from amazon is probably the better option though.

Better solution- pick up some inexpensive composite cables. You'll get much better video and sound quality, believe me.

Here's some generic ones for the Model 2 Genesis, for example.

Okay great. So go to Amazon and type in Sega Genesis Model 2 AV cable and buy one of those.

If you don't want to choose one. Here is the one I would choose.

You can order $20 retrobit USB controllers on Amazon. They come in a box closely modeled after the original 6-button box, which is nice.

I haven't used the 3-button pads with my Genesis Mini; I went straight to the 6-button retrobit.

An OSSC and a decent SCART cable together aren't much more expensive than a RetroTINK-2X, an HD Retrovision cable, and a model 1 adapter. The nice thing about the RT2X is that you can use it with composite video or S-Video for consoles that don't support RGB, but otherwise the OSSC is better.

I think this is exactly what you're looking for! Great read.

There is a fairly cheap rgb scart to hdmi converter that works fairly well. I have one, it's not bad for the price. no mods to the Genesis required you just need to get an rgb scart cable. In theory it should be better tha s-video anyway.

All it does is give the items their own buttons. As far as attacks, all you need it 3 buttons. But speaking of controllers. You can get a hyperkin 6 button controller for 9 bucks on amazon and it’s a great controller

As far as I know, most of the sega carts use the same bit as Nintendo. Just look for a Nintendo Bit set. This is what I have. I think the 3.8mm is for the carts and the 4.5 is for the console. The others use a standard Torx bit. I don't remember if its T-8 or T-10. Just a get a set of Torx Bits, maybe even a Security Torx Set. Those are the ones with the pin in the center. But they work on ones that arent security screws.

As a kid I had the Genesis Remote Arcade System. I wonder if I still have it around somewhere...

u/flyinb11 · 2 pointsr/SEGAGENESIS

Haven't installed it yet, but I picked this up.

I had wireless controllers for my genesis in 1992. I was a toddler. Never understood why other consoles didn't do that.

Now you need this for the trifecta(obviously do not pay that amount). There was also a TV series and I am unsure if they put out any dvd's of that series.

u/furatail · 2 pointsr/SEGAGENESIS

If by "box" you mean the "RF switch" then you don't need that for new TVs anyway.
If your TV has composite (yellow rca) input then you can buy one of the following:

Sega-Genesis-Model-1-AV-cable for Genesis 1

Sega-Genesis-model-2-and-3-AV-cable for Genesis 2 and Genesis 3

Though, it's probably gonna look a bit ugly and blurry and the lag could be a bit high without an upscaler like a framemeister.
