I have the Asus Zenscreen portable monitor (MB16AC) and had a ton of trouble getting it to work consistently on my note 9. I believe the lower models of the monitor work but have not tried the newest version. Also, an Amazon reviewer uploaded a video where it launches fine, but if you look closely it is one of the lower models. I think the problem was power related so I was hoping the newest battery powered version of the screen (MB16AP) would work. (After reading some newer reviews, the battery version apparently works fine)

Pretty much Dex would load randomly on my Zenscreen and other times only screen mirroring as it would say it didn't have enough power to power the attached device (monitor). I found a work around to force Dex to launch, but it involved plugging it into a specific hub I had and then replugging it into the monitor. If you want more details check out my post history as it was quite a while ago.

Hope that helps. I'm curious to see if you end up getting a screen and how it works out.

Edit: realized I didn't fully answer your question. You can find a usbc hub with display (HDMI usually) and also offers power delivery (PD) for charging via a usbc input to plug the charging cable into. They also sell just the usbc to HDMI cable, with the PD option as well. I'd suggest a hub as they come in really small sizes now and will give you additional ports. In my story above, when Dex did load properly, if I put it into a wireless charger it would immediately crash and revert to screen mirroring.

Amazon has a ton of hubs and cables like this one: https://www.amazon.com/CHOETECH-Powering-Adapter-Thunderbolt-Compatible/dp/B078M57FVJ

I've read some posts where some of the cheaper hubs doesn't work properly so you might want to check out the reviews or the /Galaxynote9 subreddit for references/links.

My go to keyboard is the LG Rolly Keyboard 2. Its great to travel with and surprisingly comfortable for how portable it is. It can connect to 3 different devices at a time and you can switch between them easily. I want to get a mouse that is more portable, but I take my MX Master everywhere I go. The surface mouse is enticing though...

I would go for a WIMAXIT https://www.amazon.com/WIMAXIT-Portable-Monitor-1920x1080-Built/dp/B07J53B7NS
It works perfectly well and has also tactile screen.

I use this with my DeX station. Neither the Phone or DeX station notice or care about it being there. Still charges and acts like it is not there.

USB C Male to USB C Female...

Or if I misunderstood your request, I highly recommend this especially for the price.

How about considering an USB-C male to USB-C female extender like https://www.amazon.co.uk/TUSITA-Extender-Lifeproof-Otterbox-Extension/dp/B073B1K83D/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=usb-c%2Bto%2Busb-c%2Bextender&qid=1555493290&s=electronics&sr=1-3&th=1 for use with the DeX Pad or DeX docking station?

It works with my Note8 and the DeX docking station allowing me to use the case I want and the Samsung peripherals will give you the required LAN connection.

If you don't want to/can't go the software route, I just use one of these kvm switches to share USB devices. I find it easier to work with than software, one button to switch, no constantly running services in the background.

The link to my dongle is under "Third Party Hub". I am using a USB 3.1 cable, don't know the brand. I've had it for a little while.

I'd try this https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Type-C-Adapter-Charger-Cable/dp/B01GGKYS6E/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=usb+a+to+c+data&qid=1569786694&s=gateway&sr=8-3

I bought this one as i was looking for BT and a rechargeable battery built in.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073FGWJ6P

I have been happy so far. but really have only used it for probably 2 or 3 hours total.

Im using this monitor. And I am also using the original round dex dock.

Interesting idea! I would imagine the Nyrius Aries Pro Wireless HDMI Transmitter might work, but it's a bit expensive to achieve this purpose – even if it did.

I have the same setup except my dongle has an additional USB-C power port so I can charge if necessary, and is HDMI instead of VGA, plus I have a mini retractable HDMI chord.

Does anyone know of a USB-C to USB-C powered hub? Preferably one with USB 3.0, sd-card, etc. But I just want to connect my phone to my USB-C touchscreen monitor and be able to charge my phone. I saw Anker has something exactly like what I'm looking for, but it's PD and doesn't work with Dex

Older logitech bluetooth tablet keyboard.

Form factor is like this but logitech branded.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015LSEUS8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_GIGPDb78MVM23

Don't remember the cost. Came with a cover that flipped around to act as tablet stand.

I've used this keyboard for a couple years and its solid. Be aware that it is small though.

As for mouse, I have an old Samsung S Mouse that they no longer sell.

This works however you won't find a screen that can be powered by the phone itself, simply not enough output from the phone and even if there was, your battery would be dead within 30 minutes.

I don't believe that's included in our plan. Also, I have a VERY limited amount of data a month (5GB) and don't want to load desktop versions of sites. What's even worse is that the tablet really isn't very good and lags a lot in Slides, while in DeX I don't have those issues.

Edit: Just thought I'd include it, I have this Acer Switch Alpha 12 with an i5-6200U
