Dark Souls - You’ve probably heard about this one plenty of times. Fantastic game, brutally challenging. It has one of the most eerie atmospheres I’ve ever experienced in a game. It’s just come to my attention that Amazon will be giving accounts that bought Dark Souls through them a $5 credit towards Dark Souls 2 (post from Tony, Amazon’s gaming rep, here). Some advice if you get this game: 1. Play with a controller. 2. Get DSFix, a fan-made mod that fixes various things about the port like making the game run at true 1080p and unlocking the framerate so you can get 60fps and not 30fps.

Mount & Blade: Warband - I have logged over 160 hours in this hack’n’slash medieval simulator, and that’s just me playing the singleplayer campaign. There are people with thousands of hours played in the game’s multiplayer. Its graphics are not the prettiest, but the game is ridiculously fun. I’ve never seen it go under $5 so if you haven’t played it and you have any interest at all in being a badass sword fighter, leading a mob of knights or vikings or archers around and pillaging or saving villages and sieging/defending castles, becoming a lord or even a king/queen, get this game. Warband also has some awesome mods worth looking into, like a Roman era total conversion if you’re into that.

Metro Last Light - This game is best played after its sequel, Metro 2033 (also on sale, though it was next-to-nothing in price in that one THQ Humble Bundle). It seriously is a great FPS, better (in my sincere opinion, please don’t downvote me) than Bioshock: Infinite by miles and miles. Probably my game of the year. Insanely atmospheric and beautiful. If you enjoyed the Fallout series at all, or post-apocalyptic settings, this game is a super treat. The only drawback is that it doesn’t have much in the way of replay value since one playthrough will be enough for most, but there is a lot of detail crafted into the game’s world that’s worth exploring. On harder difficulties, the game is very tense, with scarce amounts of ammo and very dangerous situations. You can go through most of the game stealthily as well, so you may have one playthrough where you’re Rambo and another where you’re Solid Snake; a choice I always find nice.

Those are my top 3 recommendations, but there are a lot of others (the new Tomb Raider, Bioshock: Infinite for $20 holy cow, Civilization V, et cetera) that are really good games as well. One thing’s for sure: this sale combined with the Greenlight sale and the new Paradox Humble Bundle… I have too many games to play. Too many games.

If it's the Gold edition: Yes.

If it's not the Gold edition, then get it from Amazon instead or wait til the Steam Summer Sale and get it then.

The Gold edition adds all the DLC and the first expansion (the second is not out yet), all of which are high quality and the expansion in particular is very well done. The above link is $20 but is for Gold, plus Civ IV Complete, plus XCOM: Enemy Unknown. If you don't want those other games, like I said, just wait til the summer sale.

However, about your post, one thing does worry me:

>Also, is it a better game to play with friends or against random strangers?

Neither! Civ V is primarily a single player game. You can play it multiplayer, and as of a patch released a few days ago this is a much more pleasant experience, however the primary draw is single player. If you really are set on playing multiplayer (which some people do, and they enjoy it) I'd say play with friends where possible. Games can be very long, and you don't want a stranger flaking on you 2-3 hours into a game.

u/Arkham_Warlock · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

Have you played any of Skyrim's expansions yet? I'd wait for a sale, obviously, but Dragonborn looks bitchin'. I've played all the way through Dawnguard and loved it.

Hm. $15... I just did a haphazard glance at Amazon's selection for that amount. Looks like the GOTY edition of the previous two Batman Arkham games are on sale right now, which might fit the profile of what you've given us. (Digital download, too!) Hope that helps!

u/Ravioli227 · 2 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

I agree with some of the other people. I like buying headphones and adding a mic.
I use this mic and then i have audio technica headphones They might be a tad expensive but I got them for about $100. I would recommend a cheaper headset but i don't have one :/ sorry. I play cs go with my friends all the time and they haven't complained about my mic at all so hopefully that helps you out :)

u/DanyalEscaped · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

If you've got enough money to spend, you could buy it, but there are a lot of sales for the game. Amazon has the game for 5$ right now. The game is often available for something like 12$ or less.

The graphics are amazing and the gameplay is quite fun. Have you played the earlier Hitman games? What kind of games do you like?

http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-B2CCUS/battlefield-2-complete-collection

Did you even look for Battlefield 2? Its on Steam / Origin / Amazon among others.

But anyways, the Project Reality mod for BF2 is really great and still popular.

ARMA 2 / 3 are really fun and popular as well.

Other than that there aren't many other military games worth playing in my opinion.

Personally I would rank them (From best to worst):

  1. ARMA 3
  2. Project Reality
  3. ARMA 2
  4. BF2 Vanilla

The Humble Bundles no longer give you keys. You can either redeem it to your account or make a "gift link" that you give to whoever you want to gift it to. Trading the "spare" games is against the rules of Humble Bundle and the couple places I know of that do trading, like /r/SteamGameSwap. I imagine it's still done, but it's probably pretty risky and their value (especially those in the bottom two tiers) are surely pretty low now.

Also, that Bioshock Infinite for Rust would be a terrible trade for the other person. Why would they trade you a $20 game for one that they could get along with a litany of other games for $20 through the Humble Bundle, buy for $13 on Amazon right now, or wait for a sale on Steam when it drops down to $5 or so.

I would just get the second tier. Spec Ops: The Line, The Darkness II, XCOM Declassified, and Mafia II is a good deal for $8.24. Gift the games you already own.

u/Traawn · 5 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

Dark Souls, most definitely. All of the people I have convinced to purchase the game have clocked in around 90+ hours as well. Really well made game, aside from GFWL, not that it particularly matters in your case considering ping is a problem for you already and Dark Souls PVP is already always laggy (at least in my experience) regardless. It's also on sale on sale for $7.50 due to the huge Amazon sale going on. The DLC is fantastic, as well. Probably the best part of the game, in fact.

u/TheFrag · 2 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

I recommend you to start with this, if you have access to a PS3: Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection

The story is a huge part of MGS and starting with 5 could be quite confusing. I suggest that you play at least MGS3 and Peacewalker first. The events from MGS Ground Zeroes and therefore MGS 5 connect directly to these two games.

If you want to play all games in the chronological order: MGS 3, MGS Peacewalker, MGS Ground Zeroes, MGS 5, Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, MGS, MGS 2, MGS 4 (There are more games in the series, but these are the main ones. Also, I'm not saying, that this is the best way to play the games, but one possible way.)

u/brandonsmule20 · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

Other than FFVII, I don't see anything else from the Square Enix sale that I could personally vouch for.

On the other hand, if you don't already have it, then I'd highly recommend the BioShock Triple Pack for $11.99 at Amazon. A 10/10 deal in my opinion.

Edit: Ah snap! Bethesda sale going on as well! Definitely not the cheapest I've seen them on sale for though.

u/PoombyBear · 3 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

You might like Dawn of Discovery then, I picked it up recently and have been having fun with it.

Unfortunately you can only get a Steam key for the game on Steam, so the one on amazon is just DRM-free.

I think most people will tell you get to Cities, I hear it's a great game, but if you're interested in having trading in your city builder too or you like the older setting Dawn of Discovery might be for you.

u/Efrima · 3 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

Heya!

Yeah, exactly!...That thingy :)

Been working great for us!

What are you using? The wired controllers I assume?

u/Stenchr · 10 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

Welcome to the PC gaming world! I'd check out /r/gamedeals for pc games for sale right now Max Payne 3 is 5.99, I cannot vouch for the game as i've never played it but the reviews seem mostly positive besides the Rockstar Drm.

u/KingHenryVofEngland · 2 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

What's the best way to play MGS 1 in 2014? I don't own an original PlayStation so it's not like I'm about to buy an old copy of that off ebay or something.

I did find this collection though it seems overpriced and isn't sold directly by amazon.

u/Danmolaijn · 5 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

Bioshock Series. Especially the first Bioshock. The story is amazing (currently playing it). And for a game released in 2007, the graphics are... well, it's the freakin' bees knees man. Grab Bioshock 1 & 2 on Amazon for $4.99.

u/EliteAmateur · 3 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

Here are a bunch of games on sale at the moment (assuming you're on PC). Hopefully something sparks your interest.

Shadow Warrior $7.99

Tomb Raider $7.00

BioShock Infinite $7.49

Payday 2 $9.99

u/supergenius99 · 7 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

I don't think so, in July the Metal Gear Solid Legacy collection is going to be released that includes MGS 1,2,3,4, Peace Walker, VR missions, and the original Metal Gear 1 and 2 for $50. You'll get a lot more bang for your buck and can experience the entire story.

u/villanx1 · 10 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

I'm not going to recommend multiplatform games as I'm unsure of whether or not you have a 360/Wii/etc.

  1. Valkyria Chronicles - (Mostly) Turn-based strategy game, with RPG elements. Gets pretty hard (at least for me) decently long.

  2. Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection - Pretty much every canon Metal Gear game. Stealth-Action at it's finest with an insane story and cast of characters. Includes the HD remasters of MGS2 and 3.

  3. Yakuza 4 - RPG/Brawler set in a fictionalized Kabukichō (a well known Red light district in Tokyo). You can spend your time cracking skulls, doing random favors for people, playing mahjong, or chatting it up with a hostess.
u/AndrewBot88 · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

My current setup is a pair of Sony MDR-V6's (a bit out of your price range) plus this. It clips right onto your mic's cord, and I've found it to be pretty good on sensitivity.

u/ArguablyHappy · 2 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

I didn't want it until I found this.

I dont play much FIFA online so its not a huge problem. I just tried and I found a game rather quickly. Most people pirate the game so IDK if they'd be able to play the game online. I'll go look at how many players are online and let you know. Also if you do get it for PC i'll definitely play you.

u/BC_Guy02 · 2 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

I would hold off. I've played all the C&C games to date. Although this deal isnt on Steam, its origin, I would get this: Command and Conquer The Ultimate Collection

It encompasses nearly all of the Command and Conquer games all in one bundle. Although that deal is restricted to the US, I did see it drop 50% (from its regular $19.99) to $9.99. A much better deal considering it's got all the games.

Since some of the games are quite older, they do come with some inherent challenges getting them to run. Here are some links with workarounds should you choose to buy.

So if you're still looking into it, here is BF2 on sale on Amazon for digital download for $5, that's a great price for this game, especially since it includes all the DLC. Here you go.

u/alwaysclicks · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

I'd go with Mark of the Ninja. It was a really fun game! Also, you can get a Steam key for $3.75 on Amazon

u/robsclone · 3 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

with the controller receiver do-jiggy, this puts Arkham City up to like $26! If you look at it that way, at least... Sounds awesome, but not sure...

BTW: to use wireless 360 controller with windows, this is the gidget needed:

Freelancer was released by Microsoft in the pre-Steam era. https://www.amazon.com/Freelancer-Jewel-Case-Pc/dp/B000NJFMR4/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1467048657&sr=1-1&keywords=freelancer

Its creator has also made Privateer and is working on Star Citizen. Maybe your grandchildrem will be able to play it, though.

u/rt_tlp · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

Will this help?

Note: Civ IV, to my knowledge, doesn't have a steam code available.

u/KingDarius89 · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

in regards to red alert 3, this pack on amazon contains it:

https://www.amazon.com/Command-Conquer-Ultimate-Collection-Online/dp/B009IR1SR0

i grabbed it for $5 about 3 years ago now.

u/TCass29 · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

Hitman: Absolution is only $4.99 on Amazon right now.
GTA 4 is $9.99.
BF3 is $18.61. I like that game. Obviously awesome multiplayer but a surprisingly good campaign as well.
L.A. Noire is $14.99
Also Max Payne 3, Mass Effect 3, Kingdoms of Amalur, Just Cause 2, Dead Island GOTY, Borderlands GOTY, The Walking Dead, Alice: Madness Returns, Deus Ex: HR, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Amnesia. There are a ton of great games at or under $25...you just have to look.

u/Sam_Blam · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

Freelancer might interest you., though I'm not sure how well it's aged

u/10000000100 · 2 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

You can always just buy Bioshock 1 and 2 in a bundle from amazon for only $4.99 - Link

u/manuwoody · 2 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

I asked this a week ago and I ended up getting both on Amazon for $11 bucks(I chose the first one). I'll link you the 2 deals I chose from.
EDIT: Here you go #1 Here you go #2

u/el_filipo · 2 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

You can get both Bioshock and Bioshock 2 from Amazon for just $7.5. They are both Steam-redeemable.

u/vincent_vancough · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

If I were you, I might wait until the Bioshock 1 & 2 bundle goes on sale on Amazon again. That's what I did. With another discount, I got both for $4.25. Steam Activated.

CamelCamelCamel price history

u/frog_tape · 6 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

Amazon is selling it for $30, with a 15% off code available.

Offer code is "Gooncave".

u/Johnny_Gossamer · 5 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

Hotline Miami if you're a fan of fast-paced top-down perspective that Monaco had. There is some stealth but it isn't a big part of the game at all. It's in the current Humble Bundle for cheap, you should check it out!

But if you like indie stealth, you can't go wrong with Stealth Bastard Deluxe or Mark of the Ninja. Mark of the Ninja is currently $3.75 on Amazon for the rest of the day

u/asian9 · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

I've seen this floating around the interwebs, but I've never actually used it myself.

u/StNowhere · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

It is currently available packaged together with Civ IV Complete and Civ V Gold for $19.99 as part of Amazon's MAYhem sale. It'll be available by itself for $9.99 some time in the next couple days.

u/aretardedguy · 2 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

It's actually on sale on amazon bundled with Civ IV and Civ V for $20 at this very moment.

u/Digimule · 26 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

You can buy both on Amazon for $4.99.

It gives you two Steam keys.

u/BrickFurious · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

Or you could just by Civ 4 and 5 together for $12...

Link

u/turnondruid · 2 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

You can get both from Amazon for $7.49.

(Confirmed by myself that it also works for unlocking on Steam)

u/Elaine_Benes_ · 5 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

I have something ridiculous like 500+ hours across all the Souls games and I cannot for the life of me understand how people play them without a controller. If you can borrow your brother's controller, all you need is one of these to play on your PC. If you're really used to keyboard and mouse you might be fine, but it seems crazy to me...have you ever played The Witcher? The gameplay is really similar to that. Aim isn't that important as /u/Zoraji said, and it's more about being able to button mash quickly and intuitively. I find it a lot harder to do that on a keyboard.

Graphics on PC aren't a lot better, although there are some ways you can fuck around with the settings to improve them. I would Google around. I actually just reinstalled DS1 after years of not playing it, so I'm not sure what has changed since it switched to Steamworks. The original dscfix and dsfix are no longer compatible, for one thing, but I think there was a dsfix update.

u/hiccup50073 · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

i prefer the 3ds because it folds so it fits better in my pocket. also, if your charge port is fucked up you can get this which i don't think there's an equivalent for on the 2ds.

u/shady8x · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

u/NoTroop · 1 pointr/ShouldIbuythisgame

Make sure to read the whole thing, I have some stuff about the sale on amazon that might be ending soon.

I'm a bit confused here. You have your wishlist here for steam games for the steam summer sale but also list TLoU. Besides it (Which probably won't go on sale very soon as it isn't on PC) Here are my estimates. Also, hover over the "NOTE" to read extra things about the game and it's sales that I have experienced.

Fallout 3 GOTYE - $5 [NOTE](http://# "This didn't go on sale for more than its base sale (It was never a flash deal, daily deal, or something that even could be voted on for a sale) it might only as low as $10 though.")
Bioshock Infinite - $40 [NOTE](http://# "This game has never gone on sale on steam before AFAIK but it has on other retailers at around this price point")
Skyrim - $20 [NOTE](http://# "This is a lot more of a guess from me, the game just had a large price drop fairly recently and how much it drops now is a big question, I'd expect to pay around 30-40 dollars if you want the legendary edition though")
Bioshock 1 - $5 [NOTE](http://# "This game has been seen to go for as low as $5 dollars bundled with the second game on amazon, it might be worth holding off for that bundle again. Actually, it is on sale as posting this.") Link on Amazon read notes for more info.
Mass Effect - $5 [NOTE](http://# "I'm least sure about this one as I haven't been paying attention to it that much. Not much else to say.")
The Witcher 2 - $6.79 [NOTE](http://# "May only go as low as 7.50 but we'll see")
Dragon Age - $7.50 [NOTE](http://# "This is what I paid for it during he winter sale so it may even go lower.")
The Walking Dead - $10 [NOTE](http://# "May only go down to 12.50 or may go lower, hard to tell right now")

That's about all I have time to go through right now. You can check the rest with this site. for a rough estimate. I've been subscribed to gamedeals for a while and am going off of the price of that mixed in with what the game has gone for elsewhere. But I would HIGHLY recommend picking up that bioshock dual pack on amazon, or even this pack if you are definitely getting Bioshock Infinite and 1
