I got a refurb Ninja on woot for like $85. It's a kitchen system so it has 2 pitchers, one is the blender and the other is supposed to be the food processor. They are exactly the same thing just different sizes. It does a pretty good job of blending the frozen stuff and works quick. I believe it has a 1100 or 1200 watt motor. Amazon link.
Any good thermos will be your friend here if you want to keep your ice cold smoothies ice cold by the time it gets to lunch time. Some will keep them ice cold even up to supper. If you want a brand name i'd recommend a zojirushi like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Zojirushi-SV-GHE50-Stainless-Vacuum-17-Ounce/dp/B004YB3JP4/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1421051371&sr=8-5&keywords=zojirushi+thermos
I love spirulina. I bought a jar of powdered spirulina and add 1/8 - 1/4 of a tsp to my smoothies. It makes you feel amazing.
I like this brand. I bought it at Whole Foods.
It really is up to what you feel comfortable spending. Vitamix is the best but if you cannot justify spending $300+ on a blender then you probably won't notice the minor differences between it and the top of the line Ninja anyway. I have this guy which I got on sale for $179 I think and I personally can't find a $150 difference between it and my parent's Vitamix. Never had a problem blending anything, especially leafy greens which it handles very well.
If you want <$100 then I would go with a Nutribullet or the Nutri Ninja Pro.
One breakfast/recovery smoothie I love to have when I wake up or after the gym is as follows:
Its a sustainable, tasty daily smoothie that is low in sugar (only sugar is from berries and bananas if you source the rest of the ingredients correctly), high in protein (~30g+), has a small amount of good carbs and healthy fats (oats and peanut butter).

That one and the one in vanilla. Vanilla for the mentioned
Have you tried Xantham gum? I started using them to thicken milkshakes and it works wonders. I always add it along with a few ice cubes as a last step once contents are mixed. Good luck! Judee's Xanthan Gum Gluten Free(8... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IZDIMCM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Get a vitamix. Its hands down the best blender you will buy and will last you forever. Its a restaurant quality tool and we use them all the time (Im a chef).
https://www.amazon.com/Vitamix-Standard-Blender-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B00KM03KKA
Its worth the investment, and getting a refurbished one saves you a bit of cash. I believe it comes with a 5 year warranty too.
Stanley was one of many brands I looked at but didn't end up buying. I also looked at Camelbak as I love their filtered water bottle.
My biggest concern when using travel mugs is ease of cleaning. Being able to get all the parts apart and thoroughly wash them.
The lid on that Stanley is not quite spill proof enough for me. It's spill resistant but I wouldn't be able to put it in my lunch bag and know it wasn't going to spill. I looked at that very mug and rejected it for that reason. (I have a medium LL Bean insulated lunch tote and I take a homemade iced coffee and a smoothie to work everyday. Having a spill proof lid for the smoothie was really important to me for ease of carrying everything. The tumbler I use for coffee or iced coffee I just use the regular lids and carry it.)
I also read reviews pretty extensively before buying and I make sure to read negative reviews because I might care about whatever negative that reviewer complained about. So if the performance got no negative reviews I'd be comfortable buying it as well.
This is the spill proof lid I got for my tumblers. The only spill I had was yesterday morning and that was because I hadn't closed the flip top securely, so totally my fault.

I have a small Ninja blender and it makes great smoothies.
I've had this one for a couple years. Works great.
I have one of these (or close to it)
https://www.amazon.com/Blendtec-Classic-475-120V-Blender/dp/B00Q23VW38
It is an amazing blender! It makes smoothies much smoother than the juice/smoothie bar at one of the gyms I go to.
I got this: SANS Reusable Vacuum Pump Smoothie and Shake Saving Glass Bottle (16-Ounce, Mint Green) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LW7K6G0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_lekDCb04YDQJF and it seems to work well for me. I like to make my breakfast smoothie at night for the next morning.
I have this [NutriBullet] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007TIE0GQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and really like it. The taller cup it comes with has a 24oz capacity which I find makes 2 decent sized smoothies.
I don't know if the skinny girl size is any different from nutribullet. I have the regular nutri bullet. I bought a larger size cup from Amazon and it works fine for mine.
This is it: https://www.amazon.com/Blender-Replacement-Compatible-NutriBullet-Blenders/dp/B01KQVCKGO
I have a Ninja blender, and my only complaint is that the blades are so sharp that I sometimes cut myself washing it. It has blended everything really well. Ice, cashews, almonds, smoothies, even Science Diet dry cat food, which is possibly the hardest substance that has ever been in my kitchen. My brother has a Vitamix and loves it, but you can't beat the Ninja price.
Matcha has caffeine in it, just not as much as coffee. Common in smoothies. I use this brand
I use Gold Standard Whey to add protein and flavor to my smoothies.
Thanks for the suggestion. I ordered two big bottles to test out, each 40 oz. One that has an attached straw spout (brand: Hydrology), and the other that is a [tumbler with a straw option and closable opening (brand: Stanley] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M1NJIEG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1).
I'm going to give them both a test run over the next week or two and let you know how they do.
Question: is the Stanley lid "spill-proof" by your standards, @925Copper?
Note that the negative reviews on the Stanley one are because only the 40 oz one appears to come with the advertised handle. No real mention about negative performance otherwise.
