I recently went on a sprouting experimentation binge and tried out a bunch of different sprouters, and there's one sprouter that I can count on to produce more sprouts than I can consume, and it's the easiest to rinse and juggle. The Easy Sprout. I mean, look at that early 80's styling! Clearly these folks hit on perfection and never needed to revise ;)
Seriously, though. That sprouter is awesome. I got mine from Sprout People. They also have great seeds and other supplies.
Glass jars are a pain. They ended up being my least favorite method and I just don't bother with them at all anymore.
Another decent one is the Sprout Master. They're nice if you want to pipeline and stack the boxes. That's the smaller size, it comes in a bigger size, as well. It will make greener sprouts but it's harder to de-hull them at the end. Still way better than glass jars, though.
Here's a video of the Easy Sprout in use. I don't drain mine that vigorously and they're fine, but you get the idea. I think they also have a video of the Sprout Master.
I bought this ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AJJOJD0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) and love it. I have been sprouting this mix as well (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001W2W62/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) and no issues at all. It also comes with a small amount of alfalfa seeds the sprouter that is.
edit: the sprouter seems like it will last years so the upfront cost is worth it.
I love my 4-Tray Seed Sprouter by VICTORIO . (I recommend the newer version over the older one because of the new watering lid, which prevents the seeds in the top tray from moving around while watering)
I'm actually just about to buy a second one for non-broccoli sprouts
thanks, the hydroponic system looks like more moving parts and slightly more of a hassle. And your right the $40 mason jar kit is a lot especially since I don't know my commitment level. I think I'm going with this product: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07899HNQM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A30XMZD2MJMP62&psc=1
Just fit on to any mason jar and place it upside down to drain overnight seems simpler to me than finding something to tilt the mason har 45 degrees.
I just started growing sprouts but I picked this up and it works really well. Seems like most people just use glass jars with special lids.
In case anyone was following this thread. I bought this thing http://www.amazon.com/Prepworks-Progressive-LKS-06-Lettuce-Keeper/dp/B000OUY2QO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394787636&sr=8-1&keywords=vegetable+storage
and my sprouts are looking good after 5 days in the fridge. I also started using a salad spinner after de-hulling to get them dry.
