Could it be The Remarkable Journey of Prince Jen?

When Prince Jen volunteers to search for the legendary court of Tien-kuo, a mysterious old man chooses six gifts for him to bear in homage: a saddle, a sword, a paint box, a bowl, a kite, and a flute. Puzzled by the gifts but full of high spirits and pride, Jen sets off but stumbles almost immediately into a series of misfortunes. Only with the help of his faithful servant, Mafoo, and valiant flute-girl, Voyaging Moon, and only after a breathtakingly exciting string of adventures can Jen discover the real meaning of the gifts and face his true destiny. . . .

I don't think this is what you're looking for, but genetic manipulation/reconstruction and living on a farm remind me of Balook by Piers Anthony, where a kid makes friends with a reconstructed Baluchitherium (giant rhino). Good luck, this sounds really interesting!

Is it Puzzle Island? I fucking loved this book as a kid, even tried to make my own in the same style. Each page is a different scene, and you have to find all the hidden pictures in each to solve the big puzzle at the end, in an effort to help a scientist save a dying species from extinction.

OK. Best I got so far is this, but I don't think that's it. :-)

Still looking.

SOLVED!
I'm 90% sure it's this one right here which I got to from the page you linked me; you can see the cinematic shots in the screenshots page...thank you! although I'm surprised a 15 year old game is going for $20
EDIT: I'm an idiot, it's the same one you linked. Thank you so much </nostalgia>

A Hero Ain't Nothin But a Sandwich is an older (70s) book about a boy who is addicted to heroine. I read the book probably in the late 70s/early 80s, and as I recall he lived with his grandmother, but he may have lived with his parents at some point.

Oooh, yup I've read this book. I definitely still have it at my parents' house - though it might be in a box in the attic. I'll call them, and see what I can do...

Edit: found it! It's The Secret Staircase, by Jill Barclem (a Brambly Hedge book)

>"It was Midwinter's Eve and the mice of Brambly Hedge were very busy. That evening, after dark, they would all be gathering round a blazing fire for the traditional midwinter celebrations. A grand entertainment was planned, and Primrose and Wilfred had chosen to recite a poem.

>They went up to the attics to rehearse in peace and quiet, but there were so many things to look at and places to explore, it was hard to concentrate. And when they stumbled upon a dusty staircase, all thoughts of practicing were put aside..."

Mel Gilden's Fifth Grade Monsters series?

"Danny is just a little worried about his new fifth grade friends: C. D. Bitesky is a miniature Count Dracula, Frankie and Elisa Stein are siblings who seem almost manufactured, and Howie Wolfner gets a little hairy during storms and full moons."

Anything ring a bell?

u/spacetimemeatmachine · 1 pointr/TOMTcoldcase

OH I know exactly what you are talking about I think. Have you read any of the author's other books?

Edit: Island Of The Aunts?

u/smooshie · 2 pointsr/TOMTcoldcase

Possibly this one?

There's a list of Battleship games, most with screenshots, here.

u/McFoSchat · 1 pointr/TOMTcoldcase

Nope. I'm starting to think that I made this movie up in my dream or something. I've searched IMDB and Wikipedia for films fitting my description but the only thing I've found remotely close is Awakened by James S. Murray and Darren Wearmouth. I could swear the movie was based on this book or at least it's very similar to the story of the book. The only problem is that the book was released a few month ago while I've seen the movie about 10 years ago.
