The Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy
If you want something a bit emotionally draining at points, Blindness by Saramago is a good one. It's about a sudden epidemic of blindness, and how the world reacts. And they don't react well. Very much worth your time, but just a forewarning, there is a part that's a bit... rapey.
If you want something very character driven, I liked Ender's Game and the following two branches. The branch that follows Ender (Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind) get a bit philosophical and more and more sci-fi, so I don't know how much I'd recommend it. I kept through it for the characters though. The other branch follows a character named "Bean" from the first book (Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, Shadow Puppets, Shadow of the Giant) and is a lot more military focused, talking about interactions between world powers and military groups. I liked that branch a bit more.
I only ask that if you read those, you get them from the library so that you don't purchase them. I don't like where he sends his money, but that's your choice. I usually don't recommend him to people solely because of that.
Last but not least, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the rest of the series (The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Life the Universe and Everything, So Long and Thanks for All the Fish, Mostly Harmless, And Another Thing...) is FANTASTIC. I recommend this to EVERYONE. Funny, witty, clever, and well written and the guy who wrote it was a good guy too. I'd say buy the complete edition where all the books are in one. I'm not a huge book guy, but I was able to soar through this with no problem. I'm not even gonna say what it's about, but I will say the part about sandwiches is basically my life advice to anyone who asks for some.
Happy reading!
it's called The Lives of the Great Composers, here's a link to the amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Lives-Great-Composers-Harold-Schonberg/dp/0393038572
it's definitely a fun read, I'm only about halfway through it and I feel like it gives a pretty good summary of the lives of the early/really established musicians (bach, haydn, mozart, beethoven, etc.) I'm only just now getting into the sections where it's talking about multiple people per chapter, but he still does a pretty good job of describing them. I think the awesomest part to me is the early parts until it starts going into the mindset of beethoven and how big of a shift it caused. I won't spoil it if you want to read it but it's pretty awesome to see
Sennheiser HD650- music heaven but expensive. At this point though, it's only going to sound as good as the quality of the music files you have. Amp semi-required
Sennheiser HD598- step below the HD650s. Equal treble and mids, not much bass but these are the headphones that makes you appreciate the clear sound without it.
Klipsch X10- very treble-y, it sometimes hurts, but if these weren't the clearest sounding in-ear headphones I've ever had I don't know what. Fairly wide soundstage. I've washed them twice and they still work.
MEE M-Duos- These are the cheapest of the bunch. I was pleasantly surprised at the sound of them. As clean and clear sound as the HD598 but with much more bass. My favorite tbh
Also shoutout to /r/headphones check out their wiki
Check out Jon Ronson! I've only read two of his books, The Psychopath Test and Lost at Sea, but they were both really good.
Here are a couple daily show interviews about the books if you want to get a feel for them. They're super entertaining. He's also had a couple segments on This American Life about similar subject matter.
On a different note, Salt is also way more interesting than it has any right to be.
There are others but oh god I really need to be studying for my exams.
The Drunkard's Walk: How Randomness Rules Our Lives
I read this 5 or 6 years ago and really enjoyed it. Has a lot of math, but includes a lot of history and some psychology as well.
From the Amazon page:
"By showing us the true nature of chance and revealing the psychological illusions that cause us to misjudge the world around us, Mlodinow gives us the tools we need to make more informed decisions. From the classroom to the courtroom and from financial markets to supermarkets, Mlodinow's intriguing and illuminating look at how randomness, chance, and probability affect our daily lives will intrigue, awe, and inspire."
Two words: Index funds
Vanguard is the leader in providing reputable index funds with outrageously low fees. A lot of mutual funds will charge an expense ratio of 0.5% to 2%, which doesn't sound like a lot, but adds up big time in the long run. Vanguard's index fund expense ratios can be as low as 0.05% Considering that the bulk of managed mutual funds don't regularly beat the market, the index fund seems like the best bet for the everyday investor.
Set up an IRA, or an employee sponsored 401k, and begin putting in an affordable amount every month (dollar-cost averaging). Don't worry if the market is up or down, it all balances out in the end (timing the market is impossible for the average investor, and in the long run doesn't matter much anyways). Read up on bogleheads, check out r/investing, don't try to time the market, and remember that dollar-cost averaging is your friend.
Grab some of these as backup headphones. They're cheap, really good sound-wise, and will last forever.
Well they are better than apple earpods anyway :)
Do you like history? I read the big Lincoln book, Team of Rivals. It took forever but man was it worth it. I learned so much and the book really humanized Lincoln for me. When I finished I decided to just read it again, I enjoyed it so much.
Oh, you could get an absolute beast for that price. Depends on your requirements too. The Dell XPS 15 9550 is $1,200. The Dell Inspiron i7559-763BLK has NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M graphics (same as the XPS 15), which would play pretty much any game right now at max settings and is only $800. The ASUS ROG GL752VW-DH71 has the same graphics card but a bigger screen, if that's your thing, and has 16GB RAM (overkill IMO, but the other two have 8GB).
I don't know man, depends on what you want and what you are using it for more specifically. Battery power? Slim design for portability? Ect...
Go to bed. You're gonna wake up tomorrow. You're gonna have a shower and realize you're troubles aren't really troubles and it's just life. You posted this online. You're looking for responses because you don't think anyone in your life cares. Which is blatantly false. If you feel the same way tomorrow, talk to someone. If for whatever reason you don't want to, PM someone.

Samson C01U, which you can get here for cheap right now, but there's only one left in stock. Been using it for an online radio show for about six years with no complaints.
