It's a Guide Gear tent. They're meant for a 'larger' compact truck but they fit my 5ft bed pretty well. Only weird area is the entrance which sits a tiny bit too long. You can let it overhang the tailgate a little (pictured above) or prop the edge up on the tailgate letting the top lean forward giving a little vestibule.

The seams at the roof aren't watertight and you can see a bit of daylight through them, but it comes with a rain fly that's pretty easy to buckle on that covers all of that. All in all, a great tent for that price and we haven't had any issues with it.

Do this as soon as you can. The a.c. puts out a lot of water, so keeping it off the frame to avoid rusting for a few dollars is something everyone should do.

Grats on the new truck man. I think the most common 'mod' is are the vinyl inserts into the "TACOMA" on the tailgate. I can't believe they don't come from the factory this way (Thread with pics and links). While we are talking about tailgates. Toyota failed to secure our tailgates. They don't lock and unlock with the cab. The tailgate takes about 10 seconds to take off and can be carried by one person. A basic tailgate lock isn't a bad plan. Or, if you are feeling like doing a little more work Pop&Lock makes a power kit that ties into your door locks.

Another cheap and awesome mod is LED dome and map lights. While cheap and awesome these are hard to get in stock. Basically all of the MESO customs mods are easy to install and amazing.

I'm sorry to say I have zero experience with remote start. Cheers and enjoy.

amazon.. I had a damaged flair and instead of paying $150 for one OEM replacement, for $4-500 for the "big brands" I saw these TAC with great reviews. installed the rears and LOVE them. Well worth the $189 on prime, even if only doing the rears lol.

Both were really easy to instal and I'm really happy with how they look.

I got the bed cover on last night and we got an inch and a half of driving rain. The bed was totally dry except for one minuscule puddle in the corner of the bed nearest the cab on the drivers side and I think that's just because I didn't have it in perfectly square.

I've used this brand air vent mount before and it worked fine for the most part but ended up getting the top of dashboard mounted one and I've really liked that better.

I highly recommend the visors, I had gotten my dad some normal ones at his request for his Tacoma and didn't like the way they bulged out, but these are perfect, you can't really tell they are there from straight on.

I use a Swagman adjustable truck bed bike rack in my 2015 DCSB.

It fits great and is rock solid between my side bed tracks. I mount the two bikes and move it rear wheel to its respective side of the bed and I am able to close the tailgate with no issues.
The bike rack has a lock that keeps it from being undone and both bike carriers lock as well. Then I run a cable through the rear wheels, frame and front wheels that is locked into the rear tie down points in the bed.

I will be using it this weekend. If you are interested I can snap a picture of the setup for you.

I have a Tyger foldable soft cover I got from Amazon for around $200 and it’s great. Would definitely recommend it.

I like the dmm from taco garage. It’s sleek and not crazy expensive plus it puts my phone in the perfect spot.

Also this organizer for the center console. . Totally worth the $20 or so dollar for the insert and the dividers.

So, I was in the same boat, and after a lot of research, I discovered that most of these Roof Top Tents (RTT) are made in the same factory in china which is why I went with this one to save a some money for about the same quality.


As far as quality goes, I went over every inch of this tent when I first opened it, and besides some metal shavings leftover from the factory, there were no issues besides the mattress being a little thin for a side sleeper like me.


For us, the RTT makes sense since we are going to be going on long road trips (eastern NE to Olympic National Forest in WA being one of them), where, for the majority of the trip, we aren't going to be spending more than one night at each stop. This allows us to set up/tear down in a couple of minutes, whereas with a regular tent or hammock, it takes a bit more time. So the convenience factor plays a pretty large part. And when we do get to our spot, we can just park the truck and hike around from there.


As with most things it comes down to personal preference, and how you go camping (one location vs multiple locations).

Not sure if yours came with them but any kind of weather tech or husky floor mats are a lifesaver! Also for center console organizer I got the vehicle OCD organizer.

You will need a Drill and a 3/8" or 1/2" drill bit. Drill out the stock hole in the bottom of the quickfist to make the hole larger, the screws will then fit through. Put the T-Nut in the bed-rail and slide it down to where you want it. Screw the Quickfist to the T-Nut and you get what you see above! Insert your tool of choice!

The tent is a Smittybilt Overlander that is mounted on two KB Voodoo Crossbars.

Although it's probably hard to see in the video, the crossbars have special brackets that allow for you to use them with a tonneau cover.

You can buy a factory rail off Amazon for like $50. It's the same rail as 2nd gens.

Not really a mod, but the first thing I bought was a Vehicle OCD tray that fits in the center console and makes it a little more functional instead of a massive endless void, along with some console dividers. It's the little things!
