Everybody has a different system. Spiral bound notebooks are really popular for taking notes, but that wasn't my style.

I would recommend loose leaf lined paper, unlined paper, one binder, binder tab dividers, and a three-hole punch. You might need one binder for each math/physics/chemistry class (classes where it's hard to type the notes), and then one binder for all the other classes combined.

I would highly recommend utilizing Microsoft OneNote (should be free through the university) for taking notes!

I would also recommend pens, pencils, erasers, a few highlighters, sticky notes, one folder (for small papers and stuff that can't be hole-punched), flash drives, a USB mouse, earbuds, stapler, scissors, calculator, extra phone charger, a few paper clips, a few binder clips. You may need additional supplies for specific classes, but they will let you know (ex. blue books, lab notebook).

Must-brings for dorm life: extra long phone charger, dorm bed shelf (example), bathroom caddy, shower shoes, surge protectors, extension cords, foam mattress topper (can be Twin size or Twin XL), rain boots or other waterproof shoes, UMBRELLA, trash can (they only provide a recycling bin), mirror, bag for laundry. A comfortable chair (like a sauce chair) is nice but not required, especially if your bed is not lofted. An extra little alarm clock (that you set away from your bed) can be helpful to make yourself get out of bed to turn off the alarm.

Get a book stand!! It’ll save your life when you’re trying to read and take notes (or write an essay) at the same time. This: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005IV6U0U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_WL3hDbH6HSED4 is the one I use. I take it to class and people are legitimately jealous — I’ve had other people end up bringing them, too. It’s so useful, esp if you’re in a book-heavy class.
