He'll look goofy, but it will help him stay warm. They also make summer gear that's really helpful at wicking the sweat away and keeping you cool.

A portable charger is also a great idea. If he's out there using a spotify playlist, his phone is going to lose charge quickly. Speaking of spotify, if you share a playlist, you can add great songs you find at any time, which can be a nice (or funny!) surprise.

Also, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NIOCZIK. Has been helpful at times to see house numbers or walking up unlit walkways.

Get some good work boots with some good shoe inserts. Your feet will thank you, especially during peak when you'll be pulling a 10+ hour shift. Steel toe is not necessary but I do recommend it since it allows you to rest long heavy irregs on your toe and use your whole leg to move them.

It's imperative you get enough sleep. Whether you just go to bed early or sleep in two 4 hour blocks just get your sleep. When you're rested, you're focused; when you're focused you work better and safer. My personal sleep schedule when I was in preload was 3 hours after the shift and 5 hours before the shift. Either way, just get your 8 hours a day.

With you starting in the summer it's important to have enough water. I personally bought one of these. If your center has an ice machine and water fountains, fill it before your shift; if not fill it before you leave home. On some of the hotter days there were times I drank that whole thing and had to refill mid shift.

Get to know your drivers and if they're not asses, they'll be friendly and tell you how to better load their trucks. I personally asked my drivers every day how my load was the previous day so I know what to work on. Happy drivers are drivers that aren't complaining to your sup. When I became a part time sup, talking to angry drivers is a pain. That said, don't be nervous if your driver happens to be an ass and is a serial complainer. Sups probably already know them and won't hold it against you.

A nice pair of cold weather work gloves are always a good idea. I like the Welles-Lamont HydraHyde gloves I've been wearing lately. The challenge is finding something warm enough, but thin enough to be able to write and use the diad.

Edit: Just realized there are dozens of HydraHyde gloves, these are the specific ones I like.

This is the one that I use. It came with my phone but it works very well. I usually leave it in the back with my bag and it hasn't had any issues with heat yet as far as I can tell.

I like these timberland pros, though I do put some orthotic inserts in them. I just bought my second pair.

Thanks, everyone. I eventually purchased a dedicated laptop shipping box from Amazon. The laptop is almost suspended in the box as this illustrates. It's a bit wide but still has 1" to the edges of the box, which I filled with rolled bubble wrap. I also reinforced those edges to be triple-wall. Someone would have to seriously abuse this package to cause damage to the laptop.
