This will sound strange, but the singular food that seems to most agree with me when I am having a flare is Original Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut. No toppings—just cheese.

The only thing I can figure is that I basically grew up on that as a kid and perhaps my microbiome has evolved to handle it perfectly. 😂 I normally eat a healthy vegetarian diet. But when I’m having a flare, I go right to it.

I also go for a lot of rice, mainly because I love rice and this is an excuse to eat it in excess. My favorite is Shirakiku Cooked Gohan Rice, which I buy in bulk at a particular Asian grocery whenever I’m in Chicago, which is usually twice a year on business. Haven’t found it locally, or online at a reasonable price. Heats in two minutes, and I have it with a little bit of butter and salt.

Hiya!

I've been a vegetarian since age 4 and have had UC for 5 or so years

It's tough to not eat beans, but I've found that over time I've been able to work milder legumes like chickpeas back into my diet. Soup with small amounts of barley are ok for me (I really like this one and the rest of their veggie soups).

I've also found that whole grain breads that are not seedy are generally ok for me (I don't do it all the time, but as long as it's a smooth whole grain it seems to be fine)

Tofu, nuts, cheese (my best friend), lactaid milk, smaller amounts of hummus, Morningstar farms 'meat' products (if you can do that kind of soy) are all my main types of protein!

I would definitely suggest avoiding black beans, quinoa, raw oats (cooked oatmeal is ok for me), raw broccoli/onions/corn. Anything advertised as being high in fiber is a major no-no

Definitely feel free to ask any questions you may have!

Wow you are a dynamo, I'm glad you're already so far into Briggs and getting benefits, that is awesome. I feel like a slacker, haha.

I'm gonna try the enemas with the same amount vit e and colostrum you mention and will add l-glutamine and also vsl-3 probiotic when I can afford.

I'm really going to be interested in the colostrum since I've never tried it before. Saw a good article which references the same study Briggs mentions regarding it's success with distal colitis:

https://www.clinicaleducation.org/resources/reviews/colostrum-meets-the-microbiome-a-tried-and-true-remedy-for-gut-health-takes-center-stage/

I'm looking on Amazon for the specific colostrum powder Briggs mentions, which I believe was called Symbiotics. For some reason I don't see a product link on his website. This is the one I'm considering:

Symbiotics Colostrum Plus Powder – 6.3 oz (new formula) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000F4J82W/

Is this similar to what you're using? I'm guessing that's why you said the enemas are so expensive.

I really love to eat so I've always eaten mostly what I want, but the main trigger food for me was anything that was really spicy, like buffalo wings, one of my favorite foods of all time. I started taking this probiotic little over a month ago: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007IQMVG

^This probiotic changed my life completely. I'm still taking my pharmaceutical medication (Lialda, 1.2 gm 3x) and an over-the-counter (Imodium, 2 mg 3x) and one of these capsules every night before I go to bed. I've posted this in the Crohns subreddit but they've informed me that probiotics have a much more profound effect on Ulcerative Colitis victims. Please, please, please try this stuff if you have UC and you're not getting the help you deserve. I wish I would have tried this years ago. I'm sorry for going off on a tangent but the point I'm trying to make is with this probiotic I can eat literally whatever I want and I'm completely normal every day now.

I would like to recommend something that worked for me, Enzymes. I use a product you can get on amazon http://www.amazon.com/NOW-Foods-Super-Enzymes-Capsules/dp/B0013OXKHC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425396051&sr=8-1&keywords=super+enzyme.

It helps digest food and allows your stomach to "rest" a little. Also be sure that you are chewing your food enough. Don't let your stomach do the work, allow the teeth and saliva(contains natural enzymes) do the work. I hope this helps a little and you can get through sooner rather than later.

I use this kind

And I use size 00 capsules and fill them up and take them 3-4 times a day. Good luck and hope it helps!

Plant based for me after years and years of whey... This is the absolute best I've found and works great no matter how you take it...

Hey. Welcome to the UC club. I to have just been diagnosed. The blood comes and goes for me. There is a fair bit of research in to food and IBS however not so many links with IDB. However I am specifically trying something called low FODMAP diet. There is a lot of research and independent studies backing it up and it isn’t that restrictive (apart from onions, no onions).
I’m also keeping a food and symptom diary on an app called Cara hoping to find a link.

The books I’m using are.
The Complete Low FODMAP Diet

The Complete Low FODMAP Diet Cookbook

FODMAP Navigator

Have a look the diet may be useless or it may work wonders. Everybody is different. Take care and good luck.

Jarrow Formulas Saccharomyces Boulardii + MOS, 5 Billion Cells Per Capsule, Promotes Intestinal and Digestive Health, 90 Veggie Capsules https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013OVW0E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_IXZUAb1W7A8GX

I’m currently taking this probiotic and it’s reviews are incredible for people with IBS/UC. I have issues with inflammation and fistulas and have noticed a difference when taking this. I definitely recommend researching and trying it.

I was diagnosed 2 years ago. I was really confused the first year about what I should be worried about and what was normal. I read a book called The First Year: Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis: An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed
by Jill Sklar (https://www.amazon.com/First-Year-Ulcerative-Essential-Diagnosed/dp/1600940226), and it helped me better understand the disease. I highly recommend it.

Many states have passed the Restroom Access Act (Ally's Law) for people with specific medical conditions to have access to bathroom. You can also request for a card here.

In any case, I too have a similar set up, but in my car in case of an emergency in the middle of a drive. It's a bucket but with a toilet seat that you can get on Amazon

I was going to suggest Military energy gum, but it does have caffeine. My husband swears by it with his crappy rotating shift schedule. I've used it myself after a bad night and it worked great with no side effects.
