It's pretty easy to find testing kits on Amazon, but from what I've seen those cost $25-$45 each and only tell you in an analog fashion that your sperm count is above or below 20 million.

My recommendation (the rest of this is just a repost of something I posted earlier this week--sorry to anyone that's seen this before):
If you're looking for a long term solution that requires some investment but could really ease your mind...

You could buy

-A Microscope

-Some slides

-And some pipettes

...and then check your sperm count once or twice a year. All that costs about $100, but it should last you decades. I won't have my vasectomy until a couple weeks from now, but I've purchased these items and looked at my sperm under the microscope in order to get a feel for it.

Count the sperm in the 400x field of view. Record the numbers on the analysis sheet, or multiply the number by .5 to see the total. The total number of sperm is counted in millions, so a result of 72 would mean approximately 72,000,000 sperm.

According to the World Health Organisation, a man needs a sperm count of at least 20 million sperm per millilitre of ejaculate to have a chance of conceiving a child without medical intervention.

I ordered these and got them today. Game changer! I’m 5 days in. Way more comfortable than the jock the Dr give you and way better support than my boxer briefs.

Boxer briefs are a good option once healing is complete, but he's going to want something that won't stretch throughout the day. These compression shorts would be a much better option for the first few weeks:

As for when he can lift - I'd avoid lifting anything other than your child (and even then only when he absolutely has to) for a full week. After the first week, he needs to listen to his body. If he over does it, he's going to seriously regret it (I can speak from personal experience).

One more thing - it seems most men have this idea that they're going to be healed after a few days. If he thinks this, he needs to get the idea out of his head. He may feel fine after a week - but that's rare. He may also remain sore for months - that's normal. Everyone heals at a different rate - the key is to not stress and give your body the time it needs to heal properly.

The procedure is a piece of cake - best of luck to him!

Great! Took me about 4-5 days to fully recover. The last annoying thing was the nutsack issue, solved by these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TC71M86

(short story: oh hey, ball hair has a purpose - to help prevent sticking. So after they shave your balls, everything sticks to your legs, and with the stitches on the side, it's not comfortable)

Other than that, I'm doing great! Back to walking around and doing normal stuff. Haven't had sex yet (with a condom, of course) so I'm not sure how that very first ejaculation after the procedure will feel. A little wary about that, but we'll see. The doc said it might be a little uncomfortable but increasingly better after that.

Is what I was recommended for a jock on here. A couple people had success with it. My wife bought the orange one. It's easily the most comfortable I've experienced.

I also bought these compression shorts:
https://www.amazon.com/Neleus-Mens-Compression-Short-Black/dp/B01DKB8MXM/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1542928486&sr=8-1-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=neleus+mens+3+pack+athletic+compression&psc=1
The idea is simple: keep the boys high and snug with minimal movement after surgery to reduce/prevent pain, unnecessary swelling, etc. and speed recovery.

Some people go with one or the other, some wear both simultaneously, whatever. I plan to use the shorts most of the time, but have to bring a jock to my appointment.

Got these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071WNSPF3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6dRFDb38D6ACS

The fit was good and snug for what I was looking for, I also got a set of the boxer briefs and those have been great since the ache and pain subsided!

It's amazing how much people freak out when you causally mention you once bought human sperm from Amazon,

u/rd0128 · 1 pointr/Vasectomy

There’s an at home testing get that I just bought and tried. It’s $60 on amazon and it’s called Yo Sperm Test.

It’s essentially a microscope that clips onto your phone. Maybe if she witnesses a blank test, it will put her more at ease.

I’m going on 8 hours post op here now. Haven’t felt a need to cool the berries down yet. Im anticipating tomorrow being a different story. I had the scalpel version with 2 incisions. The needles hurt a little - perhaps a 3 out of 10. Was amazing how quickly it went numb. From needle out, to scalpel in, maybe 10 seconds. I commented on it and dr said when the anesthetic is put in the nerve canal it is extremely fast. 15 minutes start to end, and makes well up into the 8000s for my dr.

Got some toradol and have these in the freezer and what I’m planning to use: https://www.amazon.ca/Rapid-Air-Reusable-Cold-Packs/dp/B07D46NXBT/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?keywords=gel+ice+pack&qid=1570573113&sprefix=gel+&sr=8-7

Someone here recommended this one. I agree!
Shock Doctor Athletic Supporter Jockstrap with Cup Pocket, Youth & Adult https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009F3Y9DM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_zSDjbOLbEYx2i

This is the combo I did

jockstrap:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079D1LPN9/
compression shorts:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00181ERY0/

Jockstrap to keep the boys snug and in place. Compression underwear on top of that to keep everything else snug/prevent tugging + the cup to prevent any impacts (good to prevent getting hit in the dick by kids/pets/crowds). Both come in your size, just be sure to check the size chart.
