If you're going to get one - you're going to want this book. https://www.amazon.com/Restore-Classic-Smallframe-Vespa-Scooters/dp/1787114082/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=small+frame+vespa&qid=1554234020&s=gateway&sr=8-3

Seriously - don't do anything else before you get this book. There's also one for large frame vespas - but it will show/teach you how to do everything.

My 2 cents - study for a long time or be willing to spend a fair amount on an old scooter. You could get lucky and find one that's in solid shape, but these bikes have to be run - they're all very mechanical which means if they sit, the start to fall apart. Repairs are fun if you're into that, able and have a few special tools - but like every project you can find yourself wayyyy down the rabbit hole.

modernvespa.com is a great resource for just about any sort of bike. For what you're talking about, take a look at the "Not so modern" forum. Search, read, enjoy!!

Thank you! It’s been a couple of days since I posted this. I am not sure if this comment will bee seen, but if anyone wants this t-shirt, I added it to Amazon for people to buy. Here’s the link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H959Q7G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_BtiMBbWH9XJC4

I'll be the voice of opposition here. The helmet pictured is certainly better than no helmet at all.

That being said, I rode without a helmet from the day I was 16 (1980) and got my license (got my M1 the same day as my regular driver's license) until it became mandatory in 1992. I totaled two Vespas in that timeframe (first time, got hit by a drunk driver, second time a lady made a left turn in front of me), and was uninjured both times.

I don't like the way helmets restrict my peripheral vision, and restrict my hearing.

The helmet I now wear is the Bell Pit Boss half helmet.

It is DOT rated, and works well. Great peripheral vision, doesn't restrict hearing, has a very nice drop-down visor, and doesn't make my head sweat.

Ride with the gear you like, or you'll end up not wearing it, or avoiding riding altogether. Life is too short to worry about every single "what if."

Or not. Do what you like. I'll do the same.

I’ve used this with several strips of double-sided 3M VB tape. Works a treat.
