I am not a doctor, and am not advocating a particular vitamin brand. What I do use is this supplement and have found it to be pretty powerful. Being a vegetarian, I get the vegetarian capsules. This one is also good if you have allergies to peanuts, dairy or shellfish.

If you've gone to the dr recently, they may be able to advise you on the appropriate strength of vitamin D to take to meet your specific needs. I know from routine physicals that I'm vitamin D deficient anyway, and take a bit more than the average person might as a result.

I like to take the Vitamin D in the am. For me, it impacts my wakefulness during the day positively and my ability to sleep at night negatively if taken too late in the day.

Finally, no matter what supplement you ultimately choose, check out the quality of it before you buy. There are websites like Labdoor that rank vitamins based on quality. There is a huge problem with how unregulated (in the US) vitamin supplements are and many supplements don't contain what they say they do on the bottle. There are other vitamin quality comparison websites, google for those and look at a few to feel comfortable with what you are getting.

Good luck!

It could always be a placebo. If it's one like this one, nobody seems to know the distance you need to be for 10,000 lux, so most likely it's very close (6" or less).

And yeah, they are supposed to be obscenely bright. They have to trick your brain into thinking you're getting sunshine, after all!

This is half the usual recommended Lux (this is 5000), but studies (http://www.columbia.edu/~mt12/blt.htm) have shown that you just use it longer for the same affect:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K08ZDBI/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's $40 and I paid $40 in 2014, so the price is pretty stable.

Seems crazy haha, but I find it very helpful, i use it for 45 minutes in the morning, not every morning

Late to the party, but I use a carex daylight classic. I tend to sit under it a bit mostly. IIRC, distance is 18 inches for 10,000 lux, but I could be wrong. Had it for years.

It says that model isn’t available anymore. I have one at my house and one at my job.
