The color of new AEs is very matte when you take them out of the box. After spending time polishing them they will look like different shoes.

If you are on a budget I would at the very least put a few coats of neutral wax on them. This will slightly nourish the leather, bring out a shine, and add a layer of protection from scuffs and water. I don't have trees for every pair. I wear a pair, let them sit an hour after I take them off to dry, then insert a tree for 24 hours. I rotate 2 sets of trees through my collection. You could get away with just one.

I also bought Saphir Medaille d'Or Pommadier Cream in Neutral, Cognac and Medium Brown

Haven't used any of them yet to vouch for which I feel is best personally, my replacement Fifth Aves are due to arrive tomorrow.

Maybe get leather bottoms and get some rubber overshoes for the bad weather?

Leather bottoms are dressier looking for sure.

Also, make sure you measure your feet with socks on if you are going to buy online and not try on in store.

I love my Fifths. Close to as dressy as the Parks with the small brouging strip. I’d agree they go with anything.

I have heard from others that rubber soles make the shoe stiffer.

I have two sets of the AE combination trees, but I actually like these Ollieroo trees better.

Interestingly, the boots now are shown with a wool lining and not the original shearling lining!
