Any standard GP should be able to help her try a different anti-depressant. Her fatigue may be a sign of atypical depression which could help guide medication choice.

Some evidence-based non medication based interventions include that are easy to acccess:

Cognitive behavioural therapy

  • Beating the Blues Online free counselling programme, requires GP to give you access. NZ based.
  • Sparx NZ designed 3D role playing game that counsels you.
  • MoodGym Free Aussy online counselling programme. There is also E couch and MoodJuice
  • For a book I recommend The happiness trap. Not CBT but a related one called Acceptance Commitment Therapy which is also effective.
  • For face to face, this will depend on her and what kind of person she wants to open up to. If you don't have a good connection with the counselor it's a waste of time. Therefore it's difficult to make a blanket recommendation.
  • If she works at a large company they may have "EAP" (employee assistance programme) where you can normally get free counselling.

    Meditation

  • Calm website Free Auckland uni based
  • Headspace Not free but pretty good. There is also a free trial.
  • For face to face, there are plenty of courses around.
  • For a book I recommend mindfulness in plain English

    Exercise

  • Shown to be effective. No links other than proof http://www.cochrane.org/CD004366/DEPRESSN_exercise-for-depression

And remember, in a crisis call 0800 800 717 for 24/7 urgent mental health help.

Check Trademe.

Buy something Japanese if you want it to be reliable and not rust to pieces but the Chinese and Korean ones will get you from A to B for a limited amount of time (they'll last longer if you keep it in a garage) for a relatively small amount of money. A Yamaha Jog is one of the faster 49cc ones (one of the very few that can actually make it to 60KM/H). Buy a Piaggio, Vespa or Peugeot if you're bourgeois.

Make sure you get a nice full face helmet that fits you well and some gear. Cars don't discriminate between hitting people in gear and those that are not; better to leave the altercation with your face and skin than without. Definitely recommend getting a helmet with an internal sunvisor. For one, they make you look like robocop, but they're also invaluable for commutes when the sun is low in the sky.

4 stroke engines like those in the Honda Today are reliable and run a long time but they're slow as fuck and no fun at all (seriously, can barely make it to road speeds, which is both dangerous and a liability to other motorists).

2 stroke engines are faster, but they require topping up the oil as you top up the petrol and they also require the top end to be rebuilt periodically. They will eventually seize and ideally you will rebuild it before it seizes. If you buy one that is reaching 40,000KMs, plan on rebuilding it. It's not as difficult as it sounds. You just get a kit like this (which is one for aforementioned Yamaha Jog) and you take some parts off and replace them; or just don't get one with that much mileage. They also smell delicious; it will grow on you.

I went bag shopping last week so I might be able to help.

Retail stores in Auckland:

  • Kathmandu
  • Strandbags
  • Apple store (Newmarket)
  • Macpac

It's also worth looking in camera stores because they have a lot of quality bags. Camera+Camera and Photo Warehouse are right by each other on Queen St so between them you can see pretty much everything available.

You can actually get internationally-ordered bags relatively cheaply. This one from Amazon is NZ$65 including delivery, which is about half the price you'd find it for in New Zealand. It's a great bag with plenty of pockets and padded protection for your electronics. It'd take about two weeks to arrive though, so that might be a dealbreaker.

I bought this one from amazon because it was cheap and I didn't want to spend heaps of money on some of the fancier ones when I didn't know if it would help.
Its okay, it's definitely nicer than waking up to a sound alarm every morning.

I think it says they are replacing the pads, I could be mistaken but I thought it says 1mm and 2mm somewhere (though I’ll leave it up to him to check) and I’ve not found anywhere in AKL that had pads when I was looking for a sheet that didn’t want more that sixty bucks. Could you recommend somewhere?

Edit: I see I did say paste as well though I already have a shit load anyway. This is the excerpt of what I saw about pads

AW 1070 Model:

I'd recommend replacing the stock thermal pads with Fujipoly:

2x - 1.0mm (https://www.amazon.com/Fujipoly-mod...=UTF8&qid=1480891448&sr=8-6&keywords=fujipoly)

1x - 0.5mm (https://www.amazon.com/Fujipoly-mod-smart-Extreme-Thermal/dp/B00ZSJRH22/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1480891448&sr=8-3&keywords=fujipoly)
