If you want to say that rape is as natural as theft and murder, then fair enough, but his premise that consent wasn't "something that early homo sapiens cared about as it desperately tried to reproduce in the Ice Age" seems a bit dubious.

It seems to play to the alpha male spreading his seed - I gather that's discredited.

Sex at Dawn posits that:

> human beings evolved in egalitarian hunter-gatherer bands in which sexual interaction was a shared resource, much like food, child care, and group defense.

> The authors argue that the public and many researchers are guilty of the "Flintstonization" of hunter-gatherer society; that is to say projecting modern assumptions and beliefs onto earlier societies.

Instead:

> mate selection was not the subject of much intragroup competition among pre-agricultural humans, as sex was neither scarce nor commodified;

I.E. sex was widely shared around the campfire.

I think the authors suggest that society was matriarchal.
