there are also bengali to english dictionaries available online for use, depending on his web skills. I think it also helps to watch TV or read the news, local or foreign. There are some great Bangladeshi english newspapers that he could browse online like the daily star and dhaka tribune.
It's a ridiculously complicated series of coups, counter-coups and mass uprisings. Sadly, it's almost impossible to find neutral historians on this issue in Bangladesh, for pretty obvious reasons. I would recommend the book below if you're interested in an account by a respected and relatively neutral academic
