I just spoke to an Amazon representative who contacted the inventory department directly. He said they are estimating availability of the CDMA version in 1-2 weeks. I would assume this applies to the few who were able to pre-order the CDMA version as well. Very disappointing.

Initial Question: Hello, I am inquiring about the availability of the Blackberry Keyone CDMA smartphone. When will this phone be available for purchase? I was informed by TCL it would be ready for purchase today.

08:40 AM PDT Vinoth(Amazon): Hello, my name is Vinoth. I'm here to help you today.
Thank you for being a Prime member.
I can understand your concern.
May I know the item link you are referring to please?

08:41 AM PDT ja_8828: I don't have a link; I am wondering if the phone is available for purchase. I was hoping you
could provide me a link so I can purchase it

08:41 AM PDT Vinoth: Let me check up that for you now.
Please give me a minute while I check up that for you now.

08:42 AM PDT ja_8828: ok

08:43 AM PDT Vinoth: Please check that up with the below link:https://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-KEYone-32GB-BBB100-2-International/dp/B071RNCFQF/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1496245353&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=Blackberry+Keyone+CDMA+smartphone

08:45 AM PDT ja_8828: I am aware of the link you provided, however it was my understanding the US Blackberry Keyone CDMA that released today would be $549

08:46 AM PDT ja_8828: That link is for an overpriced international version that has been up for weeks. I am specifically concerned with the US release of this phone

08:46 AM PDT Vinoth: https://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-Keyone-GSM-Smartphone-Unlocked/dp/B06ZYGDY4P/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1496245552&sr=8-2-fkmr0&keywords=US+Blackberry+Keyone&refinements=p_89%3ABlackBerry
Are you referring to the above link?

08:47 AM PDT ja_8828: Yes that is the one, however that particular version is the GSM version. I need the CDMA version since my carrier is Verizon. It is my understanding that Amazon would be selling both? This was printed in many national publications that Amazon would sell a CDMA version as well

08:50 AM PDT Vinoth: I can understand your concern. I have checked and see that the item with CDMA version is not yet launched in our website. In this case, I will contact our inventory department and request them to make avail the item as soon as possible.
Is that fine for you?

08:51 AM PDT ja_8828: Yes, once you contact them, can you let me know when your inventory department says it will be available? I can wait for you.

08:52 AM PDT Vinoth: Sure. Once the item is available, we will notify back via email. You can also check in our website on a time-to-time basis.
Is that fine for you?

08:53 AM PDT ja_8828: I would like you to contact them now, and let me know in this chat what they tell you regarding availability. I will wait here in this chat until you return with their response. Thank you

08:54 AM PDT Vinoth: We can request them now but they cannot tell the availability right now. They will get back to you within 24-48 hours with the availability information.
Will that work for you?

08:55 AM PDT ja_8828: I would just like you to contact the inventory department with my concern, and let me know what their response is regarding availability. You are telling me that you cannot contact them?

08:56 AM PDT Vinoth: I will contact them right now but it is an automated process. They will get back to you directly with the availability information within 24-48 hours. I hope you can understand it now.

08:59 AM PDT ja_8828: Is there anyone you can call and speak to directly? I don't want them to get back with me; I would like a representative to contact them directly and let me know what the inventory department tells them regarding the specific availability. I do not believe this is too much to ask. I need this item as soon as possible for work and I was expecting it to be available, so I need a direct answer from the inventory department.

09:00 AM PDT Vinoth: I can understand your concern completely.
Please be on hold.

09:00 AM PDT ja_8828: Thank you

09:03 AM PDT Vinoth: Thanks for waiting.
I have checked and see that the item will be available in our website within 1-2 weeks from now on. You might also want to check our international sites (www.amazon.com/international) to see if the item is available. Orders placed at these sites cannot be combined with Amazon.com orders and will also be shipped from outside the U.S., so international shipping costs will apply.
Is that okay for you?

09:04 AM PDT ja_8828: Ok, so 1-2 weeks is the official answer directly from the inventory department?

09:04 AM PDT Vinoth: Yes, you are correct.

09:05 AM PDT ja_8828: Ok, that is disappointing. I really appreciate your efforts on my behalf. Thanks

09:05 AM PDT Vinoth: Thanks for your understanding.
Is there anything else I can assist you with today?

09:05 AM PDT ja_8828: No, have a nice day

1)

  • A- I have never used one so I cannot comment.

  • B- Gmail is easy to setup you can even use this as your main email account.

  • C- I don't have a lot of experience with this but from what I understand the netflix app from the Play Store will work you just need to find an older apk (version) of it. The newer version wants to go full screen and cuts off some of the video. However, I heard that from someone a few years ago. I have not used netflix on my passport personally.

  • D- I don't have much experience with this either. Apparently the Play Store has a usable app.

  • E- BBM has a Reddit app in it's App World called Reddit in Motion. However, I have heard there are some issues. From what I understand no Reddit app works perfectly. I personally use Reddit is Fun. I have the pro edition and have very few issues with it. Only thing that will not work is Imgur albums with gifs in them and some Imgur albums. They will crash the app.

  • F- Again there is a native BB10 app. However recent reviews are mixed. Some say it works others say it's slow and non responsive. I cannot comment as to whether or not it works or an Android version is better. Crackberry has an article about the integration of it. It's from 2013 but if the native app still works this should be useful.

  • G- I use the web brower for Facebook. I don't have many issues with it. You will not receive notifications though. Comment replies are a little tricky to click on but once you find out where the hyperlink actually is you won't have issues. I created a short cut to my app page for it.

  • H- Not sure on Skype. I don't think it works for BB10 users.

  • I. Again can't help you for music. I don't have many issues with the native player. If you are looking to stream Spotify is really your only option. I could not get Google music to work. An older APK of Google music might work for you but I have not looked into that.

    2) Get Cobalts Play Store on your device so you can sideload android apps. Here is a tutorial you can use. I can't find the exact one I used but this seems to be the same steps. I had the Play Store running in minutes.

  • Also do not close any Android apps that you have downloaded by backing out of them. For example Reddit is Fun has a back tab to exit the app. If I do exit the app this way the keyboard gestures become unresponsive. To get around this if you want to close the app simply swipe up from the bottom of the screen to minimize the app and close it from the home screen (there is an X in the corner of all open apps)

  • Finally, learn the keyboard short cuts and gestures. The keyboard is touch responsive. Here is a list of ones for the classic. Most of them apply.

  • Some tips that aren't mentioned On the Passport when you want to delete a full word of text simply swipe right to left on the keyboard and it will go back an entire word.

  • The Passport also has a virtual keyboard that is on top of the 3 physical lines. To flip between symbols and numbers slide down on the keys and it will open new options for you.

  • To access the hub quickly from any app or position in the phone slide your thumb up from the bottom of the screen and to the right. I found this to be a big help.

    3) I was able to successfully and without synch all of my contacts through my Gmail account. I did not use the SD card method. Gmail also regularly syncs contact updates just like it would on my android device.

    4) This is the case that was recommended to me. I think it is great. If you are in the States you can search the name of the product they offer it out of the USA as well.

Everything else I have kind of learned through trial and error. Crackberry.com is a great resource. I have only had my Passport for a

I've actually gotten in the habit of placing it face down until I get a case backing for it to make it so the camera doesn't bulge out any more, so I only see the bar when I pick it up to check on it.

I searched around amazon.ca for some equivalents that were still both highly rated and reasonably priced, and here's what I found:

Charger: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B016LO4UTA

Cable: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01JPEKJYI

Hope those are okay, feel free to search around yourself if you'd like. The Priv has QuickCharge 2.0, but pretty much all 3.0 chargers are backwards compatible anyway, and I got a 3.0 one just to future-proof. I also have one of those external batteries that I love, for travel days or busy days or something, and you can find great ones with 16,000 mAh and QuickCharge for less than $30 now if you don't already have one.

I'm glad you're starting to love the phone! I've warmed up to it as well, and not just because the battery doubles as a space heater under heavy usage.

You'll love the Q10. I have a Z10 but used a Q10 for a month or so while my Z10 was being repaired/replaced.

To your questions:

  1. 1GB should suffice for the browsing you are doing. I purchased the Data Usage Counter to monitor all my communication services. It is excellent and the DEV is in BETA on a wicked release. Well worth purchasing.
  • Attachments do not automatically download unless you configure your device to do so.
  1. Heat is not an issue I experienced, nor heard from other users. Don't worry about it.
  2. You should get at least a full day of use with a Q10. I recently purchased an extra battery/charger bundle from Amazon for my Z10 and couldn't be more pleased. Spare battery or recharge from the bundle.
  3. I've never had a problem with any BlackBerry I've owned as they are very durable. Do yourself a favour though, get a holster.

Although I loved the keyboard on the Q10, I missed having a larger screen size. YMMV.

The other app that enhances my BB10 experience is HUB++, you too can become a notification ninja :-)

Nope. Only the SD450 powered 'Evolve' is on sale. The only 'official' word from BlackBerryMobile India has been something along the lines of 'expect good news soon'.

Here's the Evolve available for sale, on Amazon India: https://www.amazon.in/BlackBerry-Evolve-Black/dp/B07DJHY7YM/ref=pd_cp_107_1/259-2559051-4286619?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07DJHY7YM&pd_rd_r=fd373f3f-572a-11e9-9399-9fa14e2ff469&pd_rd_w=xQ77x&pd_rd_wg=XPbpb&pf_rd_p=cf49abc6-2d3e-4a22-9a85-f5ff7f5942fa&pf_rd_r=63MG9HAK68SCSSK7N2S2&psc=1&refRID=63MG9HAK68SCSSK7N2S2

You may also consider importing it, but do check band support.

P.S: I no longer own a BlackBerry device. Sold my Key2 since I felt the scroll functionality using the capacitative keyboard wasn't working as it was when I first got the device. Picked up a 6|128GB variant of the Xiaomi Mi A2. Same SoC. Way better cameras. No keyboard. But it feels nice to have a large screen again, albeit one am still getting used to.

If having a physical keyboard is not a top priorty, I sincere recommend picking up anything else available at the moment.

The new Redmi Note 7. Mi A2/A2 Lite. The new Nokia devices (do remember that the bootloader is firmly locked down on these).

I am beginning to lose hope we'd ever see the Evolve X in India, even. It has never gone on sale. The SD660 is already a generation old. And if one wanted a 660 powered device, there are other, far better options out there.

Cheers!

I was in a similarboat two years ago in that I had never owned a mobile phone. Paid $150 for an unlocked Q5 from the blackberry store and it was great, couldn't be beat for the price. Now they are even cheaper.

I upgraded to a Passport a year later but I still use the Q5 to play music and as a backup phone. It works just fine, the keyboard is small but I managed to use it with my large hands. Nothing has changed in the past few years that makes this phone obsolete.

As long as it says unlocked you are good to go. It looks like you can buy them on Amazon unlocked from Blackberry for $100. I don't know how you'd find a better phone for $100.

u/MacheteSanta · 3 pointsr/blackberry

I don't think the Passport ever came out for Verizon or Sprint (CDMA).

On Amazon I just see the Q10 (keyboard), Z30 and Z10 remain available for Verizon

If these interest you please research the best vendors on Amazon. All three are sold by vendors, the Q10 is fulfilled by Amazon. However the Q10's screen might be too small for your tastes. The Z30 is a very highly lauded slate phone

The upcoming slate-with-keyboard-phone codenamed "Mercury" is coming out early next year (running Android)

Not going case-free. Got this and very happy with it. I like when I put my phone on a table or something it won't get knocked off. Buttons are easy to press and very clear to show off this beauty.

u/showmeurknuckleball · 3 pointsr/blackberry

I definitely understand what you're talking about, and I just wanted to chime in and let you know that putting this case:

https://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-Ringke-Protection-Absorption-Technology/dp/B072M73S4C

on my KeyOne greatly improves my typing comfort and experience. It adds just the right about of bulk and size to the phone to make it much more comfortable to grip.

u/fortinwithwill · 2 pointsr/blackberry

I literally bought 2 Privs from Amazon for 600 dollars like 3 weeks ago. Its actually cheaper now. And its the best phone I have ever owned. https://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-Factory-Unlocked-Smartphone-Warranty/dp/B0169SNI3C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492642388&sr=8-1&keywords=priv

And I don't know why people say the phone overheats or the keyboard is useless. The phone never gets hot since Android 6 and the keyboard is the best feature on any phone. I fucking hate typing on a touchscreen so the Priv is a perfect blend of a regular phone and a Blackberry.

u/Isaiah7300 · 1 pointr/blackberry

I use Message+ anyway, so that won't be any issue there. I haven't been out of the country in years so I'm not worried about the international either. That's good to know though, thanks again for the info. One of the biggest reasons i'm looking to switch from Keyone is that the 3GB RAM is just not sufficient and I get frequent lagging/hanging when I have too much open. Works great when everything is closed, but there is pretty much no effective multitasking that I've found. Do you think 4GB is enough in Key2 LE?

Now that I have had more time to do some research, it seems the INDIA KeyTwo (BBF100-6) is available as refurb for $440 without warranty from amazon. +$90 isn't bad for the extra RAM, but seems people are frustrated with that model having some accidental emergency dialing issue. Also, Idk if I feel comfortable going no-warranty.

this is what i got. i like it so far. slim profile/not too bulky and nice feel overall.

idk how well it protects things as have yet to drop the phone. but feels like any other such bumper case i've had before.

u/KingElfTacoScatBarge · 1 pointr/blackberry

What this guy said. Great little device, but battery life is meh. I have a Classic and my SO has a Z10. We both use our phones a bunch. She gets on average 8-10 hours of battery life, and I get something like 16.

Should have added that if you get one of these: https://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-Battery-Charger-Bundle-Z10/dp/B00BMMQFBI battery life will be nothing to worry about anymore.

u/Bruce_Bruce · 3 pointsr/blackberry

Man, you have my condolences. The only issues I've had with my Priv was the USB port - over the 1.3years it got to the point where I'd have to plug it in and have it propped up by the cable for it to charge. I was able to get a new one despite it being out of the original warranty (which is another story i'll save until someone asks) and snagged a couple of wireless chargers - one for the car and one for my desk that i tote around and USB/headphone port covers

I haven't had any notable issues, other than the stated already, with either.

u/sirpedro83 · 2 pointsr/blackberry

I got the Avidet TPU... I want to call it a skin. It's thin and I can still put in my back pocket without any added bulk. I love this skin/ case whatever you want to call it. I'm a moderate to heavy business user, and never really have a problem with battery life. That said, I keep one of these plugged into my car outlet just in case. Swapable batteries are great.

u/WiFiForeheadWrinkles · 4 pointsr/blackberry

One of the most cost effective ways is just to grab one of these Q10 battery bundles. It's a bit of a hassle to just swap out the battery when one is depleted but it's sure is cheaper than a new phone.

u/aodash · 1 pointr/blackberry

worked beautifully for my Priv - I had one at home and at work.

You can order factory unlocked ones on Amazon. Actually, I take that back--they already sold out. But, you will be able to when they put more up.

The Priv has a massive battery. Anker makes some great quick chargers that really make a difference. I'd recommend one at work and maybe a portable quick charger if your messenger bag/purse/backpack/whatever you carry. The Priv also supports wireless charging, so if you want a wireless charger on your desk that's an option, just make sure you put a hefty charger behind the wireless pad. I use a dock instead of wireless. Seems more functional to me.

As a side note, I kitted my portable charger out with 2x USB-micro B cables, a Lightning cable, and a micro-B to C adapter. Got sick of iPhone people always being dead and me saying I've got power if you've got a wire. Got the C adapter just to be inclusive. Haven't needed it yet.

u/walkingjuxtaposition · -2 pointsr/blackberry

Dupe? The Passport is an absolute beast with the most evolved and capable OS on the planet, period. Here, read some owner reviews from Amazon. Or, maybe those owners have been duped?

u/greginorl · 3 pointsr/blackberry

Q10. It's been a while, but I think the double typing was mostly solved via a software update. (I'd have to dig through old forums but I remember experiencing it for a while and a build basically fixed it.)
Wear on the USB connector isn't a big deal if you buy the battery pack charger (https://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-Extra-Battery-Charger-Bundle/dp/B00BR1QHUS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1498092351&sr=8-3&keywords=battery+blackberry+q10) . You can always swap the battery in. While many android apps will have poor compatibility by todays standard, you should be able to get some social apps working.

u/eyaare · 2 pointsr/blackberry

I don't own a Q10 but I'm disappointed.

Unlocked Q10s are about $200.

A Classic is $450.

And took what felt like goddamn forever to release. Not that it's even out yet.

And doesn't have a removable battery.

If Classic was released at $250 unlocked, I'd be getting one. Hell, I think if Blackberry released a $250 unlocked Classic, they could get their name out there and market to people who aren't old Blackberry users.

Unsurprisingly I felt the same way about the last Bold. Same idea, a classic Blackberry that would probably be released as a prepaid phone by any other manufacturer, trying to sell at a full-phone price. The way Blackberry prices their phones (and the fact the used 9930 I ended up getting was an unreliable piece of shit) is why I'm still using Androids.
