I use this powder! I like it because it comes unsweetened so I can make it as sweet as I like.

I dont have exact measurements, but the way I make taro milk tea is with this powder, nondairy powdered creamer (traditionally user in boba shops to make "milk" teas), sugar and black tea. Play around with portions as you like, I think I started at 1:1 ratio creamer to taro powder. Pour that and sugar into hot black tea, stir, then pour over ice. If you have a drink shaker, you could shake the hot tea mixture with ice in that for a better iced result!

I worked in a boba shop for a time and based my recipe off of what I learned there. The "recipes" online are all pretty confusing and I never figured out how to make boba tea at home until after I had worked in a shop. You can follow this method for most milk teas. Hope this helps!

Quick cooking pearls (these appear to be on the order of 5 minutes) are generally less good.

http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G3I4R3Y has worked for me, plus free shipping! When shipped, quite some of it crumbles, though. Also, 6 cups water to 1 cup pearls is pretty necessary--otherwise you get, as one of the reviews says, melting/sticking to the pot.

(edit: and these are 35min boil, 20min simmer, and pretty foolproof. Any inconsistencies you get at the boba shop are probably... the boba isn't fresh or.. I have no idea.)

I think Lollicup uses the term “snow bubble”. It’s creamier than a slushy since snow bubble has milk, ice and flavored powder blended. I’d say milk tea is shaken, not a blended beverage.

As far as taro powder, I’ve tried the brand Bolle which I bought from my local Asian store. It’s pretty good. Definitely better to blend than mix for milk tea. Though, Lollicup gets their powder from Teazone .

Depends on what you have available.

I work at a tea shop, so there's a pretty extensive list of ingredients available to/necessary for us to make drinks, buuuut if you're just looking to have some cheap PMT, there are instant pearls and tea mixes that you can buy online or at Asian markets.

My personal favorite instant pearls are http://www.amazon.com/Wufuyuan-Tapioca-Pearl-Black-Net/dp/B00PLTLG4O/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1463340819&sr=8-3&keywords=boba

After you make the pearls, though, you're going to want to preserve them in a syrup which you can make with maple syrup and water; keep them in the fridge while your tea cools in there too. Otherwise the pearls are pretty much flavorless :(

You can have boba with pretty much any kind of tea, commonly jasmine milk tea, earl grey milk tea, or any fruity iced tea.

Hope this helped!

Amazon. Just search "boba pearls" or you can go to any Asian market in their drinks and snacks isle and you'll find other brands of boba pearls. Then use any drink mix or just plain jasmine tea, milk, and condensed milk to make milk tea. It's actually really easy and later after learning to make boba, you regret buying single $5 boba drinks cuz a pack of boba pearls is like $4, which can make like 50 cups of boba

I use a wide mouth mason jar with a silicone lid and stainless steel straws!

Matchbox Kitchen also has some options for lids or jar/lid/straw sets.
