A couple of quick housekeeping things to start:
***
My suggestion would be to break the book up by the parts of the season instead of just numbers of chapters. Just by the chapter titles we could do:
The lengths aren't really even (section 2 is 40 pages, section 3 is 80) but it's at least logical for the season. We don't necessarily need to have the same amount of time for each section.
I think we should try to do the first reading before the season starts. What about discussing the first three chapters on the 20th or 21st? I'll be traveling that week and won't be able to participate but it gives everyone time to get started and there isn't exactly a ton of text on each page so I think once people start reading they'll clear through 50 pages pretty quickly. Is that enough time? Too much? I'm just throwing a date out there.
Thanks for kicking us off. I've already loaded it up on my Kindle and hope people stay involved in this and participate as I think it could be a fun thing for the sub that could grow as we go along.
I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I recommend "Drive: The Story of My Life" by Larry Bird. However I would also check out "Then Russell Said to Bird..." because it covers stories from most of the Celtics era including the time period you're interested in. I haven't read that one yet, so I would check out the description before hand.

Ever Green, by Dan Shaughnessy is a good read surveying the Celts' history from the franchise's beginning to the closing of the Bird/McHale/Parrish era.
It was published in 1991, and even though it's out of print, used paperbacks can be had for like $4.00.
While I'm not the biggest fan of Shaughnessy, I remember enjoying the book. Some good anecdotes are in there, like when the Lakers demanded air conditioning for the visiting locker room at the Boston Garden for the Finals, they arrived to find three brand new window AC units in the middle of the locker room floor, unopened and uninstalled.
Which Top of the World book is it? Amazon is showing me this.
Here are links to the other ones (it looks like they are all available online):
They all look good, but Red and Me stood out the most to me. At a rate of one book every month, that would be about 25% every two weeks.
EDIT: Now that I've seen which book Top of the World is, I think I'd vote for that first. :)
I haven't read it, but I've hard really good things from some of my friends on this book about peak performance and "flow"

My father wasn't even from New England or around it - he just grew up watching Larry and loved the celtics.
I've gotten the same way and I still enjoy watching old tapes like these that my dad bought.
He even recorded games onto old VHS tapes that still work today.
Here are some DVDs to help you get started on your Homework:
NBA Dynasty Series: Boston Celtics
Return to the Rafters (This is one of my favorites)
Larry Bird: A Basketball Legend
Look up some youtube videos on Bill Russell, Bird, Pierce, Havlicek. Make sure to study up on Red Auerbach as well.
This was an enjoyable read. The same author wrote the Seven Seconds or Less book about the Nash/Amare Suns, which is one of my favorite books.
Sitting behind home plate with Gil and the rest of the ComputerLand gang and trying the old Joe Girard trick of tossing up a handful of business cards when everyone jumped up to cheer a home run. Believe it or not I did actually get a call and a sales prospect from someone who picked up one of my cards! (Who said these crazy sales techniques don’t work?)...

So for the book club, I'll make a post tomorrow but this is the book we will read. any suggestions for chapters read by a certain date?
Just here to suggest some more books:
Drive: The Story of My Life by Larry Bird
The Last Banner by Peter May
Unfinished Business: On and Off the Court With the 1990-91 Boston Celtics by Jack McCallum (I haven't read this one but I am a fan of McCallum)
Rebound by K.C. Jones
Also, here is a list of Celtics related books that I found on the team website: http://www.nba.com/celtics/history/publications.html
The NBA already produces an official documentary for every championship team after the season. Here is the 08 Celtics one. I don't think 30 for 30 documentaries are interesting if it's just about one championship season. It must have some kind of an arch or focused on a particular era. A "New Big Three" documentary about that whole era would be more interesting, and the later ramification it had on forming superteams in the NBA. It has a lot more ups and downs than just the one 08 season. KG's injury, Game 7 in the '10 Finals, Ray Allen leaving, Rondo ascending, 4 C's in the all-star game, Lebron's Game 6 in '12, Ray Allen leaving, Rondo's injury, the eventual dismantling of the team in the Nets trade. It's hell of a story arch, more intersting than just that one season.
> I’m gonna go back and look at it and definitely contact somebody to see what’s going on there.
