If you want MIDI at that price range you'll probably be looking at a USB controller keyboard. No on-board sounds of it's own, but can control software on your laptop or other MIDI devices. Something like the Korg microKEY 25.
if you want something with in-built sounds I can second the recommendation for the Casio SA-46, although you'll need a fairly large backpack to hold that and a laptop and notebooks. Amongst other things the SA-46 (and the other SA- keyboards) have the famous Sleng Teng riddim, originally found on the Casio MT-40.
Never played the Gakken, but for a few more bucks you can get the Stylophone Gen X-1, which has a lot more playability and functionality.
That said, I still want a Gakken!
