The G5 sports quick charging and Powerbear makes an extended battery case, which might help your battery situation. And fwiw the G5 customers I've run into say that the battery life is fine, and the GSMArena/PhoneArena tests use whatever software is out at the time (Marshmallow I think). The G5 is now running Nougat and that may have improved battery life.

Also if you need amazing battery life I'd raise the budget by $50 and grab a used Moto Z Play (not the Droid version). It has by far the best battery life of any Android phone and you can get extended battery mods for it to get 16 hours of SoT or whatever ridiculous shit /r/MotoZ users are pulling off. Plus the software is crazy well optimized so it runs nearly as well as the OnePlus 3/3T (though it can't keep as many apps open cause it doesn't have the 6gb of RAM).

You won't get enough power off solar to charge a power bank in any useful time - I have two of these (which I'm really happy with) and a 4 square feet solar panel would take hours to charge it in the best and sunniest conditions.

Initial Amazon reviews look good. Surprising since Amazon reviewers are usually pretty harsh on China phones.

If you're in the US I recommend buying it there instead of China-based stores (total $209 with 5% coupon + no sales tax). The seller is Umidigi's official store and I received mine in 4 days with Prime shipping. Can't speak for my own experience however, as I'm returning it unopened for a Mi 8 since I realized how much I value good Gcam and AMOLED display. But if you're not willing to pay an extra ~$180 for those features (and the loss of a headphone jack), the Umidigi F1 looks like a great deal.

I think it'd be easier to get a regualr tablet and then stick a magnet to the back of it - there's loads of inexpensive magnetic strips with adhesive on the back on the internet - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01DKEXNWY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_qolYAb7N48BPX
Seems like a good option from amazon :)

interesting, the amazon listings I've seen all clearly indicate in bold type at the top of the product name "NO WARRANTY" or this one - did the product listing you purchased also say NO WARRANTY or did it specify a 1 year manufacturer's warranty?

thanks

You think this is expensive? This is one of the best value/money tablets out there right now... I don't know if you can get better for under 200 unless you forget about getting a 16:9 tablet.

I'm back, I've searched for some rugged phones. Not all of them might have the 'Walkie Talkie' feature you talked about, but you can check that yourself if you want to. All phones are <300$.

Windows phones seriously lack applications. But if staying in touch is the only thing that she is going to be doing this might be a pretty good choice. And you are very right at looking at warranty. Another big thing is ease of use, which this phone has in spades. To get a better idea there are some good reviews on Amazon..

This might be a wise choice esp. if it gets lost or damaged. This price range/reliability is an android weakness.

Just to mention. The Essential Phone could be bought from Amazon US. Amazon global shipping organize taxes and everything during checkout.

Amazon Kindle Fire flashed with CyanogenMod in place of the stock FireOS.

If you have Prime, the tablet is rumored to be going on sale for $15 off on Tuesday.

Apparently the brown ones are fakes too - just better working ones.

I've submitted and escalated my dispute for a full refund of the pen.

Also, take a look at this, I think its the same pen.
