DIGRESS: You know, why the hell do I need my coworkers approval to order things? Really, sole purchasing decisions I shouldn't have to consult with you, if its a LOW COST HIGH RETURN ITEM. Specifically, following the EoQ model, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_order_quantity. Basically, if an item has a high margin, low cost, doesn't take up a lot of space, and is a generally demand item due to its intended purpose - why the hell do I have to consult you on this? IT doesn't matter if we order extra, its worse if you end up not having something due to the RFM model, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RFM_(customer_value) From Starbucks. Starbucks is known best for this model . Markups are significant enough that it doesn't really matter
You aren't my boss either. I only take decisions straight from the source
On a short term investment standpoint, you lose space, who cares, on a long term investment standpoint, you potentially lose clients from not having shit in stock. I see it in their faces. "Oh you don't have this item, I need the entire set, now I'm sad :(" . "Sorry I don't want this whole set of items because ones missing", can you return it?" . And hence, this is when you made someone shop elsewhere, because they had no choice. Granted, NULLDATA, no one bothers. Then they realize how much better service is elsewhere. I wish people understood this. We have so much space here, yet we don't carry all the important / critical goods (I can't remember all these definitions, gotta look back at NAW booklet)
I understand why we need to adhere to pricing rules, but its never that simple. Sometimes we have no idea what the fuck the price is because of our shitty systems. Sometimes clients just want to haggle all day, then they start keeping a giant fuss. Sometimes you have to do effective negotiation 101 because people aren't going to buy your shit unless you make it lower and make it a package deal. In most corporations, there is usually a head purchasing manager, and a head sales manager, who decides what to buy and what to sell at in different situations. No situations are the same, rigid pricing structures do not work in our business industry nearly as well as it should, comparitvely to the general, low consumer goods industry - even then they have "price match" schemas.
Then, you get texas sharpshooter'd - I get this constantly everyday, oh why did you sell this so low? Really, should be looking at the big picture here. We made a large substantial profit margin off other goods, because I apply the hockey stick model on pricing out goods. Our systems are shit. Might as well be flexible. Why bother with a rigid pricing structure if we don't have a rigid software system? Your solution isn't going to scale well at all, barcode tags 1 by 1 is extremely inefficient and won't be used to manage inventory. Most companies, in a LEAN perspective, do inventory checks on cycle counts once a month all in one go. Upon first inventorying, or re-worked inventory, its thoroughly counted all at the same time to get an accurate inventory, than the systems are placed online
We call these "phases". Implenetations at certain times strategically. Its very closely related to Industrial engineering practices and just standard business practices as a whole
I don't really want to be a dick or anything, but I do know what I'm doing, you just look at everything black/white. "Oh don't buy from that vendor, parts broken!" I don't think you realize how much shit I had going on around that time that I felt was way more important than some cheap part that wasn't urgent, granted a lot of that was me wasting my time writing my thoughts out, because it only occurs once for me really.. You also don't see things from the other company's point of view either, logistics is never that simple , yes I know package was broken on freight, but they do not necessarily need to honor any agreement if it isn't in their financial interest / customer loyalty/ liabilities etc
I seriously wish you understood that nothing is ever simple. You assume I'm an idiot and need-to-lecture me because of what you see at the surface level, like my purchasing behavior over time. "Oh why did you buy XYZ, you could've bought a $1.75 tape measurer at harbor freight instead of Amazon for $4!". But you don't understand, like in gaming/build making when i was a kid, most people look at 3 metrics, I am looking at 20+ metrics that people generally don't even look at it. Like all shoppers, I do look at VALUE = PERCEIVED BENEFITS / PERCEIVED COST
But this is where I differ than most people. Perceived cost sure, that's pretty standard across the border depending on the amount of money and income you make. For a billionaire, a $50,000 car is chump change, but for someone that was poor by birth, that's the equivalent of buying a house.
PERCEIVED BENEFITS is where I differ than everyone else. I don't treat anything as trash. I see value in everything [QUOTE1]. *You were raised on different principles, I learned to not take things for granted growing up, as I was not nearly as spoiled as you were. Even if the item looks like it has no instrinsic value, it has value. Specifically, here is the commonly defined PERCEIVED VALUE. Let's take an item, I've actually purchased. SAy this one . http://www.amazon.com/How-Google-Classroom-Computer-Technology/dp/B00JEH6XMO?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00. A how-to-google poster. Most people put it in classroom settings, I place mine at home
However, neither of these apply to me, the 2 most important usages here. So you'd think this is a total waste of fucking money, this $9, but its not. To an untrained observer eye at least. Specifically, there's the other 20+ metrics I am using that you have not bothered considering
