Yeah sure, the Samsung ones are really great. Price wise they go for more than a hard drive but are definitely worth it. This one here is going for around £88 new for 250GB ($130) but will be cheaper if you are buying in a already built PC.

The sales pitch is that SSDs are around 10x faster than regular hard drives. The reason this is useful is because DayZ has a lot of landscape and objects that are read directly off your drive every time they come into view. The faster the drive, the faster your game. It will also increase your FPS by a healthy amount. My game looks fantastic after upgrading and I was even able to run the game in full 1080 HD which was uncomfortable before (the FPS was too low for me to enjoy it).

Also DayZ is currently really processor heavy and doesn't necessarily rely on a graphics card as much as other games. This may change in the future however. I would suggest getting an Intel processor definitely with at least 3.0Ghz power or more if possible.

Since this is a laptop you are buying, I would suggest looking for one with an Intel processor (i5 if you can) with an SSD and a graphics card if you want. The Intel chip has an inbuilt graphics card which will run the game fine if you have an SSD but the game may rely on a graphics card more in the future so getting one could be a good idea in the long run.

This may cost slightly more but will run the game 10x better than the laptop you posted and you will be so much happier I promise. The Intel chip will also help you do everything else you need to do on the PC brilliantly and will last you a long time. Hope I've helped and see you Chernarus!

From one web designer to another, i tend to find that while it's nice to design for designs sake, with something like this you should be designing for functions sake. Things like the toolbelt bit on the left do admittedly have a charm to them, but they are unnecessary and end up looking a bit tacky instead.Same goes for the backgrounds on the different sections. a simpler background with transparency works much better for things like this.

Also, i'm struggling to really know which button i should be pressing to do certain functions. Is the red arrow bit a delete/drop button? If so, use tried and tested iconography. Stick an x in it instead of an arrow and stick it on the other side of the box in the corner so there's no chance of mistakenly clicking it.

The other buttons carry similar burdens. In the loot, you have a green tick and a grey arrow. Common sense and logic are telling me that the green tick is to put it in the inventory, and the grey arrow is to put it in the backpack. But then the same buttons appear over the coke can. The grey arrow still feels like it performs the same function, but now the green tick seems to embody a 'use' functionality.

Number one rule is "Don't make me think". You should read the book if you haven't already. It's very useful reading for web designers.

Aside from that, good first draft. I look forward to seeing your revisions after your feedback from the community :)

I just recently bought an SSD and I was fairly disappointed with the performance gains I saw.

Actual boot time I haven't noticed much of a difference if any at all.

From password screen to desktop is where I've seen the difference. With a 7200 RPM drive I was choking up for a good 15-30 seconds (start a program, takes foreveeeeeeer to launch) and this was with a bare minimum set of startup programs.

Loadup time on dayz has improved (~10s or less to ~4s).

That's about it. If you're looking for FPS gains/being able to set higher graphics your money could (likely, depending on your current build) be much better spent elsewhere.

If you're still interested, Amazon has a deal on a Samsung 250GB SSD for $140. As someone who always checks newegg daily sales, that is a great deal.

Realistically yes.

I read an awesome book which talks about this, though it's covers the broader hypothetical of what would happen if all humans disappeared from the planet tomorrow.

The World Without Us.

I bought this one - it works okay. It has a CD but I downloaded the .exe to configure it from the vendor.

It lets you program the pedals like they were keys. So Tab for left pedal, I put r for reload I think on the right pedal, I think shift-tab on the middle pedal (Steam overlay) but sometimes I change it up.

I just got really used to the wall wart for running.

Hmmm...

You seem like you need to learn some more English. I do not think your reading and comprehension skills are high enough to understand my comment.

Here's something for you

See, you say that I was trashing your thread, when I basically say that you are doing a great job even though others are saying you were shit. Then you go on to say something about trolls... No idea what you are saying.

Stop being a bigot. There is no need to get angry that you weren't successful. I can be annoying, but there is no need to get mad at others when you can't take the full fledged responsibility.

>I do know typically in development it's extremely bad to miss a deadline, especially one promised to your costumer base.

Worse is releasing a steaming pile of shit to your customer on the deadline. Late + functional > on time + buggy.

> in fact I think it should never have had such an ambitious release date to begin with

FSM help me, how many times has this been covered? The release date was for a different project (DayZ mod released as a standalone, vs DayZ the complete game which we will soon be getting). Goals change, the world moves on.

People see what is going on with DayZ and get mad because they feel they have been lied to. What they don't see is this same thing happening with EVERY game being made. They all miss deadlines. It's just they are internal ones. So you don't hear about it. With Dean et al. being so open, you hear about what would normally be internal release dates, which any project manager knows to take with a heap of salt.

Hell the last project I was working on was just completely scrapped, and management decided to slowly roll our changes back into the existing version. It happens all the time.

New rule for /r/dayz. You are not allowed to complain about release dates until you read The Mythical Man Month by Fred Brooks (fantastic read for anyone who wants to learn about software engineering and the software development lifecycle).

I read an interesting book about one of the deadliest seasons on Mt Everest called Dark Summit. It was pretty eye opening. Basically when you're up in the "death zone", the area that cannot sustain life due to lack of oxygen, you're pretty much already fighting for your own survival. Due to the incredibly harsh conditions, high altitude and low oxygen it is almost certain death to stop & try to help someone already dying.

Hell, even moving a dead body down the mountain is incredibly difficult which is why many of the people who died on Everest are still there.

Basically you have to make a choice, either leave the person to die or try to help them & almost surely die too. Many people die climbing Everest, everyone who makes the trip knows the risks.
