However, as for whether or not you can also use the Starter Pack with it, I don't think so. Most (possibly all) of those packs only work on accounts created with the pack, so you can't double-up on your friend's link with them.

Edit :: Is this particular starter pack the one you're talking about? It looks like you might be able to (emphasis is mine):

Unfortunately, as I've never used one of the starter packs, I have no knowledge of how to properly apply them. Hopefully someone else will come along who can provide better info on that particular aspect.

If sound quality matter to you buy headphones and a mic.
You will get better quality for your money.

If you want to spend the absolute minimum just buying a cheap mic (like /u/noNoParts recommended) is the best idea. Unless you want to produce video- or audiocontent with your voice there is no need to spend more money on a mic.

Concerning headphones I don't have much experience in the very low budget bracket. That said I've heard good things about the Superlux HD-681 for about 30$.

Amazon is also selling the EVE Online Core Starter Pack for $5.00 and the add-ons for $1.25 each.

That seems to be the way to go, now that Mad Orc is sold out.

Two things come to mind, I believe the issue you're having is the 2nd:

1. The address you're using must be a US one.
   
   
2. If you're trying to upgrade a trial account you have to purchase a starter pack and not simply gametime.
