I think I've actually read before that that's true, that a lot of companies want EXO but they're super expensive. I still wish they'd endorsed the actual lipstick chateau 와인빛 color during Lotto era lmao but overall I actually think they're doing okay in the endorsement category right now, between Nature Republic, the EXO Samsung phone that came out recently, Lotte, MLB, and the Korean Tourism thing (the infamous dubbed HAVE U EVER? ads). Those are all pretty big. Kyungsoo should definitely be getting a solo CF after the success of his drama, though, but I highly doubt SM will go there.
Anyway, to touch on your edits–they clearly hate the structure of most of the shows SM does create for them, and for good reason, because the way they're set up is mostly terrible. All kpop is about image to an extent, of course, but I think SM is very, very serious about controlling EXO's image. If you wanna take it way back, I remember that ABC (?) kpop special right after debut where Kris said that they basically can't say anything at all that isn't approved by the company, ever. I'd like to hope that it's not that restrictive for them anymore, but if they're already used to that, it makes sense that they'd be particularly stiff on their SM produced shows. So then we sometimes end up with these weird, super structured shows where the members kind of act like they've been given a school assignment to complete. And again, I'm sure every single idol show is structured and scripted, but you can actually feel the structure in a lot of EXO's shows, or at least I can.
I'm going into a tl;dr theory tangent now but I think people also forget that EXO was quite a "scandalous" group for a while, between the member departures and the dating stuff. I believe that part of the reason that that SM didn't do much for them in terms of promotion during that time was to a) avoid uncomfortable questions on shows, and b) deal with the group being in flux, because SM probably had a fear, if not prior knowledge, that other members were going to leave after Kris. So SM had EXO kind of lay low for a while. And then hey, probably to SM's surprise, they managed to maintain their popularity even without too much damage control or extra work on fandom building. So now that EXO is at a point where they're a senior group, people have mostly moved past the scandals, and they're still bringing in major profits, SM might feel like they don't have much incentive to actively try for them anymore. I mean, they're wrong, but I can see it.
They're probably just making EXO spend all their time practicing for EXOPLANET #5 tbh, tours are where the money is.
I feel like I've been super quiet around here lately.
Life is status quo for the most part. Mom's Parkinson's is getting worse... which sucks as you can imagine. Deep brain stimulation looks to be the next step. Fun times.
I got my set of travel bottles from Amazon for my AB stuff, so I won't be without my ceramides, cleansers, and sunscreen.
Still need to figure out what to wear. I'm leaning toward one of my bleach shirts from /u/BrigidAndair. Love those things.
