In the Great Crystal War, the forces of darkness were defeated. But they have regrouped and are now marching on the cities of Vana'diel. Create a Character and join the fight against an unspeakable evil. Each kingdom has its own storyline - as you progress you'll enter other kingdoms and interact wit...
The biggest challenge you're going to face is understanding character and gear diversity. This is a text-based game so there's a lot of typing out commands and making sure you're timing you're macros correctly etc etc.
In WoW you have one toon that wears one piece of equipment per slot while playing one class for the entirety of their duration. In XI you're going to have one character that can play every job with dozens of pieces of equipment for each slot (and you'll find the more jobs you enjoy, the more that gear just starts to pile up). You'll be doing lots of gear changes to optimize your attack speed, your weaponskill strength, and various job abilities - and those would just be the basics for melee jobs.
You're going to want the original game plus all the expansions and mini-expansions. You're going to want to find an Ultimate Collection Seeker's Edition... this can probably be found cheaper somewhere I'm sure. Monthy sub is $12.95 for 1 character, tack on an extra $1 for additional characters.
I have some friends who will be joining up in the next couple of weeks on the Bahamut server. I'll be going through aaaaalll the old content and getting them up to speed. Let me know if you'd be interested!

I bought this one to play at work when I didn't have customers, like I say, it plays ffxi, just not well. I plan on buying a slim gpu to add to it later, but right now I've just been lugging my Alienware A51m back-and-forth to work since it's my main rig now.
The one you originally posted seems fine but I would pair it with a cheap, low form factor gpu so your playtime will be more enjoyable. Playing with 5-19fps drove me crazy after a few hours.
Darkstarrdp - Asura
EDIT: Something like this card added to either the PC your looking at or the PC I bought would be perfect for FFXI, I'm sure they would run FFXI @ a solid 30FPS.

It's likely no longer published because of the low number of 360 players. Try getting a copy from someone you know, or used. You need the discs I think, but you can buy a PC copy for the CD keys.
Now that said... I would never recommend the 360 or PS2 version to a friend. If you literally don't have a PC, the $100 you're thinking about spending could go to a new one.
If you are looking to get all the newer expansions, check this link out.

You can just add the code to your current account to unlock everything. That's what I did. It also give two bonus items that help with lvling pre 30. And if you want to wait and make sure you will still enjoy FFXI as is, you can hold off and maybe catch the collection on sale. I was able to get it when it was $12.
Can purchase it via Amazon & Steam, at the very least. There is a monthly subscription and it's $11.95 then $1.00 per each character and another $2.00/ea. for Wardrobe 3 & 4*.
(*There are 4 Wardrobes in all, the first two you can get by linking a security token - hardware or software (Android or iPhone - excuse the lack of link for the iPhone version) - to your Square Enix account, which you should totally have anyway.)
Is it worth it? Hell yeah, I'd say so after having returned in June when I was gone for years. (You could always try a private server, although I know nothing about them and I plan to keep it that way since while I loved the ToAU-WotG era myself, I love how the game is now.)
The last "ultimate collection" was Seekers of Adoulin, and was only available as a physical copy for XB360 for $200 USD.
I've searched for as many of the game boxes as I could on Amazon, you might find them at your local game store. Hope this helps get you started.

Assuming you still know your S/E ID, POL ID, and associated passwords you can simply torrent the ISOs for the discs and install from those. The CD keys/Content IDs are tied to your account, so simply installing and logging in will give you access to the game.
Torrent: http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/5179164/ [basically just google "ffxi iso torrent" and pick your preferred tracker]
If you are completely without any ability to get back in to your previous account then you need to buy it. If you can't get it from Steam then there is always Amazon or direct from S/E's site.
Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XI-Ultimate-Collection/dp/B004V9QC80
S/E: http://finalfantasyxi.com/
If you can't find somewhere online that will sell you a copy because of the country you live in you'll need to find someone you trust that can buy it for you on Steam and email you the CD keys.

Amazon and Gamestop are running 10 dollars cheaper for a download than Steam.
Edit: I 100% forgot that FFXI has a free trial. http://finalfantasyxi.com/freetrial/

Always good on Amazon.
Yes, you want the Seekers Ultimate Edition. It's basically impossible to get cheap now, even used (meaning you'd have to buy a new content ID if you didn't have one already).
You'll also probably want to get a chatpad.
PS2 controller via a Super JoyBox 5 Pro. Mouse should absolutely not be used with this game. It is keyboard-only or controller+keyboard, and if you set keyboard in-game to Compact, you can customize your controls.

FFXI launched on Steam with the Abyssea Collection, which had the first 4 expansions and all 6 add-ons. Seekers Collection updated later, and is automatically half price for anyone with the Abyssea Collection on their account. There was no edition on Steam that just went to Shantotto Ascension.

Here's an amazon download for just seekers $19.99, haven't personally used amazon but should be fine I'd imagine.
I play it from time to time on the xbox, usually when I just can't stand sitting in my office chair and I want to play on a bigger screen. The only real downside I have to it, other than some issues I have with a keyboard I have to hook up to the 360, is that the initial load-time from POL to the FFXI client takes a bit longer than I would like. The other issue would be that some people might be used to pressing the xbox button in the middle of the controller to go back to the dashboard. That's a big no-no with ffxi. I haven't done that myself but I heard it can f-up the install on your 360, and I find that it takes ages to install and update for some reason compared to the PC.
If you happen to live in Canada, you can get it from here for about 17 dollars or so.
I was going to make a complaint about how I'm not using the 360 version primarily because all of my macros are on my PC and it would be a headache to type it all back into the 360 version but as I was writing that as a negative, I actually googled it and what do you know, You can save your macros to playonline's servers and restore them to a different platform.
This. changes. everything.
Amazon is selling it for $30.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AWEMODK
It's also available on Amazon for the same price ($19.99 US)
https://www.amazon.com/FANTASY-Ultimate-Collection-Seekers-Download/dp/B00AWEMODK/
While Steam wont work, you should be able to purchase via Amazon? http://www.amazon.com/FANTASY-Ultimate-Collection-Seekers-Download/dp/B00AWEMODK
$30 for all: http://www.amazon.com/FANTASY-Ultimate-Collection-Seekers-Download/dp/B00AWEMODK
Or you can wait for a sale on Amazon or whatever. It has gone as low as $9 before, but has dropped twice to $20. http://camelcamelcamel.com/FANTASY-Ultimate-Collection-Seekers-Download/product/B00AWEMODK?context=browse
Probably can get it on sale on Steam cheaper and more often. https://isthereanydeal.com/#/page:game/price?plain=finalfantasyxiultimatecollectionseekersedition (looks like you missed a sale for $9 by 9 days)
I assume the wireless card is connected to a PCIe 1x slot? You could get something like this, and see if you could reorganize the devices in your machine. I know in my towers I usually have extra space, just am limited by the positioning of the actual PCI slots on the motherboard.

This is where I got mine-
Amazon FFXI
Don't know if that works in your country though.
That's why I bought this:
