Aw shucks is correct. The app u/instantbitsapps made called web video cast is excellent. I'd love to see it on iOS. Very active Dev updates the app frequently.

iOS options:

The FireTV Stick (and Chromecast, for that matter), generally have to play back content that's stored someplace else.

That might be a service like Netflix, or it might be off your phone, via an app.

Plex allows a computer that you control to act as that source-- you install the Plex server software on there, then tell the FireTV stick to get content from that server.

One thing to be aware of is that the computer where you install it has to be somewhat powerful, as the Plex app on the FireTV stick won't convert the video for you.

A somewhat simpler solution is Vimu Media Player- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JZXJNNS?redirect=true&ref_=kinw_myk_ro_title

To use that, you just have to share a directory on your computer (or laptop), then install the app on your FireTV stick. When you run the app, you point it at the shared directory, and it just plays out-- the computer or laptop doesn't do any work other than to spit out the file.

The Plex interface is much fancier-- it will pull down the theme sounds for TV shows, grab synopses and posters for your content, automatically group stuff by show and season, etc, whereas Vimu just shows you a list of the files.

But since Vimu doesn't require anything other than a directory to be shared, it's a bit more straightforward to set up, and you don't need to worry about if your computer or laptop is up to snuff.

Vimu also seems to be better than Plex at dealing with surround sound & multiple file formats, but I gave up on Plex quite a while ago, so I don't know if they've caught up or not.

For $2.39, Vimu might be worth the experiment to see if you like it and if it's playing your content.

Thanks appreciate the feedback.. Funny you say all that because now that i spent a little more time on research i found the Amazon remote app. Also found a 3rd party app (wukong remote). Do you have any experience with that one? I will try tonight when i get home from work. Wukong remote even has a quick launch for apps!!!
Was considering this (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BALK9CM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_2&smid=A1VCRDPIX0NQ5B) remote, but will hold off til i try amazon remote and Wukong Remote.. I will keep you posted if interested....

Thanks again for taking the time to reply

You need to use mouse toggle to help with this.

Mouse Toggle is not easy to see, but you can make it work. When you get the config file page, start at the upper right. Get there by hold the the up and right on the directional pad for about 5 seconds. You have to play around with this until you see a selection light up. Once you can see that, work your way to the menu on the left.

I suggest installing Total Commander as that may help with any permission issues on copying the config. I was able to make it work a few times last week on a few more firesticks. Thanks to Alex from this post.

Hope this helps. I have done about 15 firesticks now. It can be tedious to work with Mouse Toggle, but it gets the job done.

You want something that attaches to the remote. I used to use this:

Sideclick Remotes SC2-FT16K Universal Remote Attachment for Amazon Fire TV Streaming Player https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRFY61G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_rzuCDbM3WN49R

Works great and doesn’t add much space to the remote.

I'd get a bluetooth keyboard that has a trackpad built in also. If you can't click into the box you need to do the typing, it's a moot point. The trackpad lets you get a cursor on screen and point/click wherever you want. Another option is using a remote mouse app and then you get mouse and keyboard functionality from your phone. It's a good option for rare use cases. You don't want to return whatever device you get, because a lot of these apps log you out after a certain amount of time and you'd need to be able to enter your password again in that case. For $2 look into this. http://www.amazon.com/Remote-Mouse-for-Fire-TV/dp/B00S4MU62I

8 Gig is not too shabby. You would think they could do a better buffering.

I have used that one in the past. Although it's more expensive, I prefer this 5 port one (it comes with a remote too) https://www.amazon.com/Kinivo-501BN-Premium-wireless-adapter/dp/B0049SCB2Y/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1467222331&sr=1-8&keywords=hdmi+switch There's also a cheaper 3 port one as well

If you go to this link while signed in to the same account on a computer, does it allow you to install on the stick?

u/TheMediaAcct · 1 pointr/firetvstick

I'm not saying get this one, if you travel frequently you might want to consider one of these.

I know this does nothing for your current situation, sorry.

u/jtonzi · 1 pointr/firetvstick

You can't connect them both at the same time.

You could get the cable I mentioned above and this cable and then you'd be able to swap the two at the HDMI input.

Edit: If you don't want to swap cables around, you can put something like this in there to switch HDMI inputs

An OTG "Y" cable with a Flirc connected to it works with the Fire TV Stick 2 and lets you use any IR remote to control it. I fully expect the pendent Fire TV 3 to work this way as well. Remeber though, you'll need the Flirc sticking out of the front so you'll likely also need a USB extension cable.

This only works with the Fire TV Stick 1 if it is rooted because OTG is not enabled by default.

CABLED MOUSE AND KEYBOARD WORKS WITH FIRE STICK!!!!!

If anyone ever find this, it seems there is no big problem if you just put in an cabled USB Keyboard/mouse into the stick via OTG Cable and/or a USB HUB.

I just did put an random cabled Keyboard/Mouse(5€) into the hub/OTG and it worked, the mouse did took some minutes, or i had to restart the stick, before it worked.
I have not tested much arround if how good it works in all the apps.
Only Problem so far, there seem to be no Home or Return Key Combination, while im in an app, i have to use The TV Remote, or Stick TV Remote for that so far.

The HUB also worked with mouse/Keyboard and LAN connected at the same time, cause there can be problems if there is not enough power from the FIRE STICK TV Power supply.

I USED THIS CABLE

AND THIS HUB
