That Ubuntu includes nonfree software has nothing to do with whether it’s okay to sell GPL software. (For what it’s worth, Ubuntu ships those firmware blobs for the purpose of increasing the number of people who can run Ubuntu on their computers at all. Better that than being stuck on Windows.)
I’m not a lawyer and I’m not speaking for Canonical, but I think “Ubuntu’s trademark policy prohibits commercial redistribution of exact copies of Ubuntu” is just plain wrong. From the trademark policy: “Canonical grants permission for anyone to mirror or redistribute unmodified Ubuntu installation images, Ubuntu software packages, and Ubuntu package archives.” OSDisc and DVDxDVD are two examples of companies selling Ubuntu installation images.
