There are a lot of benefits to standardizing on using ONLY AA batteries. From the r/AAMasterRace sidebar:

> If you have only AA batteries and you want 10 spares, you only need 10 spares and 1 charger. With 15 different batteries, and 10 spares of each, you need 150 spares and 15 chargers. With AA you can carry it all in your pocket.

There is almost never a good reason to choose a less common, more expensive battery type. Even then, there is almost never a good reason to choose a rare battery type that isn't AA-compatible. Again, from the AA Master Race sidebar:

> AA-compatible devices can include AA, AAA, AAAA, C, D, F, 14500, 18650, 26650, 32600, 32650, etc.

If you don't have rechargeable AA batteries yet, I recommend you get these ones:

Well, i did some more digging and i think i could use one of these Honeywell replacement connectors (link) and a canibalized 40mm gas mask hose to make said adapter. Largest concerns would be:

  • how well any adhesive manages to seal the two together

  • Finding an adhesive that would be safe to use in this application

  • making it so the adapter can be gripped well so you can put it in easily.

To add to u/King_Creepalot, though a military surplus mask and filter would work for you, I would suggest something more like this with these filters.

These are commonly used in applications like painting and shop work. Though a military surplus mask would work, that might be overkill as those are designed to deal with everything from tear gas, to chemical weapons, to biological agents.

The big benefits here are:

  1. Milsurp filters can often contain dangerous chemicals and require through research to make sure they're safe for use.

  2. These light use masks are a lot cheaper and lighter.

Only real ways to do that is to get a mask with a voice diaphragm, or get one of those Halloween voice changer things and run the microphone into the mask. I know people will do that latter with the PMG and this sort of voice changer for HL2 Metrocop cosplay.
