Just curious, Is it the Mockingbird Masterpiece?
Anyway, personally i love my Mockingbird it plays great fretboard is definitely great for speed playing sweeping (not that i can very well lol) etc. , the guitar itself is quite heavy but thats because mine has three pieces put together (neck through design) but i could play it for hours.
I did come from a Jay Turser Les Paul copy which was extremely light so i could be just not used to it lol.
Best thing i suggest it go in, ask them to play it and try it out for about 30min to see if it feels right to you cause my opinion on it may be different then yours.
I've got these on it at the moment. They're 30-90, but I think 40-100 might actually be a bit better. However, the 30-90 set works great. It plays like a bass, sounds like a bass, but feels far more comfortable.
the next best thing
looks like a cross between a lute and a guitar. hybrid string instruments are fairly common. there are mandolin-banjos, guitar-ukes, etc. try any two, at some point someone probably made at least one.
i'd be surprised if it actually plays in tune though, judging from the missing frets it was probably intended to be decorational, as frets typically don't just fall out.
edit: and the base, that base makes me think "ornamental".

Amazon. Surprisingly hard to find one for HSS configuration with 3 screw adjustment for humbucker. Major online retailers did not have any. Only found OEM on Fender for $40, the rest were on Amazon, eBay, Reverb. Got this one for $11, looks to be the same quality as OEM. Link
