I like the filter swap idea. Did your master come with the filter cleaner adapter for the hose? If not, it is a plastic $5 part. Works perfect for cleaning filters, way faster than a nozzle attachment.

I think I bought something like this for a pH meter: https://www.amazon.com/Accuracy-Measurement-Household-Drinking-2020-Yellow/dp/B08197LX6H/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?keywords=ph+meter&qid=1574834052&sr=8-8

Just make sure to soak the meter sensor in distilled water for 30 seconds before you put it away.

Amazed at how cheap these are now. I am a science teacher, and meters like this used to cost five times that much just a little bit ago.

Happy soaking.

I agree with the other response you got pointing to the Pool / Spa forum. Trouble Free Pool forum is also a good one.

I will point out that the test kit they linked to doesn't include CYA tests.
This test kit does: https://www.amazon.com/TAYLOR-TECHNOLOGIES-INC-K-2006-CHLORINE/dp/B004BGF7TI/

the next step up from that is the king daddy kit that I highly recommend:
https://tftestkits.net/test-kits-c4/

Unless money is really tight, to yourself a favor and get this. You won't regret it:
https://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Stirrer-Speedstir-Start-Up-Batteries/dp/B004BGPC5W

Finally, these are very helpful in understanding the state of your water, and what you should do to get it in range if it is out of range:

https://app.poolcalculator.com/

or if you want a mobile app, install "Pool Math" by Trouble Free Pool (TFP).

I think you're right to do it as cheaply as possible (while getting the features you actually care about). It's not a financial investment, but it is a quality of life improvement.

So re: salt system. I'm ALL ABOUT salt now with my above ground pool (and my previous inground pool at my old house). I'm adding the Saltron Mini Salt System to my existing Masterspa. It is $240. Plus like, $2 of salt. Admittedly, you have to take the little generator out when you use the tub... but that's sooooo much better than having to remember to add chlorine every week. Also going to be adding boric acid to get my borates to 40-50ppm.

It is way easier than you are making it out to be honestly. We bought one about 3 yrs ago and I was in your spot and I seriously got it dialed in really fast. This is what I use to test water every couple days:

https://www.amazon.com/Hot-Spring-Freshwater-Portable-Strips/dp/B00ASYBBWO

I would say here is great place to get questions answered honestly but there is also some forums too. Don't let chemicals scare you it is really easy to do you will see and will look back and say why did I even worry about it :)

You can buy/borrow a snake camera like this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073ZFC59R
Maybe that will help you determine where that pipe goes? Otherwise there are PVC leak kits that are better than flex seal:
https://www.amazon.com/3M-05206-Marine-Adhesive-Sealant/dp/B0000AY6DG/
Good luck!

Ours is sort of enclosed, so quite a few options, wall hooks, couch. Mostly we have them all stored on and in a grocery type trolley thing. Small, light and thin enough with wheels. Something like that might be an option to consider if you need the hight while in the tub, and want to have some levels to store more or other items.

Edit, I lie, not a grocery trolley, better search for vegetable trolley lol ... Something like this - Metaltex Siena Rolling Cart, Plastic Coated, 3 Baskets https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004DMZ9HA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_IS0YDbMXYVDDG

There will be other options like higher ones, 4 shelf , wood etc.

Try using a spa cleaner like Silk Balance Clean Start for a deep clean. It will flush out all the plumbing. Remove all pillows and filters, dump the whole bottle in and run the jets for as long as you can and turn the diverter valves periodically to really flush everything out. Wipe off the scum line, drain the spa and try using a shop vac on all of the jets to really get ALL of the water out, then refill.

Probably an easy fix. Drain it, get the new gasket in there, and use a silicone grease like this:

It sounds like since your alkalinity and pH are both really high you need to get that in check first. Here’s what I was taught and it works well for me.

  1. Add as much pH down as needed to get both pH and Alkalinity below the “ok” levels. Don’t worry about overshooting it. (For me, I need a full bottle of pH down - I use liquid form because it’s so much)
  2. Add pH up and alkalinity increaser to get to where you need.
  3. Add a bottle of pH Balancer to “lock it in” [pH balancer](Leisure Time pH Balance Plus Simple Spa Care Hot Tub pH Maintenance (45410A), 3 pounds https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000V8BUDC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Q0hQDbBXY6TT8)

My pH and Alkalinity levels rarely go out of range now, and it’s usually when I add additional water, because my tap water is so hard. Then I just repeat steps 1-2.

Want to make your tub even more therapeutic? go salt water? usually between 2500 and 3000ppm about the same salt as what is in human tears. then use a chlorine generator . it creates small amounts of Chlorine gas from the Chloride in Sodium Chloride (salt) and then after it sanitizes it turns back into salt. no buying chlorine granules, you just drop it in your tub when you leave. I use this generator https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005QC5UZ2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

also when you go to fill your tub put one of these on the end of your tub https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0024E6V30/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I rarely have to add any chems to my tub just about once a month adjust the PH but that's it . I used to have to reset my tub (empty and fresh refill) once ever 3-4 months . now i do it once every 6-9 months and that's just because. I could probably go a year without any issue.

Before you drain. You pour in a hot tub purge and run the jets for a while. Then drain. There are other brands, but we use Oh Yuk

Yes, check valves etc. It was a definitely a unit "death" as after 7 months, my hot tub breaker kept flipping and by process of elimination, it was the Ozone generator causing the problem. Disconnected it and no more breaker flips. Connected it again, breaker immediately flipped. Spoke to manufacturer and they said that means it's dead.

And yes, I meant flow switch (the little reed sensor that's inline with the flow). Right after that, there's a little port. Why is that wrong? it's literally in my spa hot tub manual as the point of connection?

What is that port for?
