I was using the ESR Clear Soft case that I found on slickdeals for $2. It was mostly fine, but the fit really bothered me. It was too flexible and loose on the edges which allowed dust to get underneath it constantly and I felt that there was no way it would withstand a drop.

I also had the VRS Crystal Clear Heavy Duty case which again, I got for under 2$ on slickdeals. This is a beast. Really sturdy, but it is HUGE in my opinion and literally made my hands sore from using it (my hands are on the smaller side to begin with).

Finally, after much research on the ideal case: sturdy, slim but seems like it could withstand a small drop if needed, I ended up with Apple XR clear case. My goal was to stay under $20 with a case, and of course this thing retails at $40. I was able to find an open box excellent case from Best Buy which cut down the cost to $33.

I was REALLY hoping for a legit apple leather case, but it looks like that wasn’t happening. The apple clear case really is great though! It’s extremely sturdy (even a bit tough to take off) and it feels just worlds better in the hand compared to the other cases. It’s slim and comfortable though a bit slick. I only see a little air bubble on the sides, but I think they will go away. Buttons aren’t as hard to press as other’s made it seem.

My only issue now is stomaching the cost - $33 still expensive for a plastic case in my opinion. So time will tell if I hold on to it.

To be honest, I wouldn’t spend a whole lot. You can get a pack of cheap ones from amazon. There’s a store in my city that sells things for €1.50 and I’d buy my glass protectors in there and they would last and work as good as the ones you may see for 10-50€. I don’t think brand would matter here, clearly from my experience going for the cheapest I can find and having a good experience with them.

I first bought a Spigen Liquid Crystal case because it was cheap, Spigen is generally decent, and the clear case would show off my spiffy new red iPhone XR. The purchase was a mistake for two reasons. First, the TPU which Spigen uses seems to attract dust, lint, and skin oil such that it feels ... gross ... in my hand. I'm sorry for the lack of precision, but there's no better way to describe it. The Spigen case just felt a bit greasy, nasty, and gross. Second, the sides of the case turned yellow in about a month. Now, I know that all clear cases will turn yellow eventually, no matter what the manufacturers claim. But it should take longer than a month. I don't smoke, and I wash my hands frequently, so I have no idea why the case turned yellow so quickly.

My new case is the RhinoShield SolidSuit with a carbon-fiber backplate. So far, I'm very very happy with this case. Yes, it covers most of the red color of my iPhone XR. That's fine, I prefer a lower-key look anyway, and the red color does show a bit around the camera. More importantly, the case feels really good in my hands, looks good on the iPhone, and has some serious protective qualities. The buttons are very responsive. As an added benefit, I'm looking forward to tricking out my iPhone XR with the RhinoShield add-on lenses.

I'v had iphones since the 4S and never used one but have heard that with screens getting harder they are scratching easier. So I got my first one for my Xr and it is pretty nice. I use the EZ FIT from Spigen with their Liquid Air Case. Fits perfectly and you don't even notice that you have a screen protector installed thanks to the case.

I just ordered this one and it's fantastic. Super clear so the true color shows nicely.

i mostly use my Spigen Liquid Air due to the slimness of the case yet it still offers pretty good drop protection. if i’m going somewhere where there is a greater chance of me dropping my phone, i’ll switch it to my Urban Armor Gear Pathfinder. Not a bad case at all, i really like the squared off edges. just a little too bulky to be an everyday case for me

It fits great, and looks great. I had this brand on my 6s when i dropped it a year or so back. It saved my iPhone screen when hopping out of the car falling face down on concrete. I shattered the protector, but it saved my screen.

Update #2: I decided to try it anyway and bought a Qi compatible wireless charger. With the metal plate at the bottom of the phone (or case), it still charges. Win win.

The spigen liquid armor is pretty much the only case that I've used across several iphones and androids for the past few years. I highly recommend. They also have a dark muted blue one

Edit: however I do want to mention that depending on your environment you might get scratches no matter what you use. If you are in a sandy area, sand will scratch any kind of glass screen protectors out there.

After much research it seemed the clearest and slimmest case out there for the XR, and you can’t beat the price too!

A tempered glass back imho is the only option that would really show off our phone’s colors. It’s got raised corners too so laying it on any flat surface wont scratch the back.

I never drop any of my phones and all I need is dirt and scratch protection.
