My one bit of advise, skip the keyboard case and get a nice small bluetooth keyboard, and one or more cases of your choice. I've had several generations of iPads and a few Keyboard cases in my time. They are more expensive and have consistently broken on me. Of all the separate keyboards I've had, not one has broken, I've taken them with me between devices, and they've lasted years. You can buy far more or less protective cases, as you wish.

Just some recommendations:

The Microsoft is my favorite, but no longer available. the iClever foldable is my newest and I'm getting to like it quite a bit.

The only argument I can make for the 4G iPad is that it also includes GPS capabilities. If you want to use it for navigation, photography with geotagging, or any other location-dependent activity, you might want to consider it. It also grabs a slightly higher resale value.

The Pro gets you the Pencil, faster speeds, more memory, slightly better screen, larger sizes. If you don't need any of these, then no reason to get the Pro. The iPad can do anything a Pro model can do, except for hardware differences (Pencil compatibility and True Tone screen).

The iPad (any model) can handle note taking and basic office productivity very well. Apple's iWork apps are the "smoothest" and fit the iPad the best. But Microsoft Office is not far behind. Google's apps are shoe-horned to work with the iPad and the least "iPad like" IMHO. But since all are basically free to download and try I'd say give them all a chance.

I would recommend getting the 128G. You can't upgrade later and some day you may wish you had the space, especially for movies and the like. Transferring to and from the cloud can be a chore.

Not to sound like a prick, but I’ve typically shied away from the cheap-o $10 cases (I get that the Apple silicone case is overpriced, but it fits super snug and works really well). That said, I rolled the dice on this guy ($15 shipped at this time) and it’s solid.

It’s a bit softer than the Apple case, but still fits snugly and feels like it offers similar protection (I don’t need anything major; I just wanna be able to set it down without scuffing it all up). Holding the Pencil is a nice little bonus.

Fits well with the keyboard (apparently that was an issue with early versions of this guy, but it’s been fixed). Only tiny gripe might be that it’s a bit soft, especially around the thin parts like the speakers, but all in all, it’s great. Absolutely recommend as a replacement for the silicone case and you can keep your Pencil stashed now.

u/Shoelacess · 1 pointr/ipad

The original one does not, but the new magic keyboard does charge with lightning.
Its smaller and more solid which are great, but is twice the price.
Another one worth looking into is this one by Anker. It’s advertised to work with iPads and I’ve heard great things about it, though I haven’t had the opportunity to try it out myself.

u/DylanTheDonut · 1 pointr/ipad

Use the Apple Smart Keyboard with this case: KHOMO iPad Pro 10.5 Inch Charcoal Gray Color Case - Companion Cover - Perfect match for Apple Smart keyboard and Cover.

Greatest combo there is. The case matches the keyboard in color perfectly and just like the Apple Pencil compared to other styluses - there is no better keyboard for the iPad than the Smart Keyboard. It’s so well integrated and the keyboard is great (that said I wish it had a little less key travel and was a little louder but that’s just me). And that case is cheap and works perfectly.

u/AnneNonim · 2 pointsr/ipad

I recently bought an iPad but I need help choosing an inexpensive case cover. Which material is the best in terms of protection (falls, wear and tear)?

Option 1 : Hard plastic back

Option 2 : Soft TPU back

Option 3 : Soft TPU Bumper Edges with Hard plastic back

Actually, I'd rather not go with hard plastic as it may crack easily?

So, Option 2 or 3?

Pwease help, thank you!

u/TuhnderBear · 2 pointsr/ipad

I have this logitech keyboard that I like very much. It's only 30 dollars, and actually feels really nice (to me, very similar to the apple keyboards). I paired it with a belkin case, and I'm super happy. I didn't want to always have the keyboard attached to the ipad, and I'm fine with carrying two separate parts when I need to type. I also got one of those styluses with the clear plastic tips, and I've found that it's a great way to take notes and edit PDF's.

Edit: I should also note that the keyboard can connect to up to 3 separate devices at a time.

u/Mayormitch100 · 4 pointsr/ipad

I really like covers and cases from JETech. I have an iPad Pro 10.5 in cover that I bought from them and they started emailing me codes for free Apple Watch bands, and again later a code for a free iPhone X case.

Here is a link for the latest iPad 2017 model. It is only $6.99. I can vouch for their cases they are outstanding!

(I promise I am not a shill for them, just a really happy customer! [which seems silly that I feel the need to say this])

>I type a few essays for school every blue moon, but that's about it.

Do not underestimate the convenience of having two windows open at the same time. Yes, you can switch between Safari and Pages/Word/whatever with a swipe, but it gets old quick.

Also: you're going to want a real keyboard to type an essay. You do not want to do it with the onscreen keyboard. Period. If you're not doing a lot of typing all over the place (library, notes in class, etc), then I guess that means you don't have to get a tiny keyboard, which is good news for typing comfort.

I'd suggest either the Universal Mobile Keyboard from Microsoft (no joke) or the K480 by Logitech. Both of them are nice to type on while still small enough to fit in most bags.

u/Sshaawnn · 3 pointsr/ipad

These are from, but I’d think you should be able to find them:

ESR Clear Hard Case for The iPad Pro 10.5", [Perfect Match with Smart Keyboard] Slim Fit Back Shell Cover Compatible for iPad Pro 10.5 Inch(Charcoal Gray)

KHOMO iPad Pro 10.5 Inch Charcoal Gray Color Case - Companion Cover - Perfect Match for Apple Smart Keyboard and Cover.

u/DrCut · 1 pointr/ipad

The iPad cover is very nice. It's actually better than the one for the 9.7 (at least for me) since the magnets seem stronger. For the back, I got this case which is surprisingly good quality (iPad Pro 10.5 Inch Charcoal Gray Color Case - Companion Cover - Perfect match for Apple Smart keyboard and Cover. It has a very close color match to the silicone cover, and a similar feel ( although it's not silicone, the rubberized plastic feels very nice.)

u/techontech · 3 pointsr/ipad

Closest thing to what you describe:

Almost any angle hinge kickstand but no keyboard:

Another kickstand with keyboard, but not really a hinge kickstand:

Not kickstand, but the one that I went with:

I believe all 3 have been talked about throughout this thread, so if you search by their names, you can see how others feel about them (mostly positive for each one). I've been looking for one as well, though without the keyboard. Unfortunately, i don't think we have yet to have a stand that comes close to the fluidity of a Surface Pro hinge stand. I'm waiting to see if anything newer pops up in the fall (ideally hoping to see one with a trackpad). In the meantime, I picked up a Zugu case that has functioned pretty well.

u/JMowery · 2 pointsr/ipad

I picked up a $15 Moko one on Amazon for the iPad Pro 12.9". It works incredibly well and offers great protection at a low price. You can also show off the back of the iPad, as it's fairly transparent as well.

Here's the 9.7" one:

Seems to have tons of great reviews as well. I think it's worth it. (Note, it isn't compatible with the Smart Keyboard.)

u/Defeatedagain · 2 pointsr/ipad

The apple keyboard folio is awesome but expensive. If you don’t need/want it to be part of the case then this one is a great deal:

It’s Bluetooth, can connect to 3 devices, and has a 1yr battery life (8hrs/day usage they claim).

Edit: this is the same one recommend by u/EveryLivingLine above :)

u/UserName872 · 2 pointsr/ipad

I just picked up a pro 10.5 myself over the weekend. I wanted the same thing, more protection for the back to compliment the Smart Keyboard and something to store the pencil.

I ended up with these two and so far they’ve been great!

u/CaptInc37 · 1 pointr/ipad

I have already seen the JETech one and ESR from amazon, and they aren't exactly what I'm looking for, but they are pretty similar. It would be great if anyone has any other case ideas.

u/mrkhiggz · 1 pointr/ipad

I also got the New iPad 2017. Still not many options for keyboard cases last I checked. What I ended up doing was getting this case and this keyboard. Neither were very expensive so if I find a better solution in the future I won't feel too bad replacing them rather quickly.

The case has the smart cover feature where it will unlock or lock your screen when opening and closing. The plastic shell keeps it from getting scuffed and the front cover folds to make a stand.

I have also found it to be convenient not having the keyboard attached to the case actually. There have been times where I didn't want the keyboard directly in from of the iPad and having that flexibility over a "laptop configuration" is surprisingly nice. I don't take my iPad out of my house very often so far so the two piece thing hasn't been an issue for portability for me yet. Also, the bluetooth keyboard can be paired with iOS, Android, Windows, or Mac so if I do replace it for the iPad, I have other devices I could use it with.

u/Edge767 · 2 pointsr/ipad

I'll be going with THIS one. I use the smart keyboard and this will help protect the back and look like it belongs.

Currently, I use a beige smart cover on the back. It works surprisingly well on the back of my iPad with the smart keyboard on the front. I put it on the back only while it's in my bag.

u/cjohn4043 · 2 pointsr/ipad

I have this one and it's great. Definitely a great case if you want to save some money and not fork over an arm and a leg for the Apple cases.

u/nudoru · 5 pointsr/ipad

I just got on of these in the mail today and like it. Choose the cocoa color so it's warmer than the grey. But it works perfectly with the Smart Cover and keyboards. Has a good grippy/soft touch feel and looks nice.

u/wishfruitful · 1 pointr/ipad

I just got the $15 slim wireless one (batteries instead of rechargeable batteries) and I love it. The $20 one can be charged with USB. Honestly, it looks like Apple's Magic Keyboard and it feels pretty good for its price.

u/Multicheerios · 2 pointsr/ipad

Hi, I bought this one and it’s excellent, great fit and quality. Also bought this screen protector. Also excellent.

u/shakeanjake · 1 pointr/ipad

I went with this one by TomToc. Almost more like a slim laptop bag. It offers good protection and has soft insides but the main reason I chose it is that it has some great pockets. I want to be able to comfortably hold a charger in it as well, and many of the sleeves have little to no storags. New iPad Pro | iPad 2017 Case Sleeve, Tomtoc 10.5 Inch New iPad Pro | 9.7 inch New iPad 2017 | iPad Pro | iPad Air 2 Sleeve Carrying Case Cover Protec

u/repapap · 1 pointr/ipad

I've used an iPad+Magic Keyboard basically since this spring and I've loved it. I really tend to hate cheapo plastic bluetooth keyboards and the Smart Keyboard is sort of bleh. The keyboard cover is nice and props up the iPad at a pretty similar angle to the SmartCover.

The back cover is this one which acts as a very good replacement for the lack of an Apple branded Silicone Case. That JETech one from Amazon that someone else listed is also very good.

u/Felipe_Vieir4 · 1 pointr/ipad
I really like how thin this case is, it’s a basic 2 angle and cheap iPad smart case but the quality is great (and even better than I expected)

u/robeschi · 10 pointsr/ipad

I mostly use the Apple Pencil with Notability or LiquidText. I use Goodnotes a little. Some of my professors use Google Drive, so I need to use those apps from time to time. I also like Outlook for email, iBooks and Kindle Reader for different texts. Duet Display turns my iPad into a secondary screen for my MacBook Pro. I use Scanner Pro to turn all my syllabi and other handouts into PDFs. iStudiez Pro helps keep my schedule in order, and Quizlet helps me study. I use Affinity Photo for processing my Nikon RAW files ( I let my Adobe CC subscription lapse, I just don't find myself using my dSLR that much lately.) I also use a MIDI keyboard with Garage Band and Pro Metronome for piano practice when I don't have access to a real piano/piano lab/practice room.

I keep games and other entertainment apps off the iPad since I'm trying to study and don't want to make it any easier for me to goof off.

Case, Screen Protector, Apple Pencil sleeve, tether to keep my adapter on my cable, stand, keyboard, and holder for using my iPad as a second screen for my MacBook Pro. I also use Anker cables, charger port, and portable charger.

u/anchoriteburan · 1 pointr/ipad

I've ordered this after seeing this brand get good reviews from past iPad users who are also looking for the feel of paper.

iCarez [Anti-Glare] Matte Screen Protector for Apple 11-inch iPad Pro 11 2018 [2-Pack] Premium PET Film (Not Glass) Easy to Install with Lifetime Replacement Warranty

This will be my first iPad and pencil combo but I've played with the pencil in stores before. The plain screen is too smooth and slick for my tastes, and I've had good matte phone screen protectors before. Hopefully it will indeed do the trick.

u/vkoser · 3 pointsr/ipad

This case is very popular. I have it on my 12.9" pro. It's a little on the heavy side, but the functionality is really great with many angles to view and good protection.

The Muse Case - 2018 iPad Pro 11 inch (New Model) - Very Protective But Thin + Convenient Magnetic Stand + Sleep/Wake Cover - ZUGU CASE

u/sparksdls · 2 pointsr/ipad

On the inexpensive end of things and for occasional use, a separate Bluetooth keyboard can be a good way to go. I have too many to count, but I do like these two, both in the $30 range:

Very lightweight and backlit (its case/cover is removable):

Heavier, no backlight, great for desk, popular with a lot of users:

u/CantGoogleMe · 1 pointr/ipad

I got the version with a holder for the pencil and it's great. Good texture, fits well, and holding up great. My only complaint would be that the covered
powe and volume buttons are a little clunky to hit, not bad at all though.

u/Masta_Blastah · 3 pointsr/ipad

I use my mini for almost all of my school work. For math and science classes, I'll use Penultimate and a stylus to take handwritten notes. Never had a problem, and the multitouch detection works perfectly. For regular note taking I use this keyboard and Evernote. For the lecture slides, I just save everything on Google Drive and view them in there.

Personally, I think the smaller screen is perfect for all these purposes, and I've never had any problems with it. The only downside of the smaller screen may be handwritten notes, but I feel like it helps me keep things concise.

u/rThereAnyNamesOpen · 5 pointsr/ipad

I bought this one. The charcoal gray color matches the keyboard absolutely perfectly. Nice and slim, keeps weight down, and looks great. Also very inexpensive.

u/dephantom · 5 pointsr/ipad

This one is my favorite. Matches the Smart Keyboard perfect in terms of color and the feel of materials. Highly recommend!

u/akirakiki · 5 pointsr/ipad

Not the Apple keyboard but I use my iPad with Logitech K380 Multi-Device Bluetooth Keyboard – Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Android, iPad, iPhone, Apple TV Compatible – with FLOW Cross-Computer Control and Easy-Switch up to 3 Devices – Dark Grey

It is perfect, I’m sure the experience with the Apple keyboard will be as good...IF you already own one. I wouldn’t spend a huge amount of money on a keyboard if you don’t plan on using it constantly.

u/fernandizzel · 2 pointsr/ipad

Haha, it's nothing special. Well, actually the price is, $20 and it has ipad specific buttons like home and brightness. I'm very happy with it. Only complaint is that it's a little louder than I'd like when typing because it's so light and plasticky.

Here's the amazon description and link:
Anker® Ultra Slim Mini Bluetooth 3.0 Wireless Keyboard for iPad Mini 2 / iPad Mini / iPad Air / iPad / Galaxy Tab and other Tablets
by Anker

u/seslor · 0 pointsr/ipad

This is all you need. Get a smart case with it from Apple. Amazing case that I genuinely think about how happy I am with it on a daily basis.

Edit to add: You don't need the smart cover with the keyboard. The regular cover works perfect and adds virtually no size at all.

u/daroga28 · 3 pointsr/ipad

In that case maybe something like this would be a better option:

iPad Pro 10.5 Inch Charcoal Gray Color Case With Pen Holder - Companion Cover - Perfect match for Apple Smart keyboard and Cover

u/inyourfaceplate · 1 pointr/ipad

I use this on my 10.5 pro - best case ever. It is VERY light and holds the pencil at the ready. I've also used the 9.7 version - that one is great, too.

[Edit - had to link to the correct case - my first link was incorrect]

u/ripitandstickit · 7 pointsr/ipad

here is what I have been using. It's not a sleeve but it goes great with the smart cover or keyboard

u/klave7 · 1 pointr/ipad

I got the Smart Keyboard as I am trying to use it as a laptop replacement-ish. But I also just picked up THIS. If Apple ever releases a 10.5" silicone back I will probably get that as well. So far on Amazon all I've seen are transparent backs (that support smart keyboard) and I would prefer something grey or black.

u/box080809 · 3 pointsr/ipad

Amazon sells an Anker Bluetooth keyboard that is excellent.

It has a rechargeable lithium ion battery. I've had mine for four months and have only charged it once since delivery. There are probably better keyboards in the $150 plus price range but from what I could find after researching sub $50 keyboards this offered the best overall experience.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/ipad

no, like this one linked in this thread above:

It's just a little thing that bothers me. Surprised it doesn't bother more people. I returned my smart cover when I learned it had to be folded so that all that nice microfiber touches whatever gross surface I have it on. Why not have the durable outer layer touch the surface? Seems to make sense, despite the downvote on my perfectly valid opinion. Oh well.

u/lbcadden3 · 1 pointr/ipad

I just looked for something on Amazon with lots of reviews that averaged high. I got a case last year for my Pro, I didn’t like the two piece design of the Apple stuff but wanted something to cover the back when I went outside and laid it on the picnic table and such. Something similar to this

Once you find something you like the looks of you can probably find it on eBay for half price and free shipping. They will be listed under various brands, I got mine off eBay for under $10 about a year and a half ago, use it everyday.

u/PokeyRacer · 1 pointr/ipad

Just installed one of these yesterday and I'm loving it so far. Cuts down on glare and fingerprints and makes drawing and writing with the pen feel more like pen and paper. Take your time installing (I used the tape-hinge method). There's even dust removal tape in the package which worked awesome as I was slowly lowering the film down.

u/eericwhitee · 5 pointsr/ipad

Just bought this one about a week ago and It's pretty solid. Paid $12. It's a really sturdy case, and seems like a quality build all around. Its also pretty sleek so you don't bulk up your iPad too much.

u/senornachoman · 2 pointsr/ipad

This one:

Works amazing, cheap, and looks nice. The layout is identical to that of a MacBook, and has additional keys for home button, lock button, brightness and volume.

u/atomic92 · 2 pointsr/ipad

Best keyboard I have used so far is the Microsoft Bluetooth keyboard. I have both the older model that has the plastic cover/stand on the keys and the folding model. For the price they are fantastic.

u/InsaneNinja · 2 pointsr/ipad

I very much like the JeTech texture, fit, and feel.

And they’re insanely well priced.

JETech Case for Apple iPad (9.7-Inch, 2018/2017 Model), Smart Cover Auto Wake/Sleep, Black

u/jonadair · 1 pointr/ipad

An annoyance with the K380 is that Fn and control are swapped from the normal Apple layout. Otherwise I really like mine. There is a K811 that has the Apple layout but I think it's discontinued and crazy pricey second-hand.

Anker has a cheap rechargeable keyboard that's a bit like a cross between the two Apple Magic Keyboards. It has the form factor of the newer one but taller keys with more motion like the original Magic Keyboard. But real Magic Keyboard 2's sometimes go for about $50 refurbished on Amazon.

u/MHC304 · 3 pointsr/ipad

Check out the Zugu case. I have it and love it and I think it’s exactly what you’re looking for. It’s on amazon too. A little pricy at $60 but it is definitely worth it imo.

u/UnitedRoad18 · 1 pointr/ipad

Do yourself a favor and save the $$$$.

Bought this case and liked it. The cover is a little slack for what I want, so tried the apple smart cover. No joke, it functions 100% the exact same. The apple has a little better material, but that is it. I was shocked and returned it to apple the next day. Not paying $50 for the same functionality of a $10 case...its honestly shocking apple offers that shite. Yes, its sized to work with the silicone case, but there's another $70. $120 for both, or a $10 case that will do basically all of it.

u/TarHound · 3 pointsr/ipad

I use the Zugu Muse case for the 12.9" pro, but it comes in a 11" model too

It has many viewing angles, and supports the Apple pencil. It provides very good protection and feels very sturdy. I have no fears of bending my iPad when protected by this.

Only thing is I feel like the screen more quickly gets dusty because the felt touches your lap/table/whatever surface you place your iPad on when using its viewing angles.

u/jariete · 1 pointr/ipad

I bought the [Tech Armor] ( brand. It's anti-glare and protects from the potential scratches by the pencil, but most of all the matte finish feels excellent with the Pencil. It's not quite a paper texture, but it's a lot smoother and less awkward than drawing straight on the glass.

u/jonter19 · 2 pointsr/ipad

I plan on purchasing an iPad on black Friday as well. Here is the case I ordered. I've used them in the past and they are great.

u/DaNewChamp · 2 pointsr/ipad

iPad Pro 10.5 Case, JETech Case Cover for the New Apple iPad Pro 10.5 Inch 2017 Model with Auto Sleep/Wake (Black) - 3052

I clipped this a tiny bit on the bottom to make room for the whole Smart Keyboard magnetic strip. The cover just peels off easy too. Works good for me.

u/nbtxdude · 1 pointr/ipad

I got it's brother for the pen support:

Arriving this weekend.

  • the bonus - it hides the apple logo. :)
u/EspressoKilla · 1 pointr/ipad

I bought this Khomo Charcoal Gray case from Amazon. It's only $12.95 shipped with prime.

It matches the Smart Keyboard cover almost exactly. And I mainly wanted a back cover to help protect the camera lens that sticks out. I already scratched my desk at work when I dragged it as I picked it up. And when I take the keyboard cover off when using it at home, it still provides protection and some grippyness when holding it.

u/Sunflower-Samurais · 3 pointsr/ipad

Just got this and I’m really enjoying it, gives some texture as well, which I like.

u/peacefulconflict · 1 pointr/ipad

Though it might not have everything you're looking for, I have been using this case since I purchased my iPad 3 in late April. For US$13, it cannot be beat. I love it, it's of pretty good quality, and I highly recommend it.

u/timconradinc · 2 pointsr/ipad

idk about 'best' but I use these. I haven't had any problems with it, but I haven't tried to remove it.

I would certainly recommend a protector of some variety with the pencil as I had some small scratches in the glass that had to have been from something on the tip.

u/13489194 · 5 pointsr/ipad

this is what I ended up getting after wasting money on a "strap"

Works with Smart Keyboard perfectly. I got a more expensive strap that goes around the Smart Keyboard and it's useless compared to this case.

Highly recommend.

u/mad_bramble · 3 pointsr/ipad

If you already have cases you like, Amazon & Staples sell these little Apple Pencil cases that can be attached to almost any case. I believe one brand is called Moko and I think Amazon also sells their own version under the 'Basics' brand.

Something like this:
or this:

u/Neuroneuroneuro · 1 pointr/ipad

Rather than having a case that includes a holder (still a bit hard to find for the new 2018 non-pro iPad), I went with separate case + holder and got two very cheap things.

This case which is actually pretty thin and nice (magnets work, good texture at the back) :

And this holder that I can fix on the case flap without causing any functionality problem:

u/mj_turner · 2 pointsr/ipad

I have the Khomo - very happy with it, with the Smart Keyboard.

u/Orbmiser · -1 pointsr/ipad

Amazon has half-shell cases.

KHOMO iPad Pro 10.5

Just scroll down from those links and all kinds of half-shells.

Many still allow using smart keyboard cover if so desire.

u/Samcroreaper · 2 pointsr/ipad

I have this one:

It's slim and does exactly what it says it will. I don't have much faith in the plastic around the edges though. I will be replacing it with this once it's in stock:

I've had this same case from Khomo on my iPad Air 1 and Air 2 and never had an issue. It's built from a nice rubberized material on the bottom that is comfortable and has never broken on me.

u/DArthurD · 1 pointr/ipad

I the apple pencil storage is optional, I have one of these:

Cheap, protects both front and back, and it fits perfectly.
Also, it's not bulky.

u/ItsDarts · 1 pointr/ipad

I use to think this too until I found the Tech Armor Anti-glare/anti-fingerprint film screen protector. It has the least amount of rainbow/moire pattern and it only took a short while til it’s not noticeable. It adds friction but still not quite like a pencil and paper but more like a quality ball point pen. I’ve been using this for 3 years and latency is not noticeable by me. Hopefully, u/Amysticalalliance sees this as well.

u/flexi_led · 1 pointr/ipad

The only thing you need to look out for is to check the charger does PD @ 14.5/15v 2A (same as their 1st party charger). It won’t do fast charging via different voltages.

Take a look at the specs for any chargers as some support particular voltages and not others.

This Anker 30W charger one looks fine:

u/icouldntremembermypw · 0 pointsr/ipad

I have this one and it sounds similar. I've had it since the iPad 3 came out and it's held up great. Has the sleep/wake feature too which is nice, some of the lower end 3rd party cases lack that feature.

u/cmoses78732 · 3 pointsr/ipad

I got this case from Amazon. I think it is the closest thing to the missing Apple cover. I got the Midnight Blue one. It works well with the Apple Smart Cover and the Apple Smart Keyboard.

u/pibroch · 3 pointsr/ipad

It’s actually really nice because it’s soft and bendable - it doesn’t take a lot of force to apply or remove. The pencil stays in really well. It’s grippy but protective and again it works with the keyboard case. I like it a lot.

u/pwnedkiller · 3 pointsr/ipad

I got this cover for $9 and some change open box it works fantasticly and is very study along with perfectly blending in the with keyboard cover. Their is a open box right now though amazon warhouse for $8.

u/skeeterou · 2 pointsr/ipad

I got this one and absolutely love it. Front and rear protection!

u/justinlowery · 1 pointr/ipad

I don't use it with my Mac, I have two other keyboards that I use for that. If you want one that switches back and forth easily, try the [Logitech K380] (, which is a multi-device bluetooth keyboard with dedicated buttons to switch to each paired device. It's one of my other keyboards that I use with my iPad, iPhone, and Mac.

u/Blodoern · 1 pointr/ipad

One screen protector i've been looking at is the Tech Armor:

Judging by the reviews it does seem like a very good candidate. Has anyone here tried it?

u/iMau5 · 2 pointsr/ipad

I have this case for my Pro and I love it. It's relatively thin but protective and the foldable cover works well, I've had it a couple months and no complaints with the quality. Feels great.

u/XeraanTruss · 2 pointsr/ipad

You could use the normal Smart Cover, but I've been using this:

Slim and protects the iPad on the front and back, which was important to me.

There's also this: but it doesn't protect the iPad, just the keyboard.

u/jrock2004 · 2 pointsr/ipad

I just got mine as well and I use this one

Its nice but will only allow it to stand in landscape. The case is not heavy

u/nomosecrets · 2 pointsr/ipad

I love the cases on my iPads. I love how minimal it is yet protective. (Although not super protective) I have this stand but I’d prefer this stand but I haven’t been able to talk myself into a $30 tablet stand.

u/shortymcsteve · 2 pointsr/ipad

I just bought this one from JETech and it feels pretty solid!

u/gglidd · 2 pointsr/ipad

Adapter only, but I also got a nice braided USB-c to lighting cable for $9.

u/bradleygkv · 1 pointr/ipad

I purchased this screen protector for mine. I used the same brand on my 10.5" and it felt very smooth and did a great job preventing smudges/fingerprints. It does add a grainy texture to the picture though.

u/straydog13 · 1 pointr/ipad

its noticeably different, but not jaggy or anything, doesn't ruin watching movies or anything for me - you get used to it in a day or two. the screen protection and feel of drawing is absolutely worth it in my mind. got it here

u/smalls1652 · 3 pointsr/ipad

I use the Smart Keyboard Cover with no screen protector or case. I have like one scratch on the screen and it's hard to notice unless you actively look for it. I have a sleeve for it too.

u/CastleBravo99 · 1 pointr/ipad

I'm in the same boat, I've got the Air 3 and I want to use the Apple keyboard but also have protection for the back. Searching this sub, I found this case:

Looks like it is exactly what I'm looking for, and even provides protection when you take just the keyboard off.

u/parkerlewis · 1 pointr/ipad

I've been happy with the generic AmazonBasics tablet stand for around 9 bucks.

u/Vagabondleon · 3 pointsr/ipad

I ordered this one last month and it has been wonderful

u/Ragazzimus · 1 pointr/ipad

I have the same fears and doubts. Most cases seem to be extremely fragile on their own, let alone with an apple pencil attached/wirelessly charging. I'm currently looking at the SUPCASE UB Pro Series and the Muse Case.

The muse seems great to work with, but seems to lack protection.
The SUPCASE seems to have great protection, but kinda unbalanced when standing.

u/tubezninja · 5 pointsr/ipad

Not really. Maybe if you jailbreak. But you're probably better off just getting a cheap Amazon Bluetooth keyboard and using that.

u/GoldenC88 · 4 pointsr/ipad

Not exactly what you have pictured, but I use one of these: Amazon Basics Tablet Stand

I tutor virtually using FaceTime and Skype, and I need very precise angles based on what I'm presenting. It can adjust angles as close as a few degrees at a time. It is very compact, portable, and inexpensive. It can hold an iPad at a vertical angle if you use a Smart Cover to counterbalance.

u/Nikontos · 7 pointsr/ipad

This one hands down. I've used it for a year and a half now with no problems. I just throw it in my school bag everyday and I've been impressed at how durable it is even though it's just plastic. It's also slightly wider than the iPad, which I like, because every other iPad keyboard or keyboard case that I've tried feels too small to type on comfortably.

Edit: I should also mention that the battery life on it is phenomenal.

u/crispychoc · 1 pointr/ipad

I use a third party (ESR) smart case and no screen protector. I really can't stand screen protectors on the iPad (I've tried!), although I do have one on the phone.

My iPad Air 2 lives in my bag "as is" with the case, and it's 1 year old, hasn't got a single scratch on it.

This is what I have for my Air 2 (read the reviews):

u/baubleclaw · 1 pointr/ipad

I got a cheap-ass case from Poetic on Amazon to start with.

Then I decided I needed the Smart Keyboard, so I have ordered one of these to go on the back and hold my pencil.

u/rockybbb · 2 pointsr/ipad

Personally I like using a pencil case holder that wraps around a case. Works fine with my iPad Pro.

u/neptuneskiff · 1 pointr/ipad

I have a matte screen protector from amazon
The first one they sent blocked Face ID but they sent a replacement quickly once the production problem was discovered.
I love the matte feel especially while using the pencil. But there is a hit to the display quality. I’ve seen a lot of advertising for “paperlike” on YouTube videos does anyone know if that brand has been able to minimize the affect on the display.

u/Aedesius · 3 pointsr/ipad

Seconded the screen protector. This is what I have and seems to be the favorite among this subreddit:

u/Dawkins20 · 1 pointr/ipad

I went with this on my first gen and I just bought them again for the second. They really help with the pencil. They give it a little bite so it's no so slippery.
iPad Pro (12.9") Screen Protector, Tech Armor Anti-Glare/Anti-Fingerprint Apple iPad Pro 12.9-inch Film Screen Protector [2-Pack]

u/sub30 · 1 pointr/ipad

I got the Tech Armor matte ( mostly because you got 2 for $10, and I fully expected to mess up (and, of course, is didn't). This is for the 12.9" but same difference. It's good... It's a lot granier than I remember but it feels good with the pencil.

u/territtuk · 2 pointsr/ipad

I brought this one for my Pro 10.5 .. its better made than the apple one i used on my air2.

u/kgyre · 8 pointsr/ipad

Consider the Pencil, and something like , if you're into writing by hand. Notes in iOS 11 is supposed to offer text search of handwritten notes.

And ignore anyone who says it's weird to take photos with it. This is the device you would look at those photos on later, so you're snapshotting exactly what you want to come back to later.

u/MercurialMohawk · 2 pointsr/ipad

The three angles provided by Apple's Smart Cover have always proven ample for me when using the iPad in landscape. You might also check out those foldable portable stands along the lines of this

(although that particular stand may not work w the Pro)

u/sudo_dionysius · 2 pointsr/ipad

I bought this case to carry everything in: iPad Pro with smart keyboard and khomo back cover, and I keep the pencil in the front zippered pocket along with earpods.

u/AWildDragon · 3 pointsr/ipad

I have this anker charger for my 10.5 pro. Here is a thread discussing some third party chargers.

u/accreddit · 2 pointsr/ipad

I got this case, which is compatible with the Smart Keyboard and has a pencil holder.

u/umakemesigh · 1 pointr/ipad

Anker Ultra Compact Slim Profile Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard with Rechargeable Battery

I have opted to go for this keyboard instead. Notable things

  • incredible value compared to Apple's Magic Keyboard 2
  • decent battery life and rechargeable with micro usb
  • easy pairing, but pairs with one device at a time
  • I think the size is very very similar to the magic keyboard 2
  • not at first, but after about a year of use, when using with my MacBook Pro, the connection every once in awhile will drop for couple of seconds. Not a deal breaker when writing documents, but can be annoying. With my iPad Pro the connection seems fine all the time.
  • the keyboard layout is optimized for iOS and macOS.
u/LeonardoDiRaprio · 2 pointsr/ipad

I believe that the device is capable of fast-charging. You'd need to get a charger that outputs 30W or 60W.

u/Le_Groundhog · 1 pointr/ipad

I got this one for my 11 pro

There's a very soft material inside of it. In addition, the pockets fit my charger and extra cables.

u/Rivellio · 2 pointsr/ipad

Just got this in the mail and I'm blown away! Looks and feels just like the silicone cover. I'm a detail freak and usually only buy Apple accessories but this cover is next level.

It cost $12,95 but I paid a lot for shipping to Europe. Still worth it in my opinion.

u/innershuh · 2 pointsr/ipad

Before I ended up going with the Logitech K380 and the JETech case cover, I was looking at the Dingrich backlit keyboard case. Not sure if that helps or not, but 80 reviews at 4.5 stars ain't so bad to me!

u/funkstick · 1 pointr/ipad

I'm really happy with this one:

Only downside is that it doesn't quite fold flat to the back and/or snap in there. But it has many viewing angles, more flexibility that the smart case alone, is very thin and has a semi-hard back but still exposes some of the bezel.

u/ItsOKIamADoctor · 3 pointsr/ipad

I have this one. Works fine, looks fine, and is super cheap.
If I am understanding your question, it covers the keyboard attaching bit when the cover is closed, but I suppose it does expose it when the cover is folded back.

u/chubbibunni00 · 2 pointsr/ipad

This is kind of random, but I kept misplacing the cap every time I would charge the pencil until I got this:
100% worth the 6 bucks for my sanity.

u/carrie4u · 1 pointr/ipad

You may please check the below link to verify the model of your ipad.

Below is the link to the case for Apple iPad Pro 9.7 Inch 2016 Release Tablet. (A1673/A1674/A1675 )

u/artaru · 1 pointr/ipad

Sure, it was this one. Do note that's for the bigger iPad pro.

u/zSHARPz · 0 pointsr/ipad

Oi so expensive:/

I’m thinking of getting ESR iPad 9.7 2018/2017 Case, Lightweight Smart Case Trifold Stand with Auto Sleep/Wake Function, Microfiber Lining, Hard Back Cover Compatible for The Apple iPad 9.7 iPad 5th / 6th Generation,Black

u/I_am_Bruce_Wayne · 3 pointsr/ipad

I believe it was this one.

I also had a glass cover on it. I bring it to the gym for various reasons. One of the major reasons I dropped it as well was that I had the front cover actually folded to the back, which caused it to be a bit more slippery.

u/sox3502us · 1 pointr/ipad

I got this one for the 10.5 -- assume they make one for the 9.7

It works well so far.

u/asparagustin · 1 pointr/ipad

I went for the Lumos for the pen holder and handy hole for storing the cap when charging

Poetic Lumos New iPad Pro 10.5 2017 TPU Case Cover With Ultra-Thin Impact Resistant Flexible Soft Transparent TPU Case for Apple iPad Pro 10.5 (2017 Released) Transparent Gray

u/filchermcurr · 1 pointr/ipad

I've been using this one with this back on it and it fits just fine. I stick the pencil in the front pocket (well... it's also in this because I have a 'buy all the cheapish things' problem). So far everything is hunky-dory.

u/jamie1124 · 0 pointsr/ipad

I have a little rubber “leash” that goes over the cap of the pencil and loops on it. It’s nice because I never have to worry about losing the lid and my pencil also doesn’t roll around.

EDIT it’s this thing but I don’t use the tip cover or the adapter leash

u/Reiserbc · 1 pointr/ipad

I ordered this to protect my iPad for the time being, at least until better accessories are made....I was hoping for a Smart Case from Apple, but they disappointed me.

Anker Bluetooth Ultra-Slim Keyboard for iPad Air 2 / Air, iPad Pro, iPad mini 4 / 3 / 2 / 1, iPad 4 / 3 / 2, Galaxy Tabs and Other Mobile Devices (White)

14 $

u/PammyLZ · 1 pointr/ipad

I bought this one yesterday, I'm waiting for it to be delivered today. So, I can't review it. However, it has 3,991 reviews that rate it at 4.3/5 stars. It is currently $16.99 w/prime.

u/trimbach · 2 pointsr/ipad

Not all stands are expensive. There are some on amazon for $8.

u/AlpineDad · 4 pointsr/ipad

I have not used it, but the Anker Bluetooth Keyboard is highly reviewed and very cheap. Plus it is made by Anker, a company that stands by their warranty.

u/ChiefAmmad21 · 1 pointr/ipad

Is it possible to use Bluetooth keyboards with the new iPad, like this one?
