I have at least a half dozen jQuery books...jQuery in Action is by far the best in my opinion. jQuery Enlightenment was quite good ... and I thought I read that Cody was giving it away for free.
Depends on what you want to do with jQuery. If you are simply interested in the toolkit as an extension of JavaScript, the JQuery Cookbook or jQuery in Action are both fine. If you want to know the finer aspects of jQueryUI and how to customize it, then you'll want a book that focuses on that. If, however, you are interested in writing plugins, then I would suggest adding JavaScript: The Good Parts to the list.
I purchased the book jQuery Mobile (http://www.amazon.com/jQuery-Mobile-Jon-Reid/dp/1449306683/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330733765&sr=8-1) and even though it was written/published while jQuery Mobile was still in beta, it's a very good book to get you up to speed. It's also only 130 pages so you can read the entire thing within 3 hours.
I highly recommend the book if you're looking to get started.
JQuery CookBook! Yummy!
You could check out my book. :-)
I found the jQuery Pocket Reference along with online docs and experimentation to be adequate.
