The main advantage of the Elite is that it has a touchscreen. Personally, I find the touchscreen less useful than using actual buttons. I mean, yeah, it's a nice feature, but when I pick up a remote I want buttons. I want to be able to use it almost without even looking at it. I don't want to surf through menus unless I have to.

The Smart Remote puts everything I need at my fingertips, and for anything else (like a feature on my TV that I almost never need, such as the SAP button), I'll use the Harmony App on my phone.

I own both the Elite and the Smart Remote (I used to own the Companion). These things seem to always be on sale, and you can find great deals on ebay too. Here's a Smart Remote with a Hub for $58. The Hub alone sells for $60, so that's a good deal (they all use the same hub).

I like the Smart Remote a lot. A LOT. It controls activities, not devices. What does that mean? It means you assign buttons to whatever you need for an activity, which probably includes multiple devices, and you can assign devices to multiple activities.. My "Watch TV" activity includes my TV, my receiver, my amp. My receiver and amp are assigned to all of my activities except one. The idea is, when you choose an activity, your remote is set up for whatever you need for that activity. You set it all up in the Harmony app (the app is a bit clunky for setup, but once you get the hang of it, you'll see that it's quite powerful).

The Elite is OK, but it's kind of clunky too. It feels kind of cheap. For the price, it should be metal and glass, not plastic. The back is round, not flat, so it wobbles like crazy if you try to press a button while it's laid down. The screen is OK, but we're so used to premium screens on our phones that the Elite's screen feels low quality by comparison, and the screen is slow to respond, though it's fine as a remote screen - you don't need lightning fast speeds on a remote screen, but for the money, the Elite doesn't feel like a premium product.

I've been looking for a K810/K811 replacement keyboard for a while and am hopful that with Logitech's release of the MX Keys full sized keyboard, that they create a compact "MX Anywhere Keys" keyboard to go with the MX line of mice which would be a more proper replacement for the K810/K811 keyboards. Out of desperation, and not without hesitation due it being huge, I ordered the full-sized MX Keys keyboards, and then the day after it shipped, I learned of a brand new offering by Satechi which is somewhere in between a compact and a full-size keyboard, so I just ordered that one now from amazon.com with coupon code "BACKLIT20" to save $16 bringing the total to $63.99. Also worth noting is that both the Satechi and Logitech MX Keys allow you to toggle the pairing between three bluetooth devices.

At this point I'm inclined to just return the logitech MX Keys immediately once it arrives just because it is huge and I don't really need the extras of a full-sized keyboard. The Satechi calls itself compact, but it's more of a compact full-size keyboard than a true compact... So stil a bit bigger than I'd like, but at least a step in the right direction...

In the meantime, I'm still waiting for a real compact replacement to match what I've enjoyed with the K810 which thus far has been the most perfect keyboard I've ever had.

If you are still in your return window for your 650, you may want to try out the Harmony Smart Control. It’s the cheapest way to get a Hub and it comes with the Smart remote which is actually pretty solid. I use it with my TCL 6 Series and Apple TV 4K.

Not much of a reason to get this other than the fact it lets you work with the mobile app because it has a Hub and you can link it an Amazon Echo or Google Home device.

I just got the Elite and don’t really love it. I came from the Universal remote mx-450 (https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Control-MX-450-Programmable-Editing/dp/B001HKLA60/ref=sr_1_50?crid=2LRLZBWQAIPVR&keywords=universal+remote&qid=1567390914&s=gateway&sprefix=Univ%2Caps%2C173&sr=8-50) which was the best remote I’ve ever had. It let me program everything exactly the way that I wanted and I could even map multiple devices to the remote at once without having to switch devices. It was just way more flexible. Unfortunately they don’t seem to have a newer model that can integrate with Alexa\Google Home or mobile apps like the Harmony does. If the company made a newer remote I would have bought it in a heartbeat over the Harmony Elite.

No, but Logitech makes (or made) a Harmony keyboard that integrates with that system:

I previously owned the Elite and now own the Companion. I have LG OLED TV, PS4 Pro, PS3, Nvidia Shield TV, Logitech Squeezebox Radio, and media PC (via FLIRC). (No receiver.) My main reasons for switching to Companion:

  • Companion is lighter
  • Elite required daily charging (in supplied cradle)
  • Harmony phone app obviates the need for touchscreen on remote (which I rarely used)

If you don't require the extra buttons for home automation (2 buttons for 'lights' and 2 for 'outlets'), you can get the cheaper Harmony Smart Control (which comes with the Harmony Hub) for $58 on Amazon US right now.

OK, I get that - there are a lot of options that, frankly, I don’t really understand what they do. I think I have a relatively older iteration of the remote. Essentially, what you need is the Hub and a remote. The Hub accepts all of the inputs from your harmony remote (or the app on your smart phone) and then sends that signal out to the corresponding device whether that be via an IR signal or a signal over Wi-Fi. They seem to have a number of kinda crazy remotes now with touch screens etc. but I think that’s kind of ridiculous and overkill. I’ve had the simplest version of the remote for years and never felt limited.

I’d just get this:

https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Harmony-Companion-Control-Entertainment/dp/B00N3RFC4G?keywords=Harmony&qid=1540667752&sr=8-2&ref=sr_1_2

If you’ve got a basic level of technical proficiency, the app makes it very easy to add all of your devices and then set up an activity. The main one I use right now is my “Watch Apple TV” activity which , with one click on the remote, turns on my Apple TV, turns on my TV, sets it to HDMI 4, turns on my receiver, sets the receiver to the right input, and then controls Apple TV for most things and volume on the receiver. You can then go in and customize the remote buttons to do things that aren’t the “default” setting, like the colored buttons on the remote I use to switch between stereo and surround inputs.

If you have Alexa, you can just tell Alexa, “Watch Apple TV,” which is also ridiculous but pretty cool.

2 main options-

Another harmony hub and a smartthings hub. You can then import the harmony activities using the smartthings hub. I recommend this if you have more on the second tv than just the tv.

Option 2- Broadlink RM Mini3. Much cheaper if you are just turning a second tv on and off. They also have an Alexa skill

I wanted to be as simple as possible, since I'm not the only one using the TV and it should be user-friendly for all.
I have the simple Logitech Harmony Smart Remote Control.
If someone else doesn't go to the YouTube app via pressing the YouTube activity button, I would like to came back to the old activity without thinking which activity is the current one.

I also like Harmony and it helps me a lot to use just one remote control for all my needs, but sometimes I think it should be more customizable.

Actually you can turn on the PS4 with the harmony hub. PDP PlayStation 4 Adapter for Logitech Harmony

I have it and it works great.

u/Bakefy · 1 pointr/logitechharmony

okay, there is a way.... you will need to put your harmony hub in a box that blocks IR signals. Hopefully your radio still travels through this box. Then get some IR blaster extender things
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JLTEJKM/ref=asc_df_B01JLTEJKM5255586 You will need one for each device you control with that hub... then you will need to use a cover of some kind to keep the IR signal from getting past direct contact. Just place the IR LED directly on the sensor for the TV, and other devices. If there is cross talk, use electrical tape on the LED.

I can only speak about the PS4. I have a Harmony Elite. I also had to buy this PDP adapter. LINK But it works flawlessly for turning the PS4 on and off.

u/WhySheHateMe · 3 pointsr/logitechharmony

Sony licensed an IR reciever made by PDP specifically for Harmony remotes to be able to control AND power on the PS4.

u/rocman9 · 1 pointr/logitechharmony

Yep, that's the same brand I have. Only way to fix it is to buy the new model: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D3QD59P?th=1

u/blzr409 · 1 pointr/logitechharmony

It was actually given to me, but it appears to be this one: ROOFULL 4K HDMI 2.0 Switch 3 in 1 Out HDMI Switch 4K 60Hz HDR Dolby Vision HDCP 2.2 3D 1080P Switcher with IR Remote, Compatible for PS4 Pro, UHD TV, Xbox One/360, Apple TV (3 Ports) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074Z6Z2NY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_j-MDCbH8H0010

u/togusas9 · 1 pointr/logitechharmony

The PDP adapter isn't the first such device. Logitech once made a Sony-licensed IR adapter for the PS3 that worked the same way the PDP gizmo does for the PS4. I had one when I owned a PS3, and it worked amazingly well.
Edit: Here's what it looked like.

u/VanREDDIT2019 · 1 pointr/logitechharmony

No it is a standalone remote according to the Harmony rep on the Q and A portion of Amazon.

u/SmallVillage · 1 pointr/logitechharmony

A wired IR emitter attaches to the back of the hub. You run it to inside the cabinet so any IR devices can see the signal. They call it a mini blaster.

u/jjennings089 · 1 pointr/logitechharmony

For the PS3 you might need either the hub or an additional device. I had to get one for the PS4. https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Harmony-PlayStation-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B00267S7XW

u/tonytroz · 1 pointr/logitechharmony

I'm able to turn my PS4 on with the PDP IR receiver. I just had to edit the startup command sequence to use the PS button on it.
