I was planning on making a post tomorrow about selecting our next reading, feel free to suggest it there. I was going to suggest Lenin's "Imperialism the Highest Stage of Capitalism" or "What is to be done?". Apart from these being very famous works of Marxism I'll explain why I think they're important to read in general and complimentary to TSAR tomorrow.

To be honest I'm not interested in making Kautsky's DoP the primary reading for this group. I created this group to help acquaint people with major works of Marxism so I'd like to continue down that path personally. Every work we're going to read in this group will doubtless reference tons of figures/ideas and I don't deny that it's potentially valuable to investigate the people/works refuted or referenced in the major works of Marxism, but I think if we start to investigate ancillary works referenced for everything we'll lose ourselves in doing an intense study of one debate instead of learning about numerous topics and points of view in Marxism. I'd like to keep our main discussions centered around the major figures of Marxism: Marx, Engels, Lenin, Trotsky, Luxemburg, Gramsci, Mao etc and other majorly influential/popular works as I'm pretty sure most people here haven't read a lot of the most important works of Marxism yet. Also, I really just don't want to get bogged down in the argument for reformism.

If we're going to read something by Kautsky I'd recommend a more popular/influental work of his like Foundations of Christianity, The Economic Doctrines of Marx, or The Class Struggle --something that has had more sticking power and hasn't been repeatedly refuted by other thinkers.

That being said: If you or someone else is interested in hosting a discussion of Kautsky's work I'm happy to accommodate you by posting the discussion date/time in the sidebar and will even contribute to the conversation if I can find time to read Kautsky's work in addition to the other things I'm reading. I was kind of hoping to have a "unit" on Lenin, reading one or two more of his works, before moving on to some other major Marxist figure (I was actually hoping to go back do some of the important works of Marx/Engels like Origin of Family, Private Property and the State, Grundrisse, The German Ideology etc.) This is just my view and if it's not interesting to the community as a whole I'm happy to at accommodate alternate discussions, even of things I'm not reading or haven't read, as long as a person is willing to host and there's a good amount of interest.

I guess we'll see what everyone thinks when I make a post about choosing the next work and reflecting on the setup of this community tomorrow.

Edit: I'll mention this in my post tomorrow, but all the people still reading TSAR should keep in mind that you can always go back to our two discussions and add new comments or questions. I'll certainly be checking them and since this subreddit is so new they'll be on the front page for a long time yet.
