Sometimes, initially, it was just because surface doubts (including self-doubt) got the best of me, and in those cases we often got back together again. Eventually, if deeper issues persisted, we broke up for good.

To be more in tune with myself in the way I described in my previous response, I think I first did a lot of research about women’s issues. I grew up with all brothers and by the time I reached menarche my stoic mom had already had a hysterectomy due to health issues. I love reading and learning, and when I was a teenager I read a book called The Body Project: An Intimate History of American Girls, which gave me a new historical perspective.

I did a lot of writing and reflecting, by journaling my thoughts and feelings. I paid attention to myself, just like you’re doing, and sought to understand myself more when I felt my emotions creep out of control. I didn’t necessarily try to stop them when they came up, but honor them for a moment, allow myself space to express whatever I was feeling, and let it pass through me. Then move forward with confidence and trust in myself.

In adulthood, I adopted practices like yoga and meditation. I continue to read and learn new things, being open to greater truth and understanding. I check in with myself often and regularly participate in professional therapy sessions.

Good luck on your incredible, feminine journey. After hating myself and my body in girlhood, I have learned to continually embrace my own femininity. It’s a process that never quite ends, I’m afraid.

Major props on adopting- I'm hoping to adopt someday, too. :)

It does suck that you guys are going through this so soon, but it's not the end of the world. You should make sure her teachers and school nurse know, as well.

Some reading on "precocious puberty" might also be helpful.

Also, a link to the stuffed animal thing I mentioned...

I was taking a vitex/DIM combo and it was very strong. It seemed to help normalize my period. I don’t take it anymore because it would cause me headaches sometimes. Now I take this one: DIM

The progesterone cream definitely lowers the severity of my cramps. Also, my body used to really struggle with starting the period. I would have a whole week of cramps. Now I only have one day of cramps. I take it from day 7-end of cycle. Here’s the one I take: Progesterone

Thanks for the recommendation!! I didn't realize there were so many options out there. I use a diva cup and unfortunately have very heavy periods (my heaviest days usually measure 80-100ml, the heaviest ever being 120ml!). I accept it, but I struggle to keep up with emptying my cup due to the nature of my work. So I end up leaking often and have used pads as backup, and end up with rashes from the trapped moisture/heat, not to mention all the ruined underwear and sheets and even leaks onto chairs/couches/etc.

I checked out 4period, but saw a review of someone breaking out from the heat/moisture. I'm looking at Hesla right now with all of its great reviews (https://www.amazon.com/Hesta-Menstrual-Sanitary-Protective-Underwear/dp/B01MS6KZOC/ref=pd_sim_193_4?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01MS6KZOC&pd_rd_r=TEXVH124A176PYPE7PA2&pd_rd_w=jLlVJ&pd_rd_wg=c69ts&psc=1&refRID=TEXVH124A176PYPE7PA2), but the price for the 3-pack in Amazon Canada is twice as much as the US (once the currency is converted!)
