I travel the US, a lot for work. I have gone through a few devices. This is the latest and works the best.

Key features:

  • wired nat. Works just like a normal router.

  • wireless bridge + nat. Let's you connect to wifi, Auth on the splash page and then still have everything connected.

  • built in openvpn client. Allows you to have everything behind it going over the VPN

My travel kit contains, this unit. A handful of cables USB & network, a chromecast.

When I get to my room, this comes out and gets setup. Prefer wired, otherwise I connect it to the wifi. Chromecast to the TV. Browse and surf like I'm at home.

I don't know use that exact loadout, but I have a similar Meraki kit that I carry with me for events that fits nicely in this thing:

No issue at airports, and can also be easily locked, shipped, and reused. If that particular one is too big (mine also packs cables, adapters, etc), Pelican has a bunch of other sizes. Just plan for leaving a few inches of foam between each device and the edge of the box, and in between each packed item.

Glad it's mostly working out. Consider looking into a vertical wall mount for at least that 48p switch.

If there’s no pin then it’s using an inside and outside contact with an insulator in between. Probably just plastic. Take a look at a universal laptop charger with interchangeable tips. You can get one on amazon for about 20$ and cannibalize that if you find the appropriate tip.

I’ve bought two of these and you’re pretty likely to find the end you need among them. 15 years ago I’d say run down to radio shack and find one but...here we are.

I have these lined up for MR18 deployment. Went with POE+ just so we can upgrade to the higher tier APs, if needed, in the future. Supports 802.3at and 802.3af.

I would certainly blow it out periodically. As everyone should do with equipment in a non filtered air environment.

No I meant an ms220-8P. Like this one Meraki Cloud Managed MS220 Series 8 Port Gigabit PoE Switch - 8x 1GbE Ports - MS220-8P https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FKV86U0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_r-OQCb5VFCTS4

Use a pair of Mikrotik WAP60G. They operate in the 60GHz spectrum and will provide Gigabit speed at that range. A pair is $164 on Amazon right now.

Bang for buck, these things are unbeatable. I've used them as temporary links backhaul links for events for over a year, became first choice over Ubiquiti.

I believe its the Killer WiFi card in the 15. We had the same issue with a 15 that we bought for a user in my company. After digging into it over the last few weeks it seems likely due to the wireless card. We just did a replacement today with this card and all the issues went away.
