it's not the same as live and in person, but there are a few ways you can get the feeling of what a nin concert was like. trent reznor was very open to nin shows being recorded, and thus we have a lot of great memories that can be viewed/listened/relived for us who were there, and also viewed for the first time by new nin fans.

there are a couple dvd releases of concerts that you can purchase - and all that could have been & beside you in time, PLUS an amazing fan-created dvd called another version of the truth: the gift. seriously, the effort and teamwork that went into that project was amazing. the people behind that project also helped put together a video (near the bottom of that page) of nin's live performance of the entire TDS album, sourced from many different people that were at that show, vtaping the whole thing. also amazing.

plus there's tons of fan-sourced videos of nin concerts floating around on youtube. i would recommend watching some of the 2006 summer amphitheatre shows, which had amazing (i keep saying that word, but i can't think of anything stronger) light and screen special effects. specifically, look up "closer", "only", and "non-entity". the beside you in time shows had amazing hi-tech effects as well.

I haven't really looked into it before. I was curious myself so I ended up finding this one on amazon.

Even if you don't read a book on him, Trent's story is an interesting one. He signed a really crappy record deal when when his first album released. Most people believe his second album, "Broken" reflected his anger towards his record label, and it's probably his most "raw" musical outputs (this is also where some people unfamiliar with NIN get the impression that it's "heavy metal" band).

Trent did a lot of drugs in the 90s and really poured his heart out during the albums "The Downward Spiral" and "The Fragile". Most people consider "TDS" to be most representative of his work, while "Fragile" is his magnum opus (an opinion I understand but I personally don't appeal to).

Trent went into rehab and came out with the album, "With Teeth", which was palatable to the mainstream audience. At the time the album was pretty polarizing for some fans as it seemed too "safe" and didn't have the experimental qualities Trent exhibited in his early work.

A few years later, NIN released "Year Zero" which was precluded by an extensive ARG. Some people chalked it up to be a really clever marketing ploy, but for myself and other fans it was an experience, and really showed that Trent was still passionate about his craft and willing to experiment.

I believe it was his remix album to "Year Zero" that finally freed him from his long standing contract with Interscope Records. For a while he dabbled in releasing albums for free online, and invited fans to remix his music.

NIN went on hiatus for a while. Trent focused on composing music for films (mostly with director David Fincher), and started a side project "How to Destroy Angles" with his wife. He resumed his work under the NIN banner and released "Hesitation Marks" not too long ago.

Sorry for the long post... I kinda don't know when to stop once I start writing. The thing that makes many NIN fans so captivated by Trent Reznor is that he's not afraid to make very personal music. He's a very self-aware guy that speaks his mind publicly about things he doesn't agree with. His songs often reflect a deep introspection mired with tragedy... a tragedy that was once very real for Trent.

So yeah, the music is engaging, the man behind the music is captivating... and I think that makes the music even more awesome for the fans. I know this sounds like a huge NIN circlejerk (and maybe it is), but I like to think these are the reasons why NIN fans are sold for life.

I have like 30 copies of the slip. I would say yes.

EDIT: Just FYI I bought I think 5 copies when it first came out (because it was limited and 250,000 seemed like such a small number at the time, but you can still easily find new copies still unsold, lol). then a few more when the price dropped. Then I bought like 20 used copies for 1 dollar to try and get a higher number. I already have the highest ever found (other than trent) (my user name is inaka_rob, japanese for country side, where I live). The last few thousand seemed to have been shipped to Japan. That is where I got my highest numbered one.

You can check out the records and add to it please

For those wondering, this is a remix by Trent for an industrial band called Machines of Loving Grace. He did 4 remixes for this song, "Burn Like Brilliant Trash" on this EP/single

You're one of today's lucky 10,000!

This waterfall is Öxarárfoss, located in a national park near the west coast of Iceland. I'm pretty sure David Carson took the picture. Check out his book Fotografiks if you haven't seen it before. It's loaded with the same type of (and some of the exact same) blurred-out art that is featured throughout the Fragile-era, as he was NIN's de facto art director at the time. It's also crazy cheap right now, compared to a handful of years back when I picked it up.

The bottom section of the Fragile is a seashell, to complete the picture for you. My copy of Fotografiks is back home right now but I'm pretty sure the source photo of the shell portion is in that book.

I have this frame and it fits perfectly and looks pretty nice to boot.

US was a single disk, while the UK/europe split it between two discs (with the art on one having a blue hue ), with the digipak having room for you to add the other disc.

It's been awhile, but I want to say they did the same thing for the Closer to God single? Thankfully it's something that didn't catch on (having to buy twice as much to get all the tracks). Although Further Down the Spiral did have a slightly different tracklist between the US and Europe, with the "v2" added to the European version.

Nothing other than the fact that it is being shipped from Japan.
https://www.amazon.co.jp/Actual-Events-Nine-Inch-Nails/dp/B071VZ8V46/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1495930899&sr=8-1&keywords=nine+inch+nails

If your phone/computer can't translate, it says:

The expected release date is June 16, 2017. Availability for
right now is in the reservation.
It can deliver to the United States .
This item is sold and shipped by Amazon.co.jp . You can use gift wrapping.

I did see another site from Japan that also states they will have it for sale on that date (can't find it though).

Given the fact that Japan has a huge market for CDs, although there's no guarantee, I think this is as official as it's gonna get unless nin.com puts out an official American version. I bought it and I'll see how it is.

I'm not home yet. But I went on my Amazon Order page to get a screenshot of it saying delivered. However, it turns out it has been delayed to October 1st. The original date of September 1st is wrong. Seems like nobody will have this just yet.

Anyway, now I'm curious what that package I got delivered contains. LOL

I've had the older version of this turn table for around 12 years now. Still works perfectly, no issues.

Moving around a lot lately, and living in apartments, I've gotten rid of all of my "nicer" gear and have been using this exact set up for a few months.

Unless you're distinctly trying to support your local record shop (which is good!) Amazon has it for $18.99.

u/whiznat · 3 pointsr/nin

Interestingly, it's not on the soundtrack. BTW, the music TR and AR did for the movie is the original score, not the soundtrack.

$600 is a very fair budget for a beginner. I'd recommend looking at local shops for set ups (plus they'll be knowledgeable in what they have and willing to help.) Craigslist is a goldmine as well.

If your looking all new for 600 bucks you can get this Tt:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002S1CJ2Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1504067334&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=at+lp120&dpPl=1&dpID=414jzHHWzpL&ref=plSrch

And these speakers:

My main advice is stay away from crosley turntables. They usually look neat and are priced right but they will destroy your albums.

This. This pisses me off to no end. I bought it at that $80 price because I assumed it was going to be a super limited edition thing sold exclusively through the NIN store or at NIN shows. It was marketed toward hardcore fans who have been waiting for The Fragile era repress on vinyl for ages. First, I get the thing and it's shoved in a shitty cardboard sleeve. Now it pops up on Walmart of all places? Walmart? For almost half the price?! I know Trent's played the "Capitalize on NIN" game since the inception of NIN, but he's been taking it to an entire new, annoying level lately. How is the NTAE Physical Component more limited than TF: Deviations? Trent, I love you, but no.

However, to the fans who don't have this yet and have been sitting on the decision..buy it from Walmart. The vinyl is the best sounding vinyl in my (quite big) collection.

While we're at it, as someone mentioned yesterday, NTAE Vinyl is going for $10 on Amazon and I snatched that up quick. No complaints about that, since it's not limited.
