Hi. I have a few things I'm trying to get rid of. If you're interested, I'd prefer to keep our communication to reddit. I haven't posted here before so forgive me if I'm slow. I haven't posted any of these items on CL or anywhere else (yet). Cash only please. I'm going to try to be straight up with you, so if you're interested in anything here, please be straight up with me. I'm open to negotiation, but I hope I am putting up reasonable prices. So don't lowball me like crazy.

Hopefully you are still checking your throwaway account. I talked with an officer at work and got some extra information that will hopefully answer your additional questions and provide better/clearer guidance on becoming a Naval officer.

The difference between Unrestricted and Restricted Line Officers is simply the community you join. Surface, Subsurface, Aviation, and Spec. War. are all Unrestricted, meaning you can command a vessel, squadron, or fleet. Communities such as Intelligence are Restricted. As a restricted officer, you can still become a Commanding Officer one day, but you wouldn't be in command of a vessel.

When you go to the recruiter, you typically get to list three choices for the designators you wish to go for. When deciding your eligibility, they will evaluate your test scores (Battery test) as well as your degree and previous work experience. If you are attempting to get a designator that you have no previous experience in, you should study prior to taking the battery tests. My officer friend recommended getting (a) guide book(s) from Amazon (example: Barron's Military Flight Aptitude Tests).

If you don't do well enough to get what you want, you can always come back in a month and retake the battery tests or you can make changes to which designators you wish to apply for.

I hope this helps answer a lot of your questions. If you have any more, you can reply again or PM me.

Good luck! :)

Accu Sharp 008 OD Texas Black Knife Sharpener
I use this.

"SO, if you only want a pretty decent edge to work with, then this product is, hands down, the best one to use to give you that decent edge. Just make sure you follow the instructions and only use very, very slight pressure, or you'll never get that decent edge. If what you want or need is a razor edge, or super razor edge, then this product will disappoint you. It all depends on what you want/need." - J. Williamson, Amazon Verified Purchaser

This entire region has a very rich history spanning 400+ years (no offense to the native population), from first landing to Jamestown through WW2 and today. If you can get over to Book Exchange in Ward's Corner, they have a shelf or two devoted to just local history. Selection varies based on what's been traded in or recently sold but there's always a couple interesting titles at least when I look.

That's where I found Conscripted City: Norfolk in World War II. Narrative-wise it was pretty dry but I really enjoyed the facts and references to present-day locations and it presented a vivid "slice of life" for Hampton Roads through the early- to mid-20th century .

Going to jump on the G-Shock bandwagon. Just got this one to replace my son's last G-shock that lasted 4 years. He is really tough on watches/plays a lot of contact sports/basic teen boy. My husband also wears them in tough environments and also gets a good 3-4 years out of each watch. We replace the watches vs replacing the batteries because once the seal is broken on the back the waterproof integrity is compromised.

If you have a friend in the military G-Shocks are on sale often at the NEX and even regular price there is great.

When it's warmer, I regularly ride my bike around at all times of day; it becomes my primary form of transportation. Honestly, I have encountered two super aggressive drivers (a UPS guy and someone who made it a point to run me off the road and laughed/yelled out the window at me), but I think the area overall is getting better about sharing the road and, generally speaking, assholes exist everywhere.

If you don't have bike lights, absolutely do not ride at night. Here's what I use. I've had them 2-3 years now and haven't had the batteries die yet.

I have had one bike 'stolen' (fair game, I didn't lock it up and wasn't too concerned about it, even though it technically was in a secure building). I also had someone try to steal my cruiser, but I'm guessing they got caught in the middle of it because some stuff was missing off the bike and my cable lock was only snipped about half way through; several other people's bikes were completely stolen or stripped that same night.

Just buy a damn good U-lock (something they're going to have to saw through and make lots of noise) and don't leave it somewhere outside for extended periods of time. If you have any accessories you care about to the point you wouldn't want to pay to replace them, then consider keeping them in a bag or keeping your bike inside indefinitely. Personally, I love my bike, so I keep it in my apartment when I'm not using it.

Also check out/join Social Cycling and Bike Norfolk on Facebook. The communities are very supportive and can probably provide experience-based answers to your questions.

The United States is in decay, and you are young. The 21st century is moving fast and eventually you will wonder why this country is the way it is. It's because of the mixture of nice people, loving people like your family, living in a hegemonic capitalistic hellscape, not mobilizing to put the check needed on our government.
