Thank you! The cloak was actually not that complicated but I just made sure to think it through from the beginning: looking at the source material, it appears to be basically a cone that fits well over the body and extends down to the knees. Doing the math, I calculated that a half circle of fabric folds up into a 60° cone which is just about perfect. I have seen other tutorials and costumes where they clearly did more than a half circle of fabric which makes it baggy, plus this tends to result in using less fabric for the full length needed to reach the knees.
It also helped that I got lucky with the materials: the outer navy blue fabric is quite light and thin and slippery, but the red base material inside is like a thick flannel material. It holds things together and even acts like a nice blanket.
And it turns out these are the perfect buttons to use. They're a nice 1" diameter and they work very well. I also used a seventh one and colored it brown for the pants button (colored with just some black and brown sharpie and rubbing alcohol to smudge it around).
All the rest is just paying lots of attention to the many details like button placement, the way it hangs, the collar, and other dimensions. It is my first time using a sewing machine to build a costume— luckily this one was relatively simple because it has no arms or any complicated patterns to follow. It was super fun though!
All of the comics are canon, but I think I know what you mean. The first 5 take place directly during the show (4 about the main gang, and 1 about the woodsman's daughter), so they are the most canon I suppose. Those 5 are now in an actual book, which I really recommend, it's very nicely put together. The on-going series (Greg's dreams, Wirt's dreams, the Woodsman's daughter, and occasionally Langtree's school) can be found at about half of most comic book stores, I've been to around 7 or so shops lately, and had luck at 3 of them.
I own all of these and really love all of them
soundtrack on vinyl -a beautiful mastering to just sit and chill to
The "For Sara" Cassette Tape -complete with clarinet and Elisha Wood poetry
The Art book -a really cool and in depth look into what went in to making the series
The comic series -been a while since I read through it, but I remember it being pretty good and gives more character to some of the side characters in the show.

There are also plenty of other things out there like keychains, stickers and plushes, but I'm not much into collecting that stuff.

A good place to start is with this book, which contains both the special and the 4 part series. These particular comics are most connected to the show, because the first four take place between certain episodes. The fifth and final comic in this book sheds some light on the Woodsman and his daughter. These were all written by Pat.
There is also the current on-going series, which takes place after the show and follows a whole new story. The 13th issue comes out on Wednesday. If you want to catch up, your best bet is probably going to be with digital copies. For future physical copies, you can find them at a local comic book store.
Yup! There are two different series, and I believe you can buy them both as ebooks:
A limited run written by Pat McHale, which fills in the gaps in the canon series with new stories. Issue #1 is an adventure taking place directly before Tales of the Dark Lantern is set. Issue #2 is set right before Mad Love, and is a comprehensive look at Fred's backstory and his relationship with the Highwayman, as told by Fred to Beatrice/Wirt/Greg. Issue #3 is another adventure in which we see a bit more of Beatrice's perspective and guilty conscience. Issue #4 is Anna's backstory.
The second series is ongoing (you can buy a subscription as well as the previous issues on Comixology). Half the adventures take place post-canon as Greg (and later Wirt) wind up in the Unknown when they're asleep. The other half of the adventures are Anna's life at home on her own, meeting the ghost of her mother among other things.
There are also a few issues in there so far illustrated by George Mager, which are tales of Langtree's classroom written picture-book-style.
You should give her book a try. I got it when it came out, and it's just more of that, and probably better. It's something like 5/6 short stories, beautifully drawn and creepy as hell. Highly recommended!

I feel like open discussion of piracy tends to not be a great thing.
If there were no legitimate ways to watch the show or if those ways were prohibitively expensive then I think it could be more lenient, but you can buy the entire show for $7 on Amazon instantly so it's a little hard to justify piracy IMO.
I think prohibiting unofficial download links is a good idea. Most people already know where to go to find it illegitimately anyway.

Sorry. I doubt it's free anywhere legally.
Then what's [this] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/0606390022/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_oTbIxbM4SDDAJ)? Haha
Edit: Why am I getting downvoted? By no means did I mean this to sound condescending! I'm sorry if it sounded that way. I'm just expressing why I'm confused about the contents of these two books! I was just genuinely curious if /u/bryceland23 knew anything about the book I mentioned above!

There's also this, this I ordered a while back. Still hasn't shipped, and it says it came out a month ago. It will probably be cancelled.

The ongoing series is set after the show.
You missed the 2017 Special, which is set during the show.
Tome of the Unknown collects Issue 1 of 4, Issue 2 of 4, Issue 3 of 4, Issue 4 of 4, and the 2014 special.
