Hi! Congratulations and welcome to the Watch!

You might be wondering right now about what to do next while waiting for the 6th book to come out, so here are some suggestions.

GRRM already published some sample chapters from TWOW over the years. Here's some information about them and links to most chapters.

There are additional novellas that take place in this world. The Dunk & Egg stories take place about 100 years before the main series and are about a hedge knight and his companion. The Princess and the Queen and The Rogue Prince are historical retellings of the Dance of the Dragons event. They're somewhat drier reads than D&E because they're from the POV of a Maester chronicling these events but I really liked them personally.

My favorites, on the other hand, are the amazing analyses and essays being written about these characters and their stories:

  • This 5 parter is about Dany's arc in ADWD, about how she's actually a really good and successful diplomat and ruler and about how her character is changing by the end of the book.

  • A Dragon Dawn: A Complete Analysis of the Upcoming Battle of Fire is a comprehensive dissection of the various factions and subfactions converging in Meereen by the end of ADWD and a prediction about how the battle will go down in TWOW. These two essays about Meereen completely changed my perspective on the last book, on Dany and generally about how insanely complex this plotline really is. Made me respect Martin even more.

  • Blood of the Conqueror is currently being written by the same author as the previous one I mentioned and it's about Aegon's invasion. I saw you didn't like the Jon Connington arc, so I suggest you give this a read (especially parts 2 and 3), it might shed some light on how much it really fits the narrative and it's not that out of place.

There are many, many more of these if you liked them. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. Have fun!

Yeah, I can agree on some. I own this series as well https://www.amazon.co.uk/Song-Ice-Fire-Volumes/dp/0007477155 and it has a sleek look that doesn't look too bland like some other versions, like the ones sold in most bookstores, which are all black with just a symbol on them and a big sticker slapped on them saying "THE ORIGINAL TO THE SUCCESSFUL HBO SERIES GAME OF THRONES"...just ruins the look.

One of my favourite books on the classical era. The show Rome was good but like ASOIAF the literature is better.

All the Chapters (The Canadian version of Barnes and Noble) locations had it out of stock in store and online so i just ordered it off Amazon. Have you seen the illustrated edition for A Clash of Kings, which is coming out this November? It looks amazing. I can't wait to get both. https://www.amazon.ca/Clash-Kings-Illustrated-George-Martin/dp/1984821156/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=a+clash+of+kings&qid=1558909557&s=gateway&sr=8-2

They are from the official Lands of Ice and Fire map book, which you can buy on amazon https://www.amazon.com/Lands-Ice-Fire-Game-Thrones/dp/0345538544

I have this map pack and it's fantastic. I have a few of them framed up on the walls, I highly recommend buying them!

But you can just copy them; I'm sure the original artist wouldn't mind the loss of income!

AFAIK, this map is from the media of which we do not speak, as evidenced by the eastern portion which isn’t canon since the release of the TLOIAF maps. The Lands of Ice and Fire is what you’re looking for if you want beautiful and accurate maps.

Here’s a reddit post of the HQ world map from TLOIAF.

Oh boy, do I have good news for you!

Joe has been working on the new trilogy for the past few years. His goal was to finish a rough draft of the entire trilogy before publishing the first book, so he could double back and change things in the first book to suitably foreshadow events of the final two, or suitably retcon anything that he needed to change to allow for future developments.

The new series is called The Age of Madness, and it takes place some few decades after Red Country, during an Industrial Revolution taking place in Adua. The first book is finished and set for publication in September 2019. The second and third books of the trilogy are expected to be published in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

There's a lot more info on his blog on his website—He posts quarterly updates regarding his writing progress.

Just get this. They're cheap and you'll tear through the books without caring what they look like. They're fine to read. When the series is over, buy a box set.

Like an actual physical copy, you mean? If so, then here.

u/LuminariesAdmin · 1 pointr/pureasoiaf

Agreed. And it seems like the one of The Mystery Knight is now available.

I have the leatherbound paperbacks and really like them. The leather covers make it easy to take with me without worrying about them getting damaged, plus the whole set is only a little more than $50 on amazon and I've seen them in bookstores for as low as $35. The only drawback with the paperback set is the small print, so if you have trouble with that then definitely go for the hardcovers.

u/warenhaus · 1 pointr/pureasoiaf

they are available collected in a single book in other languages already, German for instance: http://www.amazon.de/Der-Heckenritter-von-Westeros-Urteil/dp/3764531223 and in some other language (spanish? portuguese?) I can't remember now.

u/felixofGodsgrace · 3 pointsr/pureasoiaf

That price seems a bit high even for Australia but it might be the illustrated editions coming out here.

u/bfraid · 4 pointsr/pureasoiaf

Thanks, I'm looking. Problem is, that the cheap versions are some HBO edition crap with pictures from the show on the cover.
