Your best bet is to get a code reader, if you don't already have one. Here is a cheap one on Amazon. Failing that, your nearest VIP or other auto shop will usually read the code for you for free.

Once you know the diagnostic code it's throwing, you'll have a better idea what happened.

I'm leaning toward it not being a frozen anything; if something froze in the injectors, you have a lot of water in your gas, which would cause problems even when it's not cold out.

Very often rough idle is caused by MAF and O2 sensors. You also might be having issues in the ignition system, so check your plugs, wires, and distributor.

Good luck, and please come back to post more question, or if you found the solution, post that.

I have a 96 ext cab 4.3v6 Auto that came with the two piece and double cardan. I was experiencing horrible noise and vibration and ended up replacing the carrier bearing and the double cardan half of the shaft with this unit from Amazon.

I've had it in there for over a year on a truck that's lowered 4" all around(pinion angle corrected). It's been on a few road trips totaling over a 1,000 miles and has seen plenty of runs up to the speed governor(95mph), sometimes holding 90mph+ for many miles.

My personal experience with it has been really great. I have no basis to a good stock unit but it was a dramatic improvement over the one I had in it. Vibrations and noise virtually zero and there seemed to be a difference in throttle response as well.

This was a direct bolt in and go. I changed it out over a couple hours in the driveway with some help.

If this place still insists on that price I would suggest replacing it yourself either with the unit I linked or a stock replacement.

I have owned 3 2.2s. They tend to run cold because they don't produce a ton of heat like larger displacement engines. If it's cold out it runs cold. If it is hot out and the mechanical fan is stuck on it runs normal temps. Also the dash gauge is not as accurate as the ECU temp readouts.

My guess is that you live in a cold environment and your mechanical thermostat is broken or old enough that it doesn't work right.

I currently have a built 2.2 turbo. When it is cold out, the gauge will read 150-185 when it is 30 or lower to 60 degrees. That is cruising on the highway at 50-70. Now I also use HPtuners to tune. I monitor my temps. Typically the loop from the heater core to the block will be within 180 to 195 where it is supposed to be.

My recommendations.

  1. Buy the torque application for your phone. (7 dollars?) Then buy the 10 dollar amazon bluetooth obd2 port adapter. Monitor the temps the ecu can see. If the temperatures are from 180F to 199F your engine is running within range
[obd2 to bluetooth adapter] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N2K6M2A/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=1944687642&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0051CAE1C&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0T816CFEDTS905VMXVPW) - I own this one. It works.

  2. Consider swapping the mechanical fan out for an electrical fan and temperature sensor relay. I have done this to every s10 I have owned. You gain 5-10hp (no joke). Better gas mileage and you can ensure your engine is running at the correct temps.

  3. Temporary fix for winter. Take a cardboard box. Measure half the radiator size. Cut the cardboard box to half the radiator size. Then block off half the radiator. This will drastically help your temps. If you have a a/c, put the cutout cardboard in front of the ac condenser.

This is the 1 pin. It is for the gauge, and does not need to be changed. It's on the cylinder head

https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-213-70-Original-Equipment-Temperature/dp/B000C9GRDI

This is the 2 pin, it's on the intake manifold near the thermostat, and this tell your ECM the temperature

Of course you don't need the AC Delco brand parts, but it's the numbers i got from the factory parts diagrams from YOUR SPECIFIC TRUCK just to be absolutely sure.

This. I recommend deleting this component and replace it with a posi-lok cable. Plug the vacuum line with a bolt. Then order and install 4x4 Posi-Lok PSL500 Axle Disconnect. https://www.amazon.com/4x4-Posi-Lok-PSL500-Axle-Disconnect/dp/B004TOLFMU Here's mine installed. It will work for all s10s. https://i.imgur.com/L0m7eQu.jpg

Well that stupid bulb is an expensive fuck for how delicate it is. I tried a cheaper ($40) one and it didn't work once, it tried to actuate and the plate that's supposed to do the pulling just went C-shaped. The decent ones cost about $80, but I haven't tried any of them. There's a kit to convert it to a pull-cable setup where you push the button to get the t-case to select gear, and then pullcable engage the diff yourself. Or you can get one of these guys and rig it up yourself somehow.

I'm not entirely up to speed on how the whole system works but the bulb is a common point of failure, or the switch that sits on the t-case itself. Which is this guy. If that fails, it'll suck ATF into the vacuum system that controls the front diff engagement, which can tear up the bulb.

Here's a good post that has some more info on the 4WD system, and also a possible mystery vacuum hose you may or may not have loose.
