Just to add the the good advice here, we found that a slow eating bowl worked quite well after advice from our Vet.

Also with the broth idea, remember that lots of broths have a high sodium count so we made our own big batch in the slow cooker and then froze it into ice-cube trays. So when we wanted a small amount of broth we placed the frozen cube in a jug and covered in boiling water . After a minute, fresh broth at a safe temperature to eat.

Hopefully just a phase though. Good luck.

My mini is calm now but he gets excited with his favorite activities. He will ALWAYS pull with a traditional leash set up. We got the no pull that latches at his chest and he doesn't pull. That being said, if we are at the dog park, he is just too excited to get there. No amount of commands will settle him. He wants to see his friends. That way if he pulls he doesn't choke and gag himself. (But he will fall down)

We love this harness since it snaps around his neck instead of pulling his head through and super easy to adjust. It runs big. A small fit great on our 21lb mini.

That's the one we ended up using. Bought ones from PetSmart around the same price but they were definitely not as nice quality as these. First few times actually they would fall off, but I think it was due to him learning how to walk with them properly. Now they stay on without issue and he trots around with them happy as a clam

Yep, I had to get a shock collar for mine because she would wake up the entire neighborhood. Mine was too strong though and she would jump when it shocked her and it broke my heart, so I got her a spray collar instead that just sprayed annoying citronella and made her stop.

Both definitely made her learn pretty fast, and even just holding the collar up like I was going to put it on her would immediately make her stop barking. Only issues with the spray collar, was when she was barking at other dogs, she would spray them in the face too haha

I think you may be right about the associations. Fergus doesn't mind getting in the car cause I take him to work 2-3 times a week, to the park for long walks at least 3 times a week and doggy daycare on Friday. That way outweighs the Groomers & Vets visits and he loves those places.

Maybe some trips to the park and sweeten the deal with some treats on the ride over and she'll start to look at it more favorably.

I also bought him this car seat which lets him stand up on the window and look out the front. Sometimes dogs get antsy cause they know they are moving and can't see.

Thank you so much! I love the picture! Just texted that to my Dad. Is this the same one you have?

It's a dog booster car seat from Petco. There's all kinds of fancy ones lined with fur and all that. Here's a pretty basic one. I like mine because it has another clip that you tie to the dog's collar so he doesn't jump out of it.

Amazon also has a bunch if you just look up "Dog Booster Car Seat."

Both my Schnauzer and Havanese would pull so hard that I would dread walk time. For small dogs they can make a walk a chore. The Havanese would pull so hard she would end up choking herself.

I bought this harness for both of them. It caused a dramatic change in their walking behavior. All I did is put it on them and they behaved like well trained dogs. I did no training with the harness, the dogs just knew to behave better.

The one I bought is noted below. I am not promoting this particular brand. I am just pointing out that it is the one I use. Good luck.

Agree completely. We still let Walter bark once or twice to alert us to stuff but he started doing it in the middle of the night which we couldn’t allow hence the collar. A single bark with it on overnight and he never barked unduly overnight again. In case you didn’t see my edit above, it’s this one!

I bought it off of Amazon years ago. The hood is removable and it seems like the orange one is unavailable now. But there are several color options!

My girlfriend got it for me -- I forgot where she got it from though. I lost it a few weeks ago :(

You can get this one from Amazon though (kinda expensive!):

We used a backpack with harness like straps on our schnauzer, that attached to the leash mid-back. It gave her two very bad rubbed spots that leaked lymphatic fluid right on her chest where it rested on her skeleton from pulling. They took weeks to heal completely. So that is something to watch out for.

This is the walking harness we used that gave us no problems: https://www.amazon.com/Blueberry-Pet-Reflective-Multi-colored-Harnesses/dp/B01M2UN9D8/

The real solution was teaching her to heel and not pull, so now we just have a leach attached to the collar.
